Glock 19 vs. Walther P99

One for the Massachussetts folks.

In MA you can't buy a new G19, only glocks manufactured pre-98.

No problems with a NIB walther P99.

I have both.
I prefer the P99.
More ergonomic, more accurate, although its slightly larger, it conceals better due to its sleeker lines.
IMHO of course.

To answer your question "Which pistol do I prefer. I do like my P99 somewhat better than my Glock 17.

having shot both the p-99 and various glocks, my preference is the p-99 <and i own one>. but the glock is a close second, might tie first in my eyes if something could be done to the trigger, i just plain didn't like the feel of it. can't help it, got spoilt by the p99.

I own both the Walther P99 and the G19. The G19 was my first Glock back in 1988.
Actually I have two P99's (9mmx19 and .40) and 10+ Glocks.
I carried a G19 while in LE for nearly 5 years and have put many thousands of rounds down range thru various G19's.
I was the firearms instructor for my agency that headed the transition over to the G19 from another 9mm (S&W).
The G19 is one of their best models for LE, CCW, fun shooting, etc., etc. that Glock has.
Now, that being said, I recently "found" the P99 and after extensive range testing/use, it became my daily carry gun replacing either my G27 or G23.
Yea the P99 costs more as do "pre ban" mags for it but then one gets what one pays for.
BTW, I will be buying a third P99 shortly.

LOL!

Dawg, that's very funny. I'm not assuming anything. But what do people do who carry .45's that have only 7+1, or revolvers? Hey, if you're content spending a premium for an extra 5 rounds, that's cool. I'd rather carrry a second clip, if I felt the need, which is included in the price of the P99 (two mags of 10).

Sounds to me like you SHOULD move out of your neighborhood! :D

Rovert:

I'm trying to move out, but I can't find a neighborhood that's willing to let me move in.

The Glocks come with two 10-round mags. I prefer to carry two 15 round mags (my G-19).

Yes, they cost about $55-65, but they last forever (and Glock warrants them for life if they do happen to break or need a new spring - costs about a dollar to mail one to the factory). So if I assume a minimum 20 year lifespan for two $60 mags, that works out to an expense of 12 cents per WEEK (And at the end of 20 years I can probably sell the mags for a LOT more than I paid for them).

I may never need the extra rounds, but 1.7 cents per day is pretty cheap insurance.

Dawg, my point wasn't so much about the value of an 'investment' so much as making much about 10 vs. 15. Yes, capacity is important if you miss, but there comes a point where paranoia takes over, and carrying ammo goes over the top. It does raise an interesting question about how many shots one really thinks is necessary, though. What happens if you need 16 instead of 15?

However, if you buy me a few P99 hi-caps, and let me shoot your guns, there's room on the couch at my place. :D

I'll take 'em if they're given to me, but I won't spend 3x the price of a standard mag, just because some idiot passed a bill in 1994 that helps the criminals more than the civilians it was intended to 'protect'.

Owning both....I have to say that I prefer the P99 for the reasons already stated. Ergonomics, and accuracy. While the P99 looks larger than the Glock midsize guns (19, 23, 32) it really isn't. Close overall in every dimension. The holster problem is getting much better now, with both leather and polymer holsters getting much more available for them.

BTW...shamelss plug...I have a heckuvadeal on a lightly used .40 Interarms imported P99 in the for sale section......

Rovert:

What if you need 11 instead of 10 ? :D

If it's paranoia to want the full mag (the ones that the "idiot passed bill" have tried to take away from us), then there are a lot of paranoid self defense trainers running loose around the county.

Adding to the paranoia list, there are a lot of LEO's carrying full capacity mags. Wonder why they don't just carry the 10 rounders. :D

Forget the investment part. That's just lagniappe. Think like a boy scout - you know, "Be prepared".

p.s. There's also a certain level of satisfaction in using mags that Klinton tried to take away from us.

I have both. I, obviously, prefer the P-99. The interchangeable backstraps make the grip extremely comfortable. The shape of the grip seats your hand higher to the tang and allows better control.

The P-99 is more accurate for me, the new P-99 QA is really sweet. If you chose the P-99 go with thw QA. The P-99QA was Gun Tests Magazines Gun of the Year. And for good reason.

I prefer the GLOCK 19 because it is the smaller of the two and is, IMO, the most size-efficient pistol on the market. That said, the P99 is nothing to sneeze at; it is one heck of a pistol and I'll be getting one soon. Might take a while because I want to get a RR AR15 next. They run quite a bit of money ($6000).

YO ... nothing beats the looks of my P99 QA .... and i love the way it shoots .. of course the g19 is sweet .. no doubt .. but ugly .. very ugly ..
WHAT LEEJ SAID .... !
