Glock 19 vs 21-did I miss something?

I'm confused when you say 147 gr. 9mm is snappy or harsh....I haven't used Speer Lawman 147gr. but I can't imagine it's that much different from the Fed AE 147 gr. ammo.
Just saying what I feel from my gun. Speer was snappier than Fed and WinT for me and all were harder than the 115gr offerings. I agree with the accuracy comment though and ordered a case of the WinT from targetsportsusa. I still have a stash of Remington UMC 115gr I'm working through and it is noticeably milder than the WinT.

Just saying what I feel from my gun.

It is what it is then. If you ever get a chance to shoot those rounds through a heavier gun like a CZ 75B or a Gov't Length 9mm 1911, the recoil might not be as noticeable.

The only way I would carry one would be it was issued and the ammo was supplied. In that case I guess I would carry whatever they would want me to carry. You might guess I am not a Glock fan. The one I have is a Glock 36 which I don't carry but it is fun to shoot. It is the one most Glock lovers don't like.

I have a small collection of 9mm Glocks. My 19 is a Gen. 3, so I get brass to the face a lot more than I'd like. On the good side though, the 19 functions perfectly with the 33 round magazines, and of course, with the 17's.
I thought it would be my CCW gun, but I'm too fat to fit it IWB. That led to getting a Gen.4 26. Then I decided that I don't need to carry all the time anyway.
If I were doing it again, I would NOT have 5 of the 15 round mags for the 19, as I do. Better to use the 17's as spares, and carry a 15 in the gun because it fits better for carry.
As for ballistic advantages of 9 vs. .45, due diligence is in order. Check this story for one cop who found that shot placement is the whole game:
http://www.policeone.com/police-heroes/articles/6199620-Why-one-cop-carries-145-rounds-of-ammo-on-the-job/
His opponent was hit 14 times with .45 cop ammo before he gave up the ghost. The cop was on his very last mag of .45, having started with 47 rounds. Now, he carries 145 rounds of 9mm.
I shoot only hand loads in my Glocks. My defensive load clocks 1,400 fps in the 17L, and drops to 1,250 in the 19, with a 124 gr. JHP. That's still heap big medicine.

I have no reasonable response to this. The 45 Auto has a significantly higher recoil impulse.

Recoil will be tempered significantly by load and weight. The G21 weighs much more and your 45 load was likely a low end 230 FR hardball load.

Still, no way that 45 recoiled less than any 9mm load.

All that said, I'm glad you liked the G21 in 45. It is a great gun except the width. It always shot well enough for me. Their long slide is narrower...

Maybe you need a G21 in your safe!

Try it.

The Glock 21 slide is much heavier than the Glock 19 slide. The recoil is very minor. Far less than a 1911.

G19 vs G21 = apples and oranges. It's not just about felt recoil, it's big and slow vs small and fast. We can all argue which is best but no one will argue that they aren't different. However, if you want a little excitement in your shooting, take a G21, add a 24# recoil spring, and load in some standard SAAMI level 200grn 45 Super loads.

Smee is correct. I'm on my wife's forum but the fnp and finx 45 are bulldozers with no snap. 3 - 15 round mags of 45 ammo. My wife doesn't like hand gun recoil but has dumped 3 mags back to back with the fn. I've got arthritis in my hands and thicker glock although not much hurts my wrists after a mag or 2. Fn no issues. Unlike the jerk up of a snappy 40 the 45 gives more of a push into the palm. Trigger reset on fn is way better also. I've found a few fnp 45s for around $525.00 new finx at Ga gun store on line around $650 give or take and better if its fn sale day.

My G19 shoots nicely---never have shot a Glock .45---never have cared for how fat they are--so doubtful I'll ever own one.

Have had a few .45's in the past--1911"s--Ruger P90---HK USP--Smith M&P and never thought .45 recoil was all that bad---till I shot my current .45, a Beretta PX4---now that thing bucks like a snake bit banshee---I was really surprised when I first shot it based on my past .45's and most online saying the PX4's are soft shooters.

G20 is not to be feared, it is to be loved :)
10mm is a serious round, and does require a wee bit of forethought in the application,
as it will blow big holes in whatever it impacts...and sometimes multiple objects in line...
hardball use is for experienced pistoleers only, but that's why they make Hollowpoints!!

G20-sf is a very controllable package :)

The more mags, the merrier...
hrm, need a new pic, as its wearing a 9" Lone Wolf threaded barrel now.
It has transitioned into my favorite Hog-Hunting machine..

I have been shooting .45 since I was like 10! No need to be afraid. Ha. I think my Dad put like one round in and let me shoot a can. There was nothing left of the can.

I have always had respect for that round, then bought mostly 9mm more for capacity, but now going back to .45. Not getting into debate of which is better.

g20 is not bad either. I can see why this is a favorite round, but I don't use much. It can be very powerful.

So, to the g21. I love it. Have a 3rd gen in my desk with 2 13rnd mags. My only issue is its a bit wide for ccw - which I am completing soon. So I am heavily looking into g41 mos. Thinner frame even though longer but is less weight? We will see. Starting to use reading glasses so option of the red dot ability to mount when I want is awesome.

My love of Glocks has been passed down from my Dad. Love their engineering and robustness. And I can take the ENTIRE thing apart with hardly even a tool (chrome (so does not scratch) square bit that was laying around). Excellent.

I would definitely add one.
