Glock night sights.

What do you run on your Glock?

I'm a Sig guy first. I alternate between Sig and Glock often. My go to night sights (with the exception of my Glock 42 which sports XS Big Dots..yuck) are Trijicon HD's. The 90 degree cut for one handed manipulations, the U notch in the back sight..etc. love them.

I feel it's time for a change. I bought my 5th Glock 19 and it's my second Gen 4. Sporting factory sight. Which need to go.


Here's what I'm a fan of:

• steel /metal
• tritium
• 90 degree rear
• darker or blacked out rear sight
• bright front sight


Is thee anything close to the T. HD's?
 
Curious as well as my only G19 is still bone stock. Not to derail your thread, but why so many G19s? Have they all had issues, just wore them out, or just a hoarder? ;)

Haha, I get bored of them them I sell them. I gotta stop doing that. I have a KKM barrel for the 19 that I purchased years ago. That's what keeps making me buy new ones shortly after I sell mine. I have issues man. Like I said. I'm a SIG guy through and through.

Ameriglo.. I don't know. I'm not too wild about the squared sight picture they have either. I'm noticing the HD's have a little too much space in the sight picture. The front sight is really slim and doesn't fill up when you align them.


I know....years running the darn things and the more and more I learn the more things I pick up on. And the more I highly respect older shooters and their opinions. Cause all the crap I'm going through, they've already gone through.
 
I have the XS sights on my 42.. I don't really pay mind to what anyone says, but I really can't take a precise shot with them and that irks me.

HD's are meant to have that? What's the reasoning?

I'm liking the 10-8 Performance by Hilton Yam, but they don't have one with tritium. Just fiber optic. :/
 
The reasoning is they're meant as defensive sights that you want to be able to pick up quickly. Unless we are talking past 25 yds a little wiggle room around the front post isn't going to cause you to suffer, especially when you remember the rule of 3s (3 shots, 3 seconds, 3 yds, the "typical" defensive shooting by FBI statistics). You get the flash of color and you pull the trigger. Your pistol might also be at an angle depending on your position where a tight rear notch would obscure the front sight noticeably. Essentially you trade some precision for speed and ease of use in less than ideal conditions. I don't find they are as imprecise as XS sights. My only complaint is at 25 yds the front post (which is actually fairly wide it's just the rear notch is even wider) is the full width of the head of a shilouette target making headshots a bit harder. Again, everything is a compromise.

Wow, thanks for that! Makes more sense. So XS is out of the question. On a snubby .38 or a 42 it's fine. My SIGs and Glocks have all sported HD's.

What do you think? Off the record. Should I just stick to what I know on my defensive pistol? Then just try out whatever sight I'm curious about down the road?
 
On a Glock sights are pretty easy to change out and typically pretty cheap. There's no harm in trying other sights just to see what works best for you if you have the money and time to do so. In some ways this is why I like having two of the same pistol for certain models, that way I can modify or adjust the one I use for classes/range while the one I use for carry stays the way I know works in the meantime. I just wish HDs weren't so expensive.
 
Yeah. They're $130 retail. I've worked at gun shops for the past few years. Doing gun smithing and sales. Glock's and SIG's are he easiest pistols to work on for me. Especially with the right tools. Anyone can do it.

You hit the nail on the head with the price part... I used to get stuff at cost. Now I'm paying retail. Which is why I'm being a little more cautious now. Full pop prices are a bitch lately.
 
I've been running the factory Glock night sights on my G19 for about 2 years now, and I'm perfectly happy with them, particularly at the price I paid. The tritium dots are nice and big, which is great for an old guy like me. I find them easier to pick up than some Novaks I've got.

You're not old! Lol, I need for my sights to have that 90 degree cut. Or I begin spazzing out. I train with one handed manipulations. You've seen the videos of my buddies and I doing certain drills. Novaks are nice but lack that.

As for the Glock factory.. I saw a set priced really well. I did consider it, but I might as well just jump on the Meprolights which I still get at cost. Just not used to and moved away from that 3 dot sight picture.

(I black out the rear of the HD's and you can't even see them in the day time anyways.)
 
I took 6 Glocks belonging to me, friends and relatives straight to the Smyrna headquarters a few years ago. Dropped them off about 10 AM and was told to come back about 2 PM. They installed factory nite sights on all 6, inspected and replaced any worn parts, test fired and cleaned them for $58 each. I hung out in some local gun shops and ate lunch before returning

They work for me, can't beat the price.

That's pretty cool that they let you drop off pistols right to the factory. SIG wants me to pay overnight shipping when I could drive there during lunch. :(

Just contact Glock I'm sure they will work out something, this is nothing special, they do the same for anyone. I live about half way between the north Atlanta Suburbs and Chattanooga, about an hour either way, and don't have to pay shipping. One of the advantages of owning a Glock. It is my understanding they will inspect, replace worn parts, refinish if necessary, and clean any gun returned to them for the life of the gun at no cost. I think there may be a minimal charge if the frame has to be replaced.
