Golden Boy scope

I have come to the conclusion that regardless of looks I am going to have to put a scope on my .22 cal. Golden Boy if I am going to shoot it as my eyes are demanding it. Here's the thing-- Somewhere on the www. I saw a scope that looks like the ones in the old western movies. Anybody know what I am talking about?(I may not). If I can find it I think it won't detract from the looks as much as the more modern looking scopes.
 
Dixie Gun Works has a brass, 18 inch long scope which would look nice on your golden boy. The problem is that its length would likely require mounting on the barrel. So the cost of the scope (350$) plus the rings and bases, plus the drilling an tapping would add up.

You might also try searching the web sites of the usual on-line venders (midway USA, grafs, natchez shooters supply) for black powder or muzzle loading scopes. Again, these scopes will be expensive, long, and will probably require special mounting.
 
Yeah, the cost of the project could get pricey. I tend to agree with your conclusion. Just put a regular scope on it. Mounting would be a snap.
 
These aren't Henry guns, but they give an idea of how straight tube scopes will look on a lever-gun. To me, they may be the second-best option (after the old-fashioned scopes) in terms of aesthetics.

Those are not my guns in the picture, but I'm guessing they are 1-4x20mm scopes. I have a 2.5x20mm for my Marlin that is even more compact. It adds only 8.75 ounces total (scope + base + rings) to the gun, and they can be mounted as low as the lowest base/rings will allow, which is generally a good thing on lever guns which have angled stocks intended more for iron sight use.

Those Hi-Lux scopes would really look great on any lever rifle that would allow for over the bore mounting. I see they even offer a package for the Henry. :)

I am 67 years old and my eyes aren't what they used to be. To be truthful, they were never all that great to begin with. I have worn glasses since the second grade. :cool:

I was thinking about putting modern scopes on a few rifles that I rarely shoot due to my aging eyes not being able to properly focus on the target and sights (It's called Presbyopia), but I will definitely be looking into this line of retro looking scopes.

The Leupold scopes pictured on those Marlin rifles would definitely be my first choice if I were to go to a more modern scope. I have used them on my rifles for decades and have always been satisfied with them.
