Good AR for the $$?

No the prices are not good at all. I paid $599.00 for my Bushmaster AR C-15 same as the one shown. Normal MFR retail price is $669.00 for that rifle.

Street price will be less around $639.00 or so. With red dot, 2 30 rd mags, risers, hard case and lock.

For just over $1000 you can get a colt. Colt is considered a "tier 1" rifle meaning it's among the best where as the bushmaster is a "tier 3" out of 3 tiers so they are low-end rifles. A busshy or similar rifle will probably suit you just fine for having fun at the range but if you want a rifle for HD then you need to train with it beyond just shooting at the range at paper. This requires lots and lots of rounds through the gun and the lower end guns won't be as durable as a colt.

Bushmasters aren't bad but that price is. For less you can pick up a complete PSA rifle and it'll be just as good and you can customize it how you want when you order it. I have 3 and they're great guns.

Bushmaster makes a good commercial grade AR. The prices are high for todays AR market. Look at what PSA has to offer, you get a mostly mil-spec rifle for less money.

That's $579 for a rifle (you'll have to assemble the lower) with a chrome barrel/bore plus $15 for shipping. They used to have assembled lowers but don't have any in stock at the moment... I used to be afraid to build ARs myself, but it's extremely easy and ar15.com has tons of great assembly videos in the 'build it yourself' section.

Thanks, I have built a few ARs in my time, I didn't realize the OP was asking about a kit gun. I was trying to find an assembled rifle from their site for that kind of money and couldn't find one. Yes, that is a good deal.

cabelas usually marks up a fair bit on their prices. you could probably get that same rifle cheaper from your local gun store.

some good starter rifles are the palmetto state armory AR15, the smith and wesson MP15 sport and the DPMS sportical/oracle models. all are around $600 brand new. all are very good rifles.

I think he was talking about a complete rifle, but since PSA doesn't have any available now I tried to provide something to help in case he was open to a build (OP---you should be, it's easy).

What does the BCM offer that the PSA doesn't? Never mind, I figured it out. The BCM has a hammer forged barrel.

They are out of stock of almost all complete AR except for the Colt SP6920. Business must be good. I wonder when they will be able to stock more?

To the OP - For your use, I recommend the S&W M&P15 Sport as well.
