Go to the link below. Look down the list & listen to where Larry Pratt interviews the video-game hating Nazi Jack Thompson:mad: . The man is a out & out fool. I'm 18. I have played video games like "Halo","Medal of Honor", & the 007 games since I was 13 & have not gone on a killing rampage.

http://www.soundwaves2000.com/livefire/index.asp?how=1

In the interview Thompson says that the video games kids play these days are like the virtual reality games the military use. Bull plop. If the games were that realistic, don't you think the military would not allow the public to have access to them so that Johnny Terrorist won't be able to buy the games & learn how to kill government agents easier:rolleyes: ?

Later in the interview, Thompson talks about how they should hold the stores that sell the games accountable for selling games to children. Also Bull plop.

I can't even begin to describe the amount of times I have seen a kid try to buy a M rated game, get turned down then go outside & get his parents who come inside, buy the game for their kid & not even glance at the rating, then berate the clerk for making them get their butts out of the car & do actual parenting. Also, how would a 11 year old get $50 to buy a game like Grand Theft Auto, transportation to the store & back home without his parent's knowing? And unless that 11 year old has a TV in his room, how could he play the game without his parents walking past him in the living room & not notice their child was murdering prostitutes & such?

I was in a store once & saw a kid who couldn't have been more than 11 playing a demo of "Hitman: Contracts". He was going through the level stabbing everybody he saw with a butcher knife while his mother stood behind him as silent as a rock until it was time to go. Parents are to blame, not the store.

I'll tell you exactly why youths now a days are more violent. Kids need attention. If they can't get their parents to pay attention to them one way, they'll do it another more violent way. That is the problem. The kids who have to be raised by the TV which while it may entertain them a little, can't provide the love a mother can. Those are the same parents who go on TV after the massacre & say "We didn't know he was capable of anything like this".

OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T:mad: ! You never spent any time with them! I refuse to believe that a person who intends to kill a load of people can do so without someone seeing that desire in the killers personality.

I'm not talking about the single mother who has to work to support her family. That's something else entirely.

I'm more inclined to believe that alarm clocks cause school shootings than guns or video games. Think about it. When your clock wakes you up at 5 in the morning, don't you feel like throwing it out the window;) ?

I used to want to donate to GOA but now I'll just save the money for the new .22 I want.

At these final links, you can find out what Jack Thompson REALLY is. A media whore like Sarah Brady & Jesse Jackson.

Well here is where reality and the First Amendment clash...the reality is that all of the crap spewed into kids heads buy TV, Movies, video games etc does in fact lead to anti soical behavior. But you cant stop it, its in the constituion.

Parents are the ones responsible...they should ban this crap from their kids.

They wouldn't sell it if it didn't sell... And do you think 11 year olds have enough money from saving the lunch money to purchase the latest D-Day computer game for the Qbox, PS-umpteen, or whatever is out this week?

(That said, i LOVE playing medal of honor, and just about any other military 1st person shoot 'em up)
And i'm still convinced my hand-eye coordination would suck if it wasn't for my good friends pac-man, galaga, and pong.

I've actually heard conflicting reports regarding the effects of 'bad' video games on kids.

One one hand, 'garbage in, garbage out'...

On the other hand, I've heard that since GTA was released, violent crimes, carjackings, and other playable activities have decreased a little. Some have argued that by venting your violent urges on little digital people, you're less inclined to do so against real people.

But boy oh boy it sure does make you daydream about running over swarms of pedestrians and going to war with the police...but so does watching "Blues Brothers" so go figure...

Maybe the world would be a better place if folks CRACKED OPEN A BOOK ONCE IN A WHILE...

I forget who said, 'There is no travesty greater than making someone read when they didn't have to'. It was funny at first anyways...

But I'm with you on that Wild, I've been aweful close to using the TV for target practice for the betterment of my family.

I have nothing against reading. I love it. I read Daniel Silva's "The Messenger" in 3 nights.

I do believe however, that the video game industry takes a lot of flak over things that aren't their fault. Just like the gun industry. And now I find out that GOA goes along with Jack Thompson, a man who has been reprimanded by the Florida Bar Association and has a obsession with Janet Reno & Batman.

He's a liar & a media whore. The thing that REALLY gets my blood going is that I had a respect for GOA. I like the no compromise ideal. My belief is that you shouldn't negotiate with the devil.

My parents always taught me that video games and the like were for ENTERTAINMENT and should be taken as such. When we get 'tards like these people who think that video games are reality you get problems. That being said, when i was in high school and the original half-life platform came out i spent over 1500 hours playing in the course of a year. I LIVED that game. And yes a littel of it bled into my dailiy life. As in to this day i still carry a good crowbar in my car because you never know when youll need to smash headcrabs or kill semi-sentient zombies ;-p)

I'm afraid. I find myself repeatedly agreeing with Wild lately...

Vendetta, wanna see a video game that actually came from military development and use? www.terracorps.com Was developed by Kaon Interactive based on some of their work in sims for the US Army. It's old now but what the gooberment uses today isn't terribly more realistic, and the government has nothing to say about sales of offshoots anyway...

Thats why you are generally wrong :)

I have nothing against reading. I love it. I read Daniel Silva's "The Messenger" in 3 nights.

No V4...thats not reading...thats chewing gum for the mind. Reading is Tacitus, Gibbon, Sir Pendregal Moon, Runciman, Nietztche and I could go on and on. Reading is biographies of Che, mao, Henry VIII, Stalin...reading is "Politics Among Nations" by Hans Morganthau, and Keynes, Adam Smith, Marx, and lenin, Freud, Friedan and Fromm. Reading is designed, when you are young, (and old), not just to soothe and amuse but to widen your horizons and make you think.
