Glock 23 or Glock 19?

I'll be the contrary voice here.

Unless you are already highly invested in .40SW ammo and .40SW Glock mags, I don't see much reason to go with the 23 over the 19.

Lower recoil, lower cost ammo, higher capacity, essentially equal performance with modern ammo.

Roger This, Couldn't have said it better!:)

My Gen3 19 might well be the most versatile firearm that I own, it really serves all the intended purposes, range use, EDC, car gun, HD, it's the Swiss Army Knife of service pistols!

I would go for the 23. New or used, there are better deals in 40. In the same size gun, you get a better performing round for SD. I think I am more likely to be judged by the effect of the first 5 rounds over the last 5, so I choose round over capacity.

9mm practice ammo is about $10-$13 per box. 40 is $12-$17. This should be a sizeable factor. I did just buy 40 for $22.99 per 100, so deals are out there.

Otherwise, they are the exact same gun!

Rodfac is perfectly right when he noted the Glock 23 outstanding potential as a dual caliber platform. After shooting both calibers with a Glock 23 gen 3 (9mm shot with G19 mags and Storm Lake conversion barrel), I can say that both calibers worked 100% reliable, not much of a difference in felt recoil but, double tap or 3 - 5 rounds volleys seams to be easier, faster and more precise with the 9mm. It might be a mater of practice though.
Having said that, the guns below work better for me than the Glock:

GLOCK 19

Go with the 19 and buy a case of 9mm and practice.
9mm is cheaper for range practice. Recoil is easier to manage both these will lead you to more practice sessions.

9mm is cheaper to shoot, BUT having the prospect of a .40 and a 9 with just a barrel swap isn't a bad thing.

I've got a 19 a 26 and a 36, I wouldn't say no to a 23. Its really just up to your personal preference.

Since i first posted on this thread that you should get the .40 and buy a conversion barrel. I went out and bought a glock 22 police trade in and have a 9mm lone wolf barrel on the way. in total I will have a full size glock with almost brand new internals and shoots two calibers for under $475. I am a huge proponent of getting the 40 and the conversion. It will serve you well. But i also have a 19 soooo either would be fine. Wish my 19 was a 23 though...
