Glock = Anna Kournikova

Dan,

Never met a peasant woman or a fashion model. Your analysis of the two weapon systems is pretty accurate though.

1911's have style, class, history and beauty.

Glocks are reliable, durable and simple.

For 26 years I carried 1911s. Now I carry Glocks. Even old dogs can learn!

Having a few guns I can only tell you guys what you already know.

Apples and Oranges.

Can the glocks be made as accurate as a custom 1911. Almost with the proper components.

Can a 1911 be as reliable and hostile evironment resistant. Yes it can be done.

Me, I like them both for different reasons.

I have not yet found a Gun I can say I like so much that all others are crap.

Most guns ( Jennings et all excluded ) will do their part if we do ours. Some will require more effort than others but at the Ransom rest they all do pretty well.

I'm thinking more like Monica Seles - not really that good-looking, but so impressive on the court it makes her sexy. Or maybe in-between her and Anna - say, Gabby Sabatini.

PLEASE do not offend my Pit Bull with that comparison.

As for the apples and oranges comparison, how many competitions has a Glock shooter won? How many with 1911s? Enough said.

So the 1911s (and tennis rackets) are good for playing games... I'll go along with that.

But if I want to defend my life, (and kill a bee) I'll reach for something better, a Glock (and a fly swatter)!

It's all about using the right tool for the job.

Make mine lean, mean, and 9x19!

Imitation and jealousy are the sincerest forms of flattery. The markets flooded w/polymer guns trying to capture a share of what Glock has.

Steyr M40/FN49/Sigpro/Sigma/Beretta 9000/Kahr/HK USP(yes I know they were 1st,but their attempt failed miserably)Ruger/Walther/Taurus ect.

Next to the 1911 there isn't another pistol that has generated so many copy attempts, and even some of them are now going polymer. But unlike the 1911, Glocks don't need to visit a custom pistolsmith to exhibit life saving reliability. To me, this is Glocks best asset.

A defensive pistol must first & foremost go bang everytime the trigger is pulled.I've never experienced a failure of anykind w/the 4 diff. Glocks I've owned.I'd rather stay alive w/ my "ugly" pistol, than be buried w/ a "pretty" one!

Glock = Martina Navritilova. Plain looking (homely). Accomplished. Good power, technically sound, no flash, gets the job done and then some. Definitely not for everyone's taste. Time is past.

Walther P99 = Anna Kournikova. Gorgeous on the verge of budding into beautiful. Offers initial promise but needs further opportunities to prove self. Great lines, designed for a new era, new style and technique. Best years lay ahead, not behind.

Personally I'd rather be banging away with a Kournikova than a Navritilova (pun strictly intended).

You know I get a kick out of the guys that say glocks are perfect. Its Glock marketing, plain and simple. Glocks are niether perfect, nor the best. They are pretty damn good tools, but they are not all that.
If Glocks were perfect, you would not hear about the KBs and my 21 would not have locked up with rounds in the mag.
I like Glocks, but gimme a freakin break.

I agree with the guy who said learn to shoot whatever you have and it will be OK. Either the 1911A1 US ARMY or Colt Gum't Model is a good 45. The Glock 45 has too big a butt for most folks. For a 40 S&W or 9mm, Glock can't be beat. either the Colt or the Glock will both shoot as long as the pistoleer does his part. :)

OK, those who are from the Church o' Glock need to check their faulty logic. Just because Glocks are the most popular doesn't make them perfection. Microsoft Windows is the most popular, and anybody who has ever worked on unix knows that Microsoft is so far from perfection it's not funny.

So those are horrible arguements.

I see the Sig like everything else that the Swiss make, precision fine instruments. You know what I see the Glocks as? Well, I recently went shopping for a skillet. There were some nice shiny ones, the ALL-CLAD (1911's), the expensive calpholons (HK's), and then there was the cast iron skillet. Ugly as hell, but lasts a lifetime, and does what you need it to do... So since this is a thread of analogies, there's mine.

Man or women, neither is perfect.Nor is anything made by them!

I have owned and still do own other pistols, and I like them as well. But for me, right now,Glock combines most of the assets I want in a handgun. That being said,I'm very much interested in the Steyr M40, as I like the added safety & egronomic features it offers.Once the bugs are worked out, this will be very close to my ideal pistol.

Glock is a very poular, well made, reliable/durable defensive tool. There is no denying the fact the other gun companies agree w/this,as polymer pistols and pistols w/short dao triggers and stricker mechanisms are all the rage in the gun industry, that was the point of my original reply. But at the same time, that does not make Glocks the right choice for everyone.

Some people make it sound like a crime to show pride of ownership for a Glock, and say we are fanatics that bash everything else.Well, this thread sure wasn't started by a Glock lover, and I'm not the one suggesting brainwash, faulty logic, and marketing conspiracies. Now who's bashing.

Stay safe & good shootin'...long shot!

Had em both. They have lots in comon:

Handles well, strips easily, likes a little warm oil on the soft patches, tight chambers, feeds anything, gobbles everything, multiple blasts with lots of flash.

What's not to like? :)
