It definately wouldn't hurt to call Glock first and get something in writing as you suggest.
I was talking to the Glock armourer that I bought the gun from about this process. He was aware that a few companies were doing the reduction, but he didn't mention anything about voiding the warranty. It does beg the question though, why doesn't Glock offer the same service?
