Good mouseguns in .32 or .380?

[Ossi>>Get the Seecamp .32 The "one ammo" issue does not apply to current production, and really is overblown for existing produciton. Buy a few boxes of Silvertips, your good to go. Sights? Weld a BB on the front like some have done, but it's a point and shoot pistol, for the emergency situation for which it was designed. The rash of current knockoffs to the Seecamp only serve to reinforce the genius of the original (a .25 ACP. BTW) which I have carried for over 15 years. I own three, and they are with me 99% of the time vs. 60-70% for a larger gun. It is *invisible* on one's person. And that is the Primal Rule for firepower--"The gun you have with you is the better than any caliber at home."

Ossi Quote: I am aware of Seecamp in .32, but don't want a gun that only works with one brand of ammo. Also, maybe I am too conservative but I think any gun should have sights.

Love my spit wad (P-32 for the uninitiated) Fantastic carry piece. I helped my daughter move from one two story to another. Had it on, didn't bother me a bit. Best carry piece ever! Try that with a ____ !

I purchased a Kel-Tec P11, but haven't shot it yet. If all goes well, I may have to seriously consider the P32.

The one suggestion I would add is the S&W 342ti. It's the titanium J-frame with the centennial hammer. 5 rounds of .38 special (they also make a 6 shot .32), and weighs about 10 ounces (I think). Goes right in the front pocket, in a hidden IWB or an ankle holster. At about 500 bucks, it's not cheap, though.

Yesterday (6-29-00) the local shooting guru and I went for an afternoon shoot. The guru, Johnny W., is around 45-50 years old and has a rack full of combat/bullseye trophies that takes up a whole wall in his den, top to bottom. He does all the qualifying for the county/city police depts, and has been giving concealed carry classes for years. He brought a couple of 45s, and I brought my Glock, my big 44, and my Kel-Tec P-32.

We ended up shooting the P-32 last. He had never seen one before, and was quite skeptical about its performance. While I was loading it, he was going on with all this stuff like "it'll jam - all these little guns jam up pretty regular after one or two clips." He also said "these little buggers are only good for about three yards, after that the bullets fly all wild. The barrles aren't long enough for any accuracy." My favorite was "I've shot a Seecamp in 32, and they'll smack ya pretty good."

Anyhow, I had 100 rounds of Fiocchi 73gr FMJ and one mag. We started at 7 yards. He said "that might be too far". I cranked off 7 shots, and they put a group in the cranio-ocular section of an NRA shilouette that you could cover with your fist. He started in with this "gee whiz" stuff, and I just smiled. I stoked another clip and let him have a go at it. He shot twice, and said "boy, this thing shoots pretty soft. The ammo must be mild." Then I told him that the ammo we were using was one of the hottest 32s available.

That's when he started to warm up to the ol' girl! His first two shots had cloverleafed in the head section where the left eye would be. He then let loose with three more of the little spitwads, and they punched a quarter sized group in the center-of mass section, again slightly to the left. The last two went to the head again, and brought the two cloverleafed shots into another quarter-sixed group. He looked at the little gun and had a look of disbelief on his face. Then he grinned and said "care if I run a couple of more mags through it?"

We had an absolute BLAST with the little P-32! After a couple more mags at 7 yards, he backed up to 15 yards and started shooting rapid fire and offhand, something I'd never try. He's one hell of a shot - he can shoot circles around me, and in his hands that little Pocket Weasel was not only keeping them center-of-mass, but was hitting the scoring zone more often than not. The more he shot, the more he grinned about how "neat" the P-32 was. Then he backed up to 25 yards. I thought he was nuts! He managed to shoot a 7 shot, 8" group that stayed on the shilouette, although somewhat low, in the stomach section.

Needless to say, he was pretty much taken aback by the little gun's performance. It never jammed, even when we shot it one handed, rapid fire. He burned up a box-and-a-half of ammo himself, trying stuff like shooting while backing up and shooting while moving sideways, drawing from a pocket, and "empty the gun" drills at close range. I think he's going to go get one for himself this weekend.

Siggy,

How do you prepare possum, to get it to taste good?

When I was a kid, we ate almost everything I killed, but possum was awful!

We even tried boiling the fat out, and baking them with potatos, and onions. Almost turned vegetarian over those damn things. :)

I once put 4 of 6 rounds standing weaver, single action, into a gallon milk jug at circa 100 yards out of a 2" 22/32 kit gun. I hit with the first shot at was still laughing which made me miss the second. It would be interesting to ransom rest several kit guns and see what happened with different ammo.

Ayoob once did a hundred yard test with some snub revolvers and with randomly chosen ammo got hits in the torso with all the guns. I believe he may have gotten 6 of 6 with the Detective Special.

I would not be surprised to see virtually any Colt or Smith 2" stay on a nine inch paper plate at 50 yards by the time you'd tried 8 or 10 kinds of ammo.

Yeah, the average tight Colt or Smith revolver will shoot tighter than the average Colt or Smith pistol. Generally. 2" 38 snubs aren't mouseguns, but a S&W 32 j frame or 22/32 kit gun is.

I'm not claiming to be Billy Dixon. But don't get sarcastic about mouseguns at 25 yards Meiji. Not til you count the potential cost of a miss at that distance killing or crippling an innocent bystander for life.
( OOPS - Sorry Ossie, just reread your situation. The below does still apply to the folks in the USA, though ). Oh, BTW, why do you count the Colt Ponies and Mustangs out just because they've been recently discontinued? I just bought a spare for my carry gun that is apparently LNIB and unfired and it hasn't been imported since the GCA of '68.

Actually I carry a mousegun (Tomcat .32 and I shoot once a month, 50 rounds, at a NRA 50yard Slow fire target, at 15 yards. I'm very happy if at the end I can count 40+ holes in it and 25 or more are in the black. I've always said to my self, "That's not bad with a Double-action and a 2" or so barrel." But now someone has taken my excuse away and I have to go back out to the range and practice more. That was the reason for the sarcasm not the guns or the results. I appologize if I hath offended thee.

Now what you said originally makes more sense. Not a problem.

Just that I used to be really into this 20 or 30 years ago, then took time out to get married and raise kid with guns and pistolcraft on back burner. Some pretty smart guys came up with pretty smart answers back in the revolver days that seem to be treated as archaic now, but still seem true from my older generation point of view.

To boot, a hundred miles south of where I live bout 98% of the scenery outside the towns of Tonopah and Goldfield still looks just about like it did when Wyatt Earp ran bars and sold his other talents.

One day I take a leisurely desert hike with an SAA 45 Colt on my hip, the next week I run into road rage halfway to Reno without a gun in the car.

I like my Colt 1903 in .32 cal and my Colt pocketlite Govt model in .380 cal. I also have a Daewoo .380 which is very reliable and accurate. Have to admit the Kahr is a neat little package as is the P32, but then Keltec makes a very small 9mm and .40 which are easy to carry.

Cast another vote for the Kel-Tec P-32 mine is 100% reliable with anthing that will fit and chamber. I love the chromed slide little mini Glock, well thats what I call it.

I also own several Beretta .22s/25s, AMT Backup and a Colt Mustang .380 but it is much larger and heaver than my beloved go anywhere, anytime, Kel-Tec P-32. I carry mine constantly and it has been very reliable and worry free. I highly reccommend them and get the chrome slide for rust resistance.

Ossi, as some on this board know, I had trouble with my P32. The hammer froze up and wouldn't fall. I had it sent back to Kel-Tec,
they kept it for three weeks,at the end of this period I received a new P32 with the same serial number as the old one.

I took P32 to the range two days ago and it was flawless. It is very accurate for its type of pistol. It makes me wonder what it would be like with descent sights.

The bonus was I returned the pistol without a magazine and the new pistol came with one. I now have three magazines. I am pleased with the pistol and admire Kel-Tec's customer service.

Regards,

Richard.

Richard, nice to hear your problem with P32 has been solved. I have asked availability of P32 here, about impossible to get one thru any Finnish dealer within 6 months. Anyhow, at least a dealer in Switzerland (www.gunfactory.com) has them in stock. I have priviously ordered SIG accessories from them and the service was first class, so I'll probably order a P32 from them.
