Glock 26 or 27 ?

Can anyone tell me how much more recoil the model 27 .40 cal glock had compared to the model 26 9 mm glock. I am considering buying one and wondered how much recoil the 27 had. Since it is a light weight pistol I was thinking that it might have more recoil. Yes I have shot both calibers before in larger handguns and noticed taht the .40 had more ump to it. I was just wanting to make sure before I tried a glock (for the first time) in .40 cal, that it would be one that I could control it and get back on target with. I would appreciate anyones help on this subject......

BIGR, I am a big fan of the Glock 27. I do not object to its recoil and you can do unlimited things to and with this pistol. Examples are: you can use a Model 23 magazine in it with an A&G magazine adapter and a Model 23 barrel with it if you want. You can use it with a factory magazine for deep cover. You can use a Pierce adapter to gain an extra purchase on the grip. It is accurate, well made, and doesn't jam. Buy the pistol. Regards, Richard.

Greetings, The 9m/m is one of my favorite caliber's of all time. But, with that said
go for the Glock model 27 in .40 caliber.
True, you will experience more recoil and
muzzle flip; but it is not uncontrolable. :(
I use my G-27 as my daily carry gun these
day's; under normal condition's. :D

I must confess to never having fired a G27, but I have owned a G26 for several years, and it is one fantastic piece. Far more accurate than it has any right to be, has NEVER jammed, tough as a anvil. I carry it or my G30 most of the time. A wonderful, wonderful execution of a small handgun firing a service caliber. I'm sure the G27 shares these same characteristics. You can't go wrong with either.

I have a G26 and have shot my friend's G27. I think the 40SW kicks a lot harder in the G27 then the full-size Glocks. Therefore, I recommend the G26 for its compactness, 1 more round and the softer recoiling 9mm. :D :D :D

Got both - the 27 is easily controllable.
But, that is individual. Rent each
and try them. That's the only way.

As far as stopping power, after studying the
issue, it is voodoo - a quality 9mm or
40 SW round - so what! Hope you can hit what you shoot at and 9mm is much cheaper.

As a first time Glock owner,I bought the 27 and love it :) I have shot the Cougar 8040 for some time and have no problem with the .40 cal. If you are thinking about the 27 and have fired the .40 you know about what to expect. Get the 27 you'll love it :)
Hope this helps :)
Happy Shooting :)

I can notice a difference in recoil between the G26 and G27... However, my main problem with both guns is that I can not get a full grip on it, as my pinkie finger falls below the heel of the gun. And that makes it more difficult for me to control. Yes, you can buy an alternate magazine floor plate that extends the bottome so that it will allow a full grip, but, in my opinion, defeats the purpose of buying the sub-compact gun to begin with... Make sure you try them out before buying to see how both guns feel for you...

I'd recommend a trip to a rental range or find a friend with each of the guns in question. I happen to have a G17, so I went for the G26 to stay with the common caliber. I've shot the G27, and the recoil is certainly "snappier" than the G26, though it's not uncontrollable. I think this boils down to a personal decision after comparing both pistols in operation.

I have never shot the G27. I am not a fan of that "odd" 10mm cartridge that was designed by a bunch of traitors. I am however a G26 owner. The recoil is more than acceptable. The gun is imminently concealable, and the accuracy is superb.
Buy the G26. :)

I have a G27 and love it. Get the one plus magazine extension and you have 10+1 capacity just like the G26. And without question, I like my defensive pistol calibers to start with the number 4. I'm not saying that 9mm isn't adequate--it's just that .40 is better. If you don't believe me, just ask the FBI.

BigR,
I have a question for you. How much experience shooting do you have and how much gun do you need.
Yes the G27 will kick more than the 26. But how much is too much for you is the question.
I have fired the G26 & G19, the G27 and G23. For what it's worth, BOTH the 26 and 27 actually seem to have less recoil than their mid-size counter parts.
Both the 9mm and .40S&W can be fine personal protection, but the 40 has a definate edge.
I have selected the G27 since, to me, the recoil is about the same as the mid-size 9mm, it is very accurate, for $10 you can put on the Plus One grip extension, which really doesn't compromise concealability since the leading edge is extended, not the back.
And lastly, even though with proper shot placement, the 9 can be a fine performer, I think if poop should ever hit the fan, even though I practice quite a bit, I think I would be stressed enough that my placement might suffer and I would want all the extra margin I could get.
Get the 40 and practice.

I was looking for a carry gun and evaluated several guns including the Kimber Ultra Carry, the Kahr MKs, and the Glock 26, 27 and the .357 SIG subcompact (can't remember model numer, 33?).

Personally, I didn't notice much difference between the 26 and 27. If I kept a good grip on the gun and followed the basics, both guns shot equally well for me. The 27 was a little less forgiving of sloppiness in proper grip, etc. - but it was almost too small to notice. Both models I shot had the Pearce mag grip extension (by the way, it doesn't really add that much to the pistol's grip)

I ended up going with the 26 because I already had several 9mms but I would feel equally comfortable with the 27. They are both as accurate as the full-size Glocks in my opinion. I also added the Pearce mag grip extension. I have compared the 19 with a 26 so equipped and the grip is still noticeably smaller than the 19 and easily concealable.

I chose the G27 as a carry weapon. I confess that I'm not that recoil sensitive, but I don't notice very much difference in the .40 cal and the 9mm. My G27 is extremely accurate. It makes me look better than I really am when I take it to the range.
I think the .40 is a great defensive round. I've equipped my G27 with night sights and I have one magazine with the grip extension. When I carry the G27 concealed, I don't use the mag with the extension. It digs into my "roll" ( :)) and makes the Glock more difficult to hide.
You can't go wrong with a Glock. Get the one you like the best!

I'm glad someone else brought up this topic. I've been wanting a .40 for quite some time now, but I like the affordability & availability of 9mm + the one extrra round.

All things being equal, I think I'd take the 40 (G-27). I'd keep it loaded with nothing greater than 155 grains though (probably Cor-Bon 135)... you're gonna need as much velocity as you can get.

If you'd like to shoot it a lot and enjoy yourself, the G26 is great. 9mm ammo is also 10% cheaper than 40 SW.

The G27 as I've said 100 time, recoils like the mule kicking you in the teeth. Notice all of the people saying it's "controllable." I get just as good if not better accuracy from the G27 than my G26. But I'd rather carry the G26 because I shoot a lot of 9mm.

BTW - if you reload, the 9mm is the safer round to reload. The majority of the kabooms were with the SW40 round.

I have owned both. The Pearce grip extensions are mandatory for controllability. The G27 version can be purchased with a +1 adaptor, so capacity is the same for both.

The 26 is much more controllable, but the 27 is more powerful. It's a personal choice. I prefer the power of the .40.

A thought: Check out the 19 and 23. With the grip extenders on the 26 and 27, they end up being almost exactly the same size as these models. The advantage to the 19 and 23 is that they offer 15 and 13 round hi-caps respectively.

If the same size gun has 30% to 50% more ammo capacity, it might be a better buy.
