Glock 43

Glocks tend to be one of those guns people either really like or really dislike. Ever since I first shot a Glock 20ish years ago I have been on the Dislike Glock side. I recently handled a G43 at my local dealer then a guy at my local range had one and let me shoot a magazine through it and I was impressed. Just to see if my "Glock Dislike" had gone away I shot the Range Officer's G17 and determined, YES, I very much dislike Glock. However this little G43 impressed me. I am thinking about buying one.

Any thoughts, input from people who own one, have shot one, Glock lovers or fellow Glock haters?

I'm a fellow Glock hater, but I have to admit I kinda like the 43. It's probably the only one I would ever buy, honestly.

What is it about the Glock that you dislike? Being that you like the G43, I would guess it has to do with the grip on their double stack pistols. Other than width the G43 is very similar to a G26. I didn't care for Glocks at first (aside from the G36), but warmed up to their double stack line after picking up a G26. If I didn't have a preference for DA/SA, Glock would be my next choice though as I shoot them better than any similar handgun. When the G43 was released I didn't even give it a second thought because I can easily conceal my G26 with a tshirt. However, I'm sure it is a good gun.

I had a chance to shoot the g43 side by side with my glock 26. It felt great. It basically felt the same as my g26 but a tad snappier due to the decreased weight/size. Me and the other guy shooting were both really impressed. If it had 7 or 8 round mags i would pick one up but i am probably going to pick up a g42 for deep concealment because it a bit smaller

I never cared for owning a Glock either. Always appreciated them as reliable, nearly indestructible guns....but never wanted one. Then I shot a Glock 43.

It's now my been my carry gun for the last three months and love it. I put the S&W 649 in the safe, and really enjoy the narrower, lighter, and higher capacity of the Glock.

I do like Glocks, but Im not going to bother with the 43. Maybe theres some sort of reverse psychology thing going on there. :D

Seriously though, I have a couple of 42's and they pretty much convinced me not to bother. I have a couple of 26's as well, and prefer them. The size really isnt all that different, and the 26 just has more to offer.

With the 26, I get a larger mag capacity, and mag compatibility with the larger guns. I carry the 26 in the same manner Id carry the 42/43, so thats not an issue.

That said, those little 42's are amazing shooters, and will keep up with the full size guns out to about as far as you shoot them. They are accurate, and very soft shooting compared to most other .380's. Ive handled the 43, but have not yet shot one. I would expect they shoot just as well.

Dont let the Glock grip thing throw you off to much. I used to be a die hard 1911 fan, and I still am, but Ive moved on. Once you shoot them a little bit, you get used to the grip, its very natural, and easily adapted to. I switch back and forth from Glocks to SIG's, 1911's, and a few others all the time, and have no troubles doing so. Once your brain gets used to them, it naturally and quickly readjusts when you switch up.

For me the biggest thing I don't like with Glocks is the handle angle. I have no issues with the width of the double stack as I own 3 XD'so and love them. For me personally the handle causes me to shoot high. I'm sure I could overcome this but why would I want to when there are so many other quality guns in the same price range that I shoot fine? Of course a lot of it is always ego. Much easier to blame the gun than my skill level. There are millions of happy Glock owners, I'm just not one of them.

My wife has a Glock 43, I have a SIG P938. Comparing the two guns.

SIG P938: slightly smaller, better trigger, better sights (tritium night sights), better recoil management if you put the Hogue rubber grips on the gun and use the extended magazine.

Glock: lighter weight, cost less than the SIG.

Reliability: equal between the guns. Neither has had a malfunction through 1,000 rounds.

If you like the Glock 43, then buy one. My advice would be to look at a number of small 9mm guns before you make up your mind. In addition to SIG and Glock, there are very nice 9mm's available in that size from Ruger, Beretta, and Kahr.

Well I got over my "I hate Glock" image and am now the owner of a G43. I'm off to the range. Thank you to everyone who shared their experience, thoughts and advice.

I bought a Glock 17 about 15 years ago. Then added a Glock 19. Shot a friends Beretta 92FS, sold both Glocks and bought a Beretta. But now, that 43 is tempting me for carry use. I just might try one again.

I'm seeing a pattern here that very much makes sense. Those who like Glocks in general seem to have no interest in owning a G43 and those who dislike Glocks in general are interested in the G43.

I am a Glock fan AND i have a 43:eek:

I had a 42 for a while, but when the 43 came out i traded up for the better caliber. I think the 43 is a great hot weather carry gun. Shorts and tank top kinda weather. The thinner profile conceals easier then my 26 when clothing is at a minimum.

You give up a few rounds in the gun for that concealability, but if thats a trade off you want to make on a given day...

Well, around me at least, I can buy a Glock from a dealer and then sell it used for 95% of my OTD cost. Right now I can buy a Glock 43 new from a dealer (in stock) cheaper than I can get one used. The couple of Glocks I've sold have been the easiest to sell also. Pretty easy to purchase one when I know I'm out about the cost of a range rental if it doesn't work out for me.

I took my wife to shoot single stack 9mms at a range with quite a few rentals. We shot some double stacks also. The Glock 43 was her uncontested favorite and she did not like my 9mm sub-compact Glock much. The 43 felt better in my hand also.

Made my choice just the other day.

Comparing the G19 and the G43----I brought home another G19---the 43 was "ok" just not enough shots for my liking---I'll put up with the extra weight and bulk of the 19 for almost triple the ammo load of the 43.

I'm in the haters camp. I tried to like Glocks. I started with a Glock 30. Liked the gun and it's features, hated how it felt in my hand.

Traded the G30 for G27 thinking the difference in grip would be enough. Nope. I could probably get a grip reduction and then be able to operate it okay. But for the extra money there are other pistols that fit my hand at the same price point.

I've always wondered why the Glock grip is, for lack of better words, blocky. I have a S&W M&P .40. It holds 15 rounds like the G22, but the Glock just feels HUGE in my hand in comparison.

I was in the same boat with the way Glocks felt in my hand. Big XD fan here. However the G43 just felt great. Seems the majority of the posts here agree that the G43 is different from most Glocks. Maybe that is why I like it but I do like it. I have always considered myself one of the biggest Glock haters around. It really gave my ego a kick in the teeth to buy anything Glock but I stand corrected. Glock makes at least 1 gun I like and am very happy I bought.

I too prefer the .40 and like the Shield a lot but I have to say even as a "Glock Hater" I was very impressed when I picked the little G43 up and shot it.
