Glock Refurb Pistols

I found a Glock model 19 factory refurb for a decent price with two 15 round mags and wonder what you guys think of them? It’s a generation 3 that I prefer. I have only shot one Glock. A Gen 1 model 17. So for $440 is that a good deal?

Thanks for the link. With the lower shipping price that’s a better deal. I would most likely buy a new barrel that is lead bullet friendly. But I don’t think you can wear out a Glock barrel anyway.

There was one gunwriter named Chuck and I forget his last name that had around 200,000 rounds through his and he stated it shot like new.

I have a SD9VE I really like but would like to own at least one Glock before I croak.

I've seen police trade ins with night sights and 3 mags that are cheaper than that and probably have way less rounds through them.

But they're all .40's and .45's. 9mm Glocks just cost more because of demand.

Yes you are correct. Matter of fact I just sent my son a link for some Glock 40s model 22 IIRC and they come with 3 mags for $340. Darn good prices. But I have so much 9mm and loading components that I will stick with that caliber. If I were just starting I would be all over those 40s.

I have been a 9mm fan since the early 80s when the new Hicap guns were all the rage. Even before the Glock hit the streets here.

As mentioned at that price you’re basically paying for a new pistol, especially with prices lately.

Tunnel rat yes the price is close to new especially when you add in shipping and transfer. I have asked about Glocks before and most recommended the Gen3 over the other marks. So that’s what I was looking for.

I admit I don’t know a lot about them. But I am listening to you all.

Gen 2 and 3's are the best for 9mm. I'm preferential to Gen 4's for the .40 because so many of the upgrades Glock made for the 4th Gen was for .40 and I've never had an issue with mine.

Thanks Truth Teller your opinion is appreciated. I do a lot of looking, research and asking questions before I buy. And I don’t need a new gun. But so far as I can tell need has nothing to do with it.:D

I have three 9s now and this is just to scratch an itch. But it’s just part of the fun. And I have never lost money on a gun.

$440 would be a great price for a new Glock. Not so wonderful for a used one.

You've only ever shot a gen 1, but you know you prefer a gen 3?

No I don’t know I prefer a gen 3 it was what was recommended. But to be fair the folks that recommend the gen3 made the point that there are no bad Glock models. So a deal on a 4,5,2 or even a 1 is acceptable. This just seemed to be the best deal I found on the model suggested.

And like Truth Tellers said the 9s are what everyone wants now because the cops have once again “seen the light” about the 9mm round.

I liked it when I got my first one (model 39-2) and never went chasing the caliber wars. That was around 1982.

I bought a police turn-in Model 22 for $285. It came with the box and two magazines. I just picked it up from my FFL yesterday. Looking at the internals, I would say it had been shot very little. The same place also had some with more holster wear for $245 or something like that.

Not to open a can of worms, but if you’re planning on buying an aftermarket barrel anyways, buy the cheapest glock .40 you can find.

With a .40 to 9mm conversion barrel and some 9mm mags you can have a pistol that will shoot two calibers. If you want to totally convert the gun to full time 9mm you just need to swap out the extractor and ejector, along with the barrel and mag change.

I have two glock .40 gen 2’s that I completely converted to 9mm and they get carried on a daily basis.

At that price, you're fast approaching the cost of a new pistol. I spotted a Gen 3 Factory Rebuild on BG for $399, and GB had a bunch of used G19s in the $400-450 range. I don't think $440 is a complete ripoff for a factory refurb, but I think you can do better. Particularly since things like the recoil spring assembly are so simple that a trained monkey (or even I) can replace them.

You may not need to swap out anything, and sometimes the Glocks will run 9mm rounds in a .40 mag. I picked up a used Model 23 some time back that came with 9mm, .40 and .357 SIG barrels, and I just swapped barrels. (I used the factory .23 mags) Other Conversion barrels often work with only magazine changes.

I've got a Glock 38 (.45 GAP) that I picked up at a very low price, and I found a .40 conversion barrel for it -- and the ejector and mag followers were the only things that had to be changed. Rather than lose use of a .45 GAP mag, I picked up a couple of .40 mags for it when shooting .40 rounds.

The way Glocks have nearly zero hand fitting, makes me think a factory refurb would be great. Basically, tear down, inspect, lube and rebuild. Confirm barrel fit, all function check and then shoot some for accuracy confirmation.

The only concern I would have would be poor accuracy.

What is the warranty?

For price comparison, I bought a nib G23 USA production for $425 to my hands. So, I wonder if Grabagun won't be a better deal long term.

I prefer to buy a brand new GLOCK, with the used ones you never know how many times it's been dry fired or how many +P rds or steel cased rds have been fired through it?

Glocks are already a bargain when new, buying a used one and spending more money trying to convert it to 9mm is a waste, just buy the original one you want instead of trying to fix an old one.

the price on a used one is not much better than a brand new one.

just like buying a car, you wouldnt buy the used car with a new battery, new set of tires, rebuilt engine if the price was almost the same as a brand new one would you?

I would always pick the factory fresh brand new gun, unless it's old surplus or collectable that they dont make anymore.

Glocks have to be dry fired to be taken down, it doesn't hurt them. Even if the pin busts, new pins are a few bucks.

Most ammo shot through a gun is going to be cheap standard pressure stuff. I'd be more concerned when I buy a revolver what's been put through them.

Here is the gun I am looking at. I don't see what the warrenty is or if it has one. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/735888498

I looked on Buds Gun Shop and new gen 4s can be had for just over $500. Here is a new gen3 for $506. It says its brand new. I wouldn't have expected that. So you guys were correct about a new one for not much more than used. Now I have more thinking to do.

This may be the best deal of all since it comes with three magazines.

only thing I noticed

Lots of dry fire made my G19 trigger much better. Glock does not recommend against dry firing their pistols.
