Good CCW

hi i am looking to buy my first CCW and was just wondering what everyone thought i am very open minded on manufacture's and such and money isn't to big of an issue but i do want it to be in .45 or 10mm

For CCW, the .45 Colt Defender is a good, basic start. Maybe a Lightweight Commander if you can handle something a little bigger for CCW.

Well, for 10mm CCW I personally would narrow it down to 2 choices, based on how much money I wanted to spend.

Glock 29, because you won't find a lighter gun in 10mm and the barrel is longer than most other guns without the gun being longer or heavier:

DW CBOB, because it's absolutely beautiful, I've never seen a negative review from an actual shooter, it's "reasonably" small, at least enough to hide if you try and I can't personally see a need to spend any more $$:

Now, in 45acp you have more options than I care to count, although both of the above would qualify in that caliber as well.

The "best" gun is the one YOU like, not anyone else. It will be a compromise of:

1. Fit - It should fit in your hand like you were born with it there.
2. Reliability - It should go BANG about 99.8% of the time you pull the trigger.
3. Accuracy - In YOUR hand. It's how well YOU shoot it.
4. Concealability - It should be comfortable enough to wear and easy enough to conceal so you won't leave it laying on the dresser at home.
5. Cost - You don't want to scrimp on your "life protector" weapon, but you probably don't need a $2,000 Kimber, either.

I like the Glock 21, Springfield XD, and S&W M&P. All can be had in 45ACP. All are very good machines. If one of them fits you well, it could be a long and happy friendship.
Personally I sometimes carry a Glock21. Far and away most of the time I carry a S&W 325NG 45ACP revolver. The first time I held it I knew that we were ment to be together.

My .45 carry pistol is an H&K USPc. Love it. But, to be perfectly honest, I find it a bit bulky for concealed carry.

keltyke is right on. you need to shoot and handle before you choose. because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for you. if you want opinions you will get alot of them here. personally i prefer revolvers in 357mag but there are several good revolvers in 45 and 10mm from S&W. if you want an opinion on an auto i recomend trying an HK or 1911 in 45acp. if you want a 10mm the best i have tried has already been mentioned by peetakilla glocks 29 and dan wessons 1911 cbob.

I appreciate you want a .45 cal CCW; you need to wear one on your hip for a few hours/days before pluncking down the $'s. A 9mm with the right quality ammo will be infinately easier to carry daily (look at the KelTec PF-9 or Kahr PM-); smaller, lighter, less obtrusive. I have a S&W 1911 and I love it, but would never carry this pistol as a daily piece. My CCW's are S&W442, Keltec P-3AT and PF-9. Love them all. Good luck

What I like and what everyone else like on here is irrelevant. We can suggest what we like. That doesn't do you any good. I would suggest going to a range and renting a few to see what feels good in your hand. Fire off 50 -100 and see what you like.

45 ACP and 10mm are two of my favorite cartridges. Either would make a great personal defense weapon.

The biggest thing to remember in concealed carry is that smaller and lighter is better. A bulky or heavy gun will likely become a nuisance and be left at home before too long, which won't do you any good when you need it. No to worry, though, as there are plenty of small guns in these calibers.

I personally have a Glock 36 for my carry gun. Its thinner than any other Glock, being a single stack, light weight at 26 oz, and holds 6+1 of 45 ACP.

first CCW

Wow! Now that's great you want to carry a 10mm or 45. Just a word of advice. I see someone mentioned it here already but you really need to carry one for a few days and see if that size of a gun will be tolerated.

Like another post said, you may not carry it if you don't like it. No good sitting at home.

Have you thought as to how you are going to carry? What type of holster setup? You can't wear a jacket all day.

Just worried since this is your FIRST CCW.

It would either be carried in a serpa or somethng of the like on my right hip or if i was out and about in the woods or outdoors maybe in a drop holster on my right side. I don't work in an office and am always outside and don't tuck my shirt in unless i am at a function of some kind.

Over at Glock talk a lot and me included really likr the Glock G-30 10 + rds of 45 acp in a small package. It also thought of as one of the most accurate Glocks due to the shorter barrel no barrel flex Check one out you will be glad you did!

while it is true some conditions require different guns, the heavy bulky thing can always be solved by the proper carry rig. That includes a good belt.

I carry a full size gun everywhere everytime I can. Now that I have found a good carry setup, I can even do it in t-shirt and shorts, whereas before I was dropping down to a small 380.

A good gun belt and mtac or crossbreed holster will let you carry whatever you want imo.

As for guns, I like the cz style of gun. I picked the witness version due to the large beavertail build into the gun. I started with the springfield p9 version. I also switch to a 1911 due to the thickness being more comfortable in my less fat pants so to speak.

+ 1 for the Glock G30. It's a tick wider than others, but with the proper holster and a little time, you'll forget you have it on.

My brother has the Kimber Ultra Carry II. Also a great piece, but heavier than a G30.
