Gonzales flack?

Gonzales is a racist and should have never been placed in a high government position. He is directly involved in suspect prosecutions of border patrol agents using one of his attorneys named Sutton. Sutton is out of control and is obviously beholding to Gonzales.

I'm not happy with a made up scandal of firing attorneys but if that is what it takes to get Gonzales out of authority, so be it. I just wish we could mature to the point of going after crooks for cause instead of getting them any way possible.

I suspect Richard Nixon would disagree with your assesment. IIRC, firing a US Attorney in order to shut down the Watergate investigation was one of the Articles of Impeachment.

Now, granted, Impeachment is a political, rather than a legal proceeding. But simply to say that the law governing the President's authority over Executive branch appointees give him carte blanche to violate other Federal laws by using that authority is a pretty bold statement.

Obstruction of justice is a felony. If, and we don't know this, a US Attorney was fired to end an investigation, that would still be obstruction of justice, even if this firing was, of itself, within the President's authority. The crime would be the interference in a criminal investigation. The President has the power to hire and fire US Attorneys. That doesn't give him the authority to break other laws.

Moral of the story: dont give other people shovels to dig holes for you especially those of an opposition political party.

The Dems probably had the answers before they asked Gonzales the questions. Gonzales gave different answers that didnt match what was already in black & white. Was he lying or just really didnt remember or stupid. Government E- mail is forever and an official record. He is supposed to be the top legal beagle for the government and he cant even figure out what his answer should be. Minus points for stupidity from me.

A petty political ploy by the Dems
I think alot of people are changing their tones about that opinion. It is becoming more and more likely, as new information surfaces and testimonies play out, that these firings where done on a "who might prosecute guilty people we do not want them to and who will not prosecute innocent people we want them to" basis. In this case the firings were illegal and amount to obstruction of justice among other things.

At first I did not pay much attention to this issue but I am not interested in seeing how it plays out and what really happened.

Ok, so Sampson resigned March 12th, and just now, Gonzales's personal attorney Goodling resigned.

What is there to resign over? Seriously, there is a lot of smoke, and every right wing water bearer is claiming there is no fire. Why are these people resigning?

Actually, I do have a question concerning Gonzales.....

Besides firing a few federal attorneys (which is NEVER a bad idea, IMHO) and occupying valuable office space waiting for a SCOTUS position that may never come (& he'll NEVER be confirmed for), just what has Alberto Gonzales done, anyway?......

I kinda miss Ashcroft. At least he was doing something for his paycheck....
