Glock for 1911

If you have small hands and want a 9mm 1911 you might consider the Springfield EMP4 Champion. It is essentially a 1911 that has been redesigned around the 9mm/.40S&W length cartridges so the size of the grip frame is reduced front to rear and in width but the length is the same as a regular 1911. Also, the reach to the trigger and controls have been shortened some. It has a 4" barrel and uses 10rd mags, they are well appointed guns with an aluminum frame and stainless slide, nice trigger pull out of the box, they weigh 31oz empty - not too light, not too heavy. I bought one for my 14y/o son to use in action pistol because he not a big kid and has small hands. It's a perfect fit for him and there was an immediate improvement in his accuracy and control when he switched from the Hi Power he had been shooting to the EMP4. Recoil is mild and it has been 100% reliable through three matches and numerous range sessions. I'm very happy with the performance, accuracy, reliability, and fit and finish of the gun.

You can see in this pic that my boy is only about 5'2" and 110lbs but the EMP4 fits his hands just about perfectly-

I think you should purchase a Colt 1911 or 1991 Government series 80 in 45ACP. I have one and I love it. Infact my Son's have one and my Daughter has one. Springfield also make good quality. Although stay away from those fancy custom 1911s un less of course you want to pay more for nothing that will shoot any better than a stock Colt or Springfield.

That's my story and I sticking to it.

Wendyj, I don't remember if you said which generation G26 you have but try to handle a Gen4 G19 without the add-on backstraps. Since you're relatively comfortable with your G26 I can't imagine a better choice for an upgrade in size and capacity. And the Gen4 does feel smaller in the hand than a Gen 3. (The Gen4 with the small snap on backstrap feels like a Gen 3).

Still, nothing at all wrong with a 1911 in 9mm. I have a Range Officer Compact 9mm and can recommend it and the Range Officer Champion (same gun except has a standard length grip and holds an extra round).

Glock 26 vs 19

I put the extension to the magazine on my Glock 26 and it feels and shoots like a 19. Most important is that I put a 3.5# connector on both of them and the lighter trigger makes a big difference in accuracy. Carried the 26 a lot but now I am carrying the 19 along with a longer shirt. Both are great guns and I clean them after shooting even thought I don't really have to.

After a few range trips I have added another Glock to my collection. I tried the Glock 19 which is just a tad bigger than my gen 4 26 and it shoots somewhat better than I thought it would. I'm still using Glock 42 as under shirt carry and I just couldn't leave without the Springfield Range officer. It fit the bill perfect for carry in truck and sits beside my nightstand along with an old security six I just can't part with. The 1911 shot a little higher due to hand hold but I managed to compensate after a few mags.

I would buy a Ruger 1911 before I'd buy a SIG 1911. In fact, I'd probably buy ANY brand of 1911 (other than Taurus) before I'd buy a SIG

I'll agree that when Sig first jumped on the 1911 bandwagon they had some teething pain but when it comes to current production I'll take a Sig over just about any other brand in the same price point. My vanilla XO has about 5k rounds through it to date and runs flawlessly. At one point a few years ago I had six 1911's, Springfield TRP, Springfield Loaded 9mm, Para SSP Limited, Colt Gold Cup Trophy, Sig XO, and a Kimber Team Match II. Sold them all but the Kimber and Sig and the only reason I still have the Kimber is because the wife adopted it.
