Glock 27, am I the only one who hates it?

I keep reading about all the positive posts about the Glock 27 and how everyone enjoys shooting it and how its the best CC weapon to carry. I have spent some time with a Glock 27 and YUCK....I hated it. The recoil and muzzle flip was so bad one of my buddies almost hit himself in the face with it from the muzzle flip. I found the gun to be very hard to tame and I was using a pearce grip extension with it. My hand was aching after a few magazines of shooting and my buddy traded it a couple of month later; I shot it more than he did! What's the trick to shooting this gun with any chance of a follow-up shot. BTW I had a Glock 21 and loved it, what a pleasure to shoot!

A firm grip helps. I found that my groups improved when I switched from the Weaver to the isosceles stance, which kept the recoil more symmetrical.

Yes.

Kidding...
I am not a big Glock fan. I get hate email calling me the beast of revalations because I am the Anti-Glock... I am known to endorse other guns over the Glocks. That said - I do endorse the Glocks models 26 and 27. They have a lot going for them.
There are few guns that offer full caliber with 10 rounds on tap in such a nice SMALL carry package.

No you are not alone.
I hate all Glocks.

Just as there is no such thing as too much fun,
there is no such thing as owning just one gun!!!

Off my meds (quit smoking), armed to the teeth, and loose on an unsuspecting society!!!

George! You are a beast! :D
denfoote, It is not wise to hate anything, especially inanimate objects. Its cut into one's fun time eh! :)

No such thing as a universl pistol that will fit all people. I like Glocks, although I prefer SIG Sauers. The sub-compact Glocks have a lot going for them, but if you don't like the way they handle the best thing is to avoid them. ;)

So many pistols, so little money.

No, your are not alone. I agree with you. I like glocks, but like Telecote, I prefer Sigs. I felt the 27 flipped way too much almost flying out of my hands. Although, I've never had the pleasure of shooting one with the grip extension.

Pish tosh!

I am a middle aged professor, of average size, who is not a physical titan and I can shoot a 27 just fine. It never it me in the head. I shot a 250 with a good group on the TX DPS test with ease.

Without the grip extender.

Just need some good technique and practice.
If you can't manage this baby, one might
spend some time with a qualified instructor to check out grip, stance, flinches and the like.

I love the glock, but, if it aint for you then it aint for you. Some guns feel different and shoot different for different people. There is always an exception to the rule one size fits all.
Besides, why would you ever want to limit yourself to just one hand gun (although this is a popular theory with my wife.)

I have to side with George on this issue. I don't particularly care for Glocks in general, as my point of aim and the gun's do not jive.

I am a major fan of Rugers, (OH NO, THE "R" WORD!!!) particularly the decocker P90. H&K USP's are nice, as are the Sig's, but they are more pricey than I like.

1911's are excellent if you get one that feeds JHP's reliably. I have a friend with a Paraordinance race gun that can only feed FMJ's, but it is QUITE accurate, pretty, and feels good in the hand.

This would be a really boring place if everyone liked the same thing...

I had a G27 for awhile. Loved the gun. It was accurate and relaible. Never noticed the recoil though. I thought fort the size it was controllable. Can't compare the G27 to the G21 though, like comparing a lightweight hunting rifle to a heavy barreled varminter.
Wish I still had the G27.

My dilema is i'm about to get hired by a police dept that issues the Glock 22 and I am looking for a good backup weapon! Common snese says to use a gun that takes the same mags and is the same caliber as your main duty weapon. Maybe if I hang a brick under the muzzle of the G27 I can shoot it a little better, cause I had lots of trouble. I'm an experienced shooter and a large guy with huge hands, and this is the only gun i've ever had trouble controlling!

27s are very popular as back up guns to officers' 22s and 23s.

If you carry one of the larger Glocks, the minis are the cat's meow. Even if you don't, they're nice.

I prefer Kahrs, all the same. But I wouldn't mind a mini Glock.

Although I had a Model 27, I got rid of it. A little to "thick and chunky"* for my liking.

Yea, i too used to bash Glock pistols. Then after reading and seeing such bantering over these weapons i went out and bought one [model 20 - 10mm]. After getting used to the trigger pull i had no problems with it for any reason. Glock was smart enough to have a pistol in 10mm offering,i use it for a duty pistol i like everything about it. It's light, very reliable, very accurate. I put a set of Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eights nite sights on it and replaced the plactic guide rod a Springco steel guide rod. It's all you could want for a combat type pistol.[IMHO] I just got back from the local pistol range and put 25 shots of Blaser 10mm 200 grain tmj at 25 yards in a 4 inch group using slow fire . Works for me!!

buzz nailed it

check out a G23....

You might want to look also at the older style checkered grips instead of the FG&R grips. The new finger groove style compacts (19,23,32) seem to crowd my pinky finger & rt. ring finger together too much.

I love the full size FG/Rail guns(17,22,31) but cant stand the FG/Rail compacts. You might feel the same way.

As a side note, if anyone has a G26/27/33 that they cant handle the recoil on I will give em $200 sight unseen for the piece of crap (and then turn around & sell it for $375).

PS - I love my G26 (yes it is ONLY a 9mm) despite the fact that my pinky hangs out there in space. I suspect that you could find light loaded 40 S&W hollowpoints for use in your 27 that would recoil less if it were that much of a problem. The 165 grain federal hydrashok at 980 fps/350 ft lbs comes to mind (if still available).

I agree with other posters about the G23. To me, the G26 and G27 are a fix for a non existent problem. I have a G26, that I bought without much knowledge of the Glock line. If I had to do it over again, I would have picked the G19. (And would gladly trade now for a G19 in like condition). Later being more familiar with Glocks I bought a G23 and haven't looked back. I even put a Pearce grip extender on the 26 and it helped with the 'pinky in the air syndrome' but the heel of my hand still felt empty. And, when you think about it you are only talking .5" slide length, and about that in the grip length with a grip extender. Oh well, like someone else mentioned, it would be dull if we all liked the same things.

THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB

Just sold my 27 (glad there was a buyer out there!). I have the 22, and just got the 19. I LOVE the 19 for ccw, and the size difference is insignificant for most purposes, but the longer grip makes it a peach, including fast reloads...no pinched hands. The same for the 23 if you like .40cal.

I think the 27 is a handful, and i don't consider myself recoil-shy. The 26 is more pleasant, and the 19 even better (or the 30).
imho.

George and Denfott: may a curse of a thousand fleas be on your camels....er, I mean...oh, nevermind.

I love my G27, but I am one of the only people I know who does. I find the recoil to be pleasant and follow up shot to be fast. It's one of my favorite guns, %100 reliable (of course, it's a Glock!) and extremely accurate.
I use the +1 pinky grip. For me it is a no-brainer. The pinky grip gives me more control, more ammo, and it does not lengthen the back of the handle, which is the important part of concealment. I can conceal my G27 much easier than my G19.

I got mine for a good price, used. I am sure the last guy that owned it didn't like the recoil. There is no need to buy a new G27, you can find plenty for good used prices because so many people hate the recoil.
I love the entire package, I think it shoots great, and don't understand people that think it recoils a lot, but to each his own...
