Glock Down Sizing

I bought Glock 22 Gen 3 three years ago and have put 200 rounds down range. Last year I added a M&P Shield to the family. Carrying Glock 22 now seams little heavy. Thinking about trading down to a Glock 23 Gen 3. Is it worth trading Glock 22 for Glock 23 or should I just keep Glock 22 and save up to buy Glock 23? Looking for some good feedback before making a decision that I will regret.

I personally think the Glock 19/23 sized guns are "best of breed" for a fighting handgun.

Small enough to conceal and carry all day ( my G19 is always on me). Big enough to shoot well and afford a full finger grip. Good ammo capacity

The G17/22 makes a fine exposed carry duty type weapon, but the added grip length makes it just a bit harder to conceal off duty or for CCW use

I have had and used both size 22 & 23, 17 & 19 extensively. I prefer the smaller sized 19/23. But im not a large guy, 5'9" 175lbs. Others with larger body types may feel differently.

I'd take the G19/23 any day over the 17/22. They just feel better to me, I shoot them equally well and I can use the longer magazines in the smaller guns if I don't want to give up 2 rounds. In fact I only carry the 17 or 22 mags as spares.

Thanks JMR40 and Sharkbite for your feedback. What you guys said makes a lot of sense and agree. I do have extra .40 glock mags, so it would be wise to go with Glock 23. I did look at Glock 27 and didn't like my pinky hanging off and the no rail was a frown.

If youre going to go down, might as well go straight to the 27. The difference between the 23 and 22 isnt worth the effort.

I have 17's, 19's, and 26's, and carry a 17 and 26 daily. The 19's really arent that much smaller than the 17's, and they are big enough they wont go where the 26 will go.

While the 19's grip is better now that they redid the front strap and removed the mag ripping hole, its still somewhat cramped in my hands. The 17's give a full grip, and the 26's allow you to wrap your pinkie under it and get a comfortable grip. The 19 is right in the middle, and my pinkie is still in a bad spot.

Dont give up on the 27 just by a casual feel in the gun shop. The smaller Glocks are amazing guns, and once you get used to them, and I think you'll be amazed at how well you can shoot them. I shoot my 26's just as well as my 17's and 19's.

You dont need the mag extensions either. Once you get used to your pinkie wrapped underneath, you'll see they are not needed. I tried them early on, and quickly learned they are more of a detriment than a help. They make the gun unnecessarily bigger, and pinch you hands, both while shooting, and especially during a reload, if you arent careful.

Is it worth trading Glock 22 for Glock 23 or should I just keep Glock 22 and save up to buy Glock 23?

Probably worth it if your going to carry it, but if your going to carry it I'd really recommend going further down to the G27 because it has a shorter slide with rounded muzzle and a smaller grip for easier carry, and it still shoots as well as the G23 imo.

I ended up with the G35 for nighstand and range, and a G27 for truck and ccw. I couldn't be happier with those two.
Bought a pair of 9mm barrels just for fun...

I wouldnt mind having a G23 around, but only if found cheap as a beater owb camp/woods gun...?

If you are already familiar with the shield for carry.

The M&P compact is another option. If you hold it up next to a shield, the grip is slightly shorter, the barrel a little longer, and about a 1/4 inch thicker.

It conceals well too, similar to a Glock 26. As its just slightly larger than the Glock 26/27 but still smaller than the Glock 19 by a noticeable amount... While offering a full grip for me, when using the mag with the finger rest.

The Glock 19 size is interesting to me, and it is a versatile size. I am not in love with the grip though. Its just short enough that the bottom sits just inside the palm... feels odd. The larger Glocks feel better, and the small ones I know what its up with them. (this is all Gen 4 BTW, I don't like the Gen 3 feel at all)

With the shield you have the only CC firearm you'll ever need (unless you need a pocket 380 also)

I'd trade the G22 for a G35. Or order a G40 and get a 40 barrel for it then you'd have a 10mm and 40 S&W for just a few dollars more.

Did I read your post correctly -- that you've been carrying a gun and you have only fired 200 shots with it?

I like the feel of the 23 better than a 22 because of the malfunct hump. However I shoot the 22 more accurately.

What is the G22 going o be designated as? is it to fill Multiple roles like range and SD or HD? Seems to me your wanting an alternate carry. If that is the case the 23 will fit well for someone who does not like a full size for carry.

Awesome stuff I'm reading. Really like the quote " why do I need anything else" Glock 22 for home defense and Shield for EDC. Extra mags are cheaper than another gun I would have to invest in and take the time to shoot. I need to spend more time with what I have now and not worry about what I could have! Thanks a million for everyone's feedback!

No problem ArmedG, find yourself a nice mag pouch and 1-2 extra magazines for your shield. Some make a pocket style magazine holder to save on belt weight/space. Also maybe look into getting a tlr-1 for you glock for the house.
