Glock 19 vs. Glock 23

I own both a G19 and G23; I prefer the 9mm over the 40 S&W round but for a single handgun I would go with the G23. Why? I have both a 9mm and 357 Sig barrel for my G23. The 357 Sig is a hoot to shoot. Regards, Richard:D

G23 Baby! If you get tired of the .40, you can get a .357 Sig barrel, and use the .40 mags. If you want 9mm, get a Lone Wolf Dist. 9mm barrel and some G19 mags.

Note about the change to 9mm. Most people have absolutely no problem swapping only the barrel and mags. For absolute reliability, the extractor (or is it ejector) can be changed to the G19 piece.

It's about as broad as it is long.
The guns are close fraternal twins.
I had a G19, and foolishly traded it away.
I had trading fodder, but all I could find was the G23.
I'm good with it. :D
At some point, I may convert it to 9mm, but, for now, it's fine just the way it is.
Besides, I have "nines" out the ying-yang and only two "fotays". :D

Get one of these I have a 19 i just got not in this pic I do have a 23, and a 23c, a 22,27,26,21,30,30od,39,37,go with 23, then get the 19

You won't find our guys in Iraq wanting a 9mm

There are guys in Iraq using 9mm, specifically the G19 with great success. Ya can't always blame the hardware for software problems.;)

Check any of the .45 vs. .40 threads and the .40 S&W recoil is described by all but a few as being "snappy". I call it "time off target". The 9 mm is much easier to shoot well. Unless you spend a lot of time shooting you'll find it the same.

You couldn't give me a .40 S&W. It does nothing a 9 mm or a .45 ACP won't. That doesn't mean I find it worthless - it'll still stop a human being; I find better ways to do that with existing hardware.

Hey thanks for all the responses, I was out of town and was without a computer.

I still havent made up my mind. I would like to go with the .40 for the bigger bullet but I want to 9mm for the cheap ammo...decisions decisions.

The 9mm conversion barrel seems like a good route to go because I cant afford both.

When I was working, I had the Glock 23 a few years. It operated fine and shot well. My only complaint was I cared more for the 45 and was tooled up to reload it. The 40 S&W is a fine round, I think netter than the 9mm for stopping an assailant.

I know this is an old thread, but I own a Glock 23 and LOVE it. I also own a Springfield XD 40 and XD 40 compact. So I am invested in the .40 S&W.

I have a couple of friends who are Colorado Springs cops and we have been at the range with their S&W 9mm and my .40's and they both say the same thing...

"Well, yeah... the .40 is a better round, but if you put the 9mm in the right place, then you won't need it".

eh... I don't practice as much as a full-duty police officer, so I'll take the extra stopping power for the same weight.

It's the Glock 23 for me... or the Springfield XD 40 / XD 40 Compact.

I agree with Chui. I bought a Glock 23 about 3 months ago. I traded it in on an M&P 45c about a month later and haven't regretted it. I like shooting the .45 much more than the .40. I love that size in the Glock, though, if I get another Glock it will be the 19 (or possibly 26)

I own both. They are the exact same size in all respects. I practice with the 19 as it is cheaper to shoot, and refine with the 23 to make the adjustments needed as it has a bit more punch. I carry the 23. I will give up the two extra shots for better stopping power.
