Golden Sabre vs. Gold Dot

Gold Dots are Number 1 in my tests in wet sand -- For penetration and expansion.

Hydro-shocks and Golden Sabres are practice ammo. ;)

Very informitive post.

I would be interested in seeing the data you compiled on the deer shooting. Such as did the bullet pass through, bullet weight etc.

You scared me for a moment when you said you shot all those deer in one season. I'm glad you were thinning the deer population.

You all have a good day.

Just as an FYI & I was checking into "wimpy" 9mm bullets by Remington/GS ...

Talked to the chief LEO sales guy at Rem (mumble = his name) for about an hour an a half quite a while back.

GS appear, by all the imperical data (penetration tests, etc. which, at the time, were not published by any other bullet mfgr), to be as good or better, than any other bullet out there.

The rep did say that LEO reps had a real problem with jacket separation - even tho' the lead core still penetrated to the 14"+, etc. (as an aside, I couldn't care if the jacket blows off to create a secondary wound channel & actually, it sounds like a good idea, IMNSHO).

Anyway, Rem does a LEO-only bonded core to jacket that us mere mortals can't get (through normal channels anyway). The LEO only bonded jacket doesn't penetrate any better than "ours," the jacket just doesn't separate. Whoop.

Like I said, just an FYI re what I got outa the Rem rep ....

I carry 124 +p in my BHP/9 & most certainly stake my life on 'em. If I had GDs, I would feel just as secure. Mind-set to not become a victim & bullet placement if you do are probably THE most important aspects.

Kinda wish Barnes would do a low-drag sabot 9mm round ... say a 95gr HPBT at about 1800 with 25" pentration at 100yds. ;)

I use Golden Sabers. They just shoot better in my gun that's all. My G19 "likes" them.
I get better accuracy with the GS than with the GD.
As for how they perform in human tissue, I pray to God that I never have to find out.

I've always used Golden Sabres. I used to have a Taurus PT-9 that was very unreliable with many HPs (and some FMJs!). The Golden Sabres worked fine. Same story with my buddie's Bersa .380: the Sabres were the only HPs it could cycle reliably.
I know that's a very limited sample, but it was enough for me. I feel reliability trumps stopping power, and if the Sabres worked for those mediocre (at best) guns, they'll work fine in my G19 and Mak.

If you like Gold Dot bullets give ProLoad ammo a try. Excellent bullet loaded into high quality ammo (reasonably priced too!).

Good Shooting!

Not that I am an expert or have ever had to shoot anyone, thank god, but here is my opinion.

I like the idea behind the Golden Sabers with a pre-failed jacket and a great trackrecord against barriers. The rounded ogive feeds extremely nice and although they may not be as explosive as some or as gnarly as others they seem to have a philosophy that I can appreciate.

Design a bullet that works well in a wide variety of circumstances and make it reliable. It may not be the hotest but I have used them in 230gr trim in my .45, 155gr(?) in my old .40, +P for my .38sp and also in my wife's 380.

Im happy.

FWIW, IMHO, YMMV.....
