I'm looking to buy a new1911 I have a colt defender looking for a full size. Looking to spend around 800.00 to 1100.00 what would you recommend for me to buy in 45acp.

At the lower end of your price range (@$850.00) I'd look seriously at a new Colt Competition model 1911. At slightly above the high end (@1,250.00) I'd go with the Dan Wesson RZ45 Heritage model.

Besides the other guns suggested I would look seriously at Springfield Armory guns.

Nice to see you on here Bob! Been a while. :)

OP. I agree with this. Picked up another Springfield Armory TRP recently. In love with that firearm.

Numerous Colt models are good buys in the OP's price range.

The Ruger SR1911 is a very good Series 70 design.

On the upper end of the range, the Dan Wesson 1911s are excellent.

Kimber makes good 1911s in that range.

Won't go wrong with any of the above IMHO.

Depends on the features you want. The best basic G.I. style now is the CZ. Unlike the tiny military style sights, It has the taller mil-spec sights. Great 1911.

I'll go along with some others and say Colt. In your price range there are some good options.

Those were limited run pistols. They are still out there right now but I don't know if we'll see anymore.

As others have suggested, there are several models of Colt and Springfield Armory to choose from. The Dan Wesson Heritage is right at the top end of your price list -- http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...1+Dan+Wesson+1911+RZ-45+Heritage+8+1+45ACP+5".

Think about how you want to use the gun and what features are important. Want an "old style" 1911, then look at the Colt Series 70 -- http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...d/36102/Colt+O1970A1CS+Series+70+7+1+45ACP+5". I think they are better out of the box than the Springfield Mil-Spec -- http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...d+PB9108LP+1911+Mil-Spec+7+1+45ACP+5"+Package

Adjustable sight model, the Springfield Range Officer is pretty nice: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...9129LP+1911+Range+Officer+9+1+9mm+5\"+Package.

If you want a fixed sight, beavertail grip model, look at one of several Springfield Loaded or Colt models.

Dan Wesson but I am extremely partial to KIMBER. You can get any sort of style in that price range. I LOVE the Custom TLE RL ii (LAPD SWAT). The gun comes with match grade parts and is unbelievable. Another great one is the Kimber Raptor.

It all depends on your style. I have a Kimber .45 and A Kimber Mountain Ascent .308 rifle. They are definitely top of the line.

The one thing you will learn about 1911s is some need 500 rounds to be broken in. Also you MUST get a Wilson Combat or similar magazine. I will never understand why 99.9% .45s ship with a crappy magazine.

It's not shown on the CZ USA web site. My understanding is that CZ discontinued the CZ-branded 1911 within a few months after they introduced it. I don't think it exists any more.

Everyone has their favorite brand, some prefer colt, others kimber, and so on. I really do not go by brand name in as much as what pulls at my heart strings. In the past they have been two Springfield 1911's. Now most recently was a stainless steel from the performance center of Smith and Wesson.

For me the Colt and the Kimbers do not do anything for me but it's just me. In other words do not buy the name, but buy what you like and how it feels to you, not others.

I own 1911's made by Kimber, Para, Colt, Springfield, and Sig. Personally in that price range I think Sigs are the nicest for the $

Springfield Armory loaded model, operator.
Dan Wesson

I am not impressed with recent Colt quality. Neither are a lot of people
