Glock 19 gen 4

What range ammo is good for a glock 19 ? I'm talking about low price ammo. What about carry ammo for after I get my carry permit . That ammo I am not worried about the cost .
Glock has been praised to feed almost any factory loaded range ammo. Visit your local Walmart and look for Winchester White Box 115gr or Federal 115gr. I would stay away from steel case (Tula, Brown Bear, etc) just because it can be harder on the gun and gum up the action. Save your brass even if you don't plan on reloading, it's a good bartering item.

For carry ammo, you will want to buy a small quantity of a few types to ensure reliable feeding in your particular gun. Once you are satisfied with one, look for a sale and stock up a few hundred rounds (minimum). A few good options are Hornady Critical Defense, Speer Gold Dot, or Federal HST. I've had good luck with sgammo.com

As far as range ammo, you should be able to shoot whatever you want. I've shot the cheapest junk you can find, and my glock 19 eats it like candy.

As for carry ammo, I like federal HST 147 gr. It's hard to find, but it's some of(if not the) best carry ammo in the market today.

I had issues with my G26 at the first range visit. It would not reliably feed 115gr FMJs, but I think it was due to the tight magazines. After my first trip, I haven't had anymore problems.

If you do not mind the feel of the Gen 3's, they are still a great handgun. I wanted the option to adjust the backstraps, and I also got a killer deal on my Gen 4. You also get an extra magazine, and the larger magazine release is nice too (not so much on the G42).

I did have an early build Gen4 G-22 that did give me the "BTF", the 336 ejector was replaced with the newer 30274 unit, the new Gen4 guns have all the updates but there are a fair number of used guns in circulation that may not have been updated. I have a Gen4 G-21 that I bought new almost 2 years ago that has been rock solid since day one.

Another decision that has been thrown in the mix was after going to my gun dealer, deciding on my 19 gen 4 (black) he pulled out a grey, fde models as well. I can't get that fde out of my head even though my wife says its the ugliest color gun she's ever seen. Hahaha but I kinda dig it !!!!

Gen 3 vs Gen 4

I have more rounds through my 19 Gen 3 than my Gen 4 and I will say I shoot the Gen 3 better for some reason. They both have night sights and 3.5# connectors. I do prefer the mag release on the Gen 4 and the additional grip extensions but as I said the Gen 3 is one of my favorites.

I'm 2.5 years & ~1400 rounds into a 2013 Gen 4 G19. She has not been "Perfection," but she's been very, very good. For range use, I buy the cheapest brass-cased ammo I can find and have had few enough problems that I can count them on one hand.

Overall, I have would call it an excellent choice for a 1st handgun, perhaps only 2nd to a .22 pistol.

I owned a Gen 3 Glock 19 years ago, and never had any issues with it. I currently own a Gen 4, and it has been flawless so far as well. I do like the texture on the Gen 4 better, and with no backstrap installed, it fits my hand perfectly.
