Good Lever Action 30 30

I have my grandfather's 336 he picked up the first year they were called that. Still works perfectly and shoots even better. The deer can't tell any difference between a shot out of a 70 year old 30-30 or my 3 year old .308.
 
i got to say im a winchester 94 nut, ive loved that gun since i first saw it, everything about it, over the years ive never had a problem with it, i am at odds over which one is better with my wierd hunting buds who own the 336's but hey nobodys perfect. but we have never had any major problems with either model they are both good guns, i understand the 336 is easyer to disassemble but you cant go wrong with either model
 
Can't go wrong with a Marlin 336. My father's 336 has never failed, and my old Marlin 30-30 is around 50 years old, still my go to short range rifle.
 
I have a Rossi Ranch Hand in 45 Colt. It's a little stiff but should work itself out. My other levers are:

94AE Winchester 30-30
336 Marlin 30-30
Henry BigBoy 45 Colt
Henry Goldenboy .22

Needless to say, I love a good lever action gun :p
 
Havent tried the rio grande, but I shot a buddy's circuit judge in .45lc/.410 and now I want one just because of the cool factor of a revolver rifle :cool:
 
I just bought the Rossi 92 big loop in .357. 16 inch great rifle. Really accurate little rifle. Always wanted a John Wayne style rifle. It is not as nice as a $1000 Winchester but shoots strait and feeds perfect. Holds a nice 4 inch group at a 100 yards with the LEVERevolution ammo. I would use this to hunt here in Missouri. I am thinking about getting the 30-30 too just for hunting.
 
My wife recently got a 336C. It is a new rifle, made under the Remington-owned Marlin name.

Despite the reputation of "Remlin", this gun shoots very well. It cycles without a problem, no matter how slow or fast the lever is worked. The walnut stock is not as finely finished as my Weatherby, but hey... It's still a nice walnut stock.
 
Marlin 336

I have had great experiences with Marlin, they make accurate and affordable guns. I actually prefer the Marlin 336 over the Winchester's because you can mount a scope on top of the receiver rather than the side. They are very good looking and accurate guns with a smooth action. I recommend the 336.
 
Has anyone shot the Henry 30-30? Thats one I was looking at but the price tag is real high.I have the BB .44mag and love it.
 
Hey those old Marlin 30-30's still do the trick.
The one we have is a 1958 model 336C with Ballard Rifling.
I have used a new one ( 2012 version) I would buy another 1958 over a new one though. The trigger on the 1958 is silky smooth.

I have both and the Marlin has a way nicer trigger. Lighter, smoother and less take-up. Now the Marlin has a lot more miles on it but it sill is much nicer trigger.
Off Topic, is there a data base where I can see how old my Marlin is? I'm thinking late 60's to early 70's.
Google is my friend! My 336r-c was made in 1967
My Mod 94 was made in 1979.

Back to the Glenfield 30A

I bought an old, beat up Glenfield 30A for $30. The rifle is in pretty rough shape with a few missing screws, trigger and sear, and the mag tube is damaged beyond repair. I purchased a new mag tube but it is designed for the Marlin 336. What I didn't realize was that the front band on the 336 is behind the front sight and the front band on the 30A is forward of it. Because the bottom of the barrel is machined to accept the front band screw forward of the front sight the 336 mag tube will not work. The 336 mag tube is machined to accept the band screw behind the front sight. I cannot find the correct mag tube. I've looked at Brownell's, MidwayUSA, Numrich, Gunbroker, Natchez, etc. Does anyone know where I can find a full length mag tube for the Glenfield Model 30A? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I just bought a really nice 1975 Glenfield 30A. My first levergun. I always choose an older gun over the same thing in new production. We've had Marlin rifles in my family forever. The tradition continues.
 
My Marlin 336 was made in 1969 I bought It 2nd hand and It's seen some hard use. On the range It will shoot 2" groups at 200yds. with Hornady 160gr leverrevolution ammo. I have a Vortex Viper 2-7x32 bdc scope on It. The action is very smooth with a nice 3lb. trigger. I paid $200.00 for It about 3 years ago. I don't shoot It as much as I'd like, I have some bolt action rifle's that I use with more range. When I do take It deer hunting I don't feel underguned. Like others have posted Leverevolution 30-30 160gr. FTX ammo is great ammo.

I've had a Marlin 336C .30-.30 since I bought it new in 1994. It has been on many, many deer hunts since. They are a darn good lever action. No worries.

The "Ford vs Chev" debate of 30-30's has been around longer than I have and will rage on long after I'm gone. Here's what I know. I have four 94's in 30-30 and one 94-22 for good measure. Ranging from older than grandpa to a 100th anaversery. None has ever failed to do it's job on my watch. The one marlin 30-30 I "had" stripped brass from cases like a die grinder. Truth is it was probably the one bad one they made that year. Last year. Every older marlins I've owned I still own because they're excellent. My .02.

Edit...can't believe I forgot my favorite. My 94"saddle ring" in .44 mag. ;)
