Glock 19 Feedback Please

I am thinking of getting a Glock 19 this week. I have a Kahr MK9 for CCW and want to stay with a DAO. The G19 will be used as my "cold weather CCW piece." I live in the Southeast.

Is the G19 REALLY as good as all the atricles say? I have never shot one, but it felt excellent in my hand with the finger grooves.

I am considering modifying the G19 with MMC's and replacing the 5.5-pound stock connector with the Glock 3.5-pound connector and New York Trigger module. Possibly a titanium guide rod and 2 high capicity pre-ban mags.

Night sights are a no-brainer but is the trigger work and titanium giude rod worth it? Where do you get the parts?

Or, is the G19 like Sig's, out of the box ready with no work needed at all?

Bring it on Glocksters!

Regards,
Hann

Glock 19 is a great all around gun. I have a 23, but it's a matter of preference. The only change I've made to mine is the installation of a LaserMax. Not necessary, but very cool. Fairly accurate, too.

Go with the nightsights, and maybe the 3.5 trigger, if you like. I've heard that each are a 5 minute job. From what I've heard, replacing the guiderod doesn't do much. Also, get yourself some nice leather and some hi-caps.

I own one, I would also suggest getting the rubber grip. I think houge makes them. If you really want to know go to www.glocktalk.com But they will only tell you the good things about glocks.

Hann, I know you are looking for feedback but I have a question myself. What does the 3.5 stock connector and the NY trigger module gives you? What is the new trigger weight if it changes? Thank you.

I have come from being a Glock 9mm skeptic in 1985 to getting one for my daughter--who just went through Gunsite with it. Also ran many LEO qualifications with 17s and 19s. (Also did 2 Glock armorer's classes.) They are excellent guns for personal protection and very user-friendly.

The only thing I changed on her gun was to put plain low-mount Novaks on; also put in a 'plug' to keep fuzz out. Would not recommend rubber grips as they add bulk and drag, may 'print' or slow up the draw. Would otherwise keep the gun stock and skip aftermarket stuff as it is just not needed. The factory pull is usable as is and would also leave it alone.

If there had been a better gun for my daughter's purposes, I would have bought it.

The New York Trigger is a modular unit that takes your trigger pull weight to, I believe 8 pounds. The New York Plus takes it to 12lb. pull weight. The G19 is one of the best pistols on this here planet. My first pistol ever was the G19.

I have owned my present G19 for about 18 mths (bought it new). It is third gen and came with nite sights(meps). When new I had to go with an aftermarket recoil rod and 15lb spring to shoot my range ammo (Ga Arms 124gr FMJ). Ammo was too lite to cycle the pistol. After 900rds I was able to go back to the stock spring. The 10rd mags from Glock were junk (so much for "Glock perfection"). I had to replace the followers with 9mm-1 types and replace springs with Wolff+ and now the mags cycle 100%. I also purchased several hi caps which all functioned well. I bought a drop in Bar Sto which did improve accuracy some and was 100% reliable but I have recently sold it and gone back to complete stock on the G19. The front nite sight went out in less than a year and I have not bothered to replace it. I don't understand why everyone goes with the 3.5 trigger as I find the 5.5 great even for target shooting. All in all the G19 is not perfect by any means but is a great pistol.

I too own one. Yes, it is as good as you have heard. It does make a pretty good CCW piece, although I prefer the G26. I have the stock trigger on it only because I am contemplating going back into security work. The addition of the 3.5lb trigger and REDUCED POWER trigger spring emulates the cocked and locked 1911A1 very nicely IMHO.

I have the Glock models 26, 19, 17, and 34.

All have factory 3.5 pound connectors and standard weight trigger springs. I've done a bit of polishing myself and they each have trigger pulls that measure just over 4 pounds.

They all wear PT night sights, and the newer style, Glock factory, extended slide release.

I've never had a problem with any of my stock recoil spring guide rods, but if it makes you sleep better at night...

To me, the G19 is every bit as good as its reputation. Mine performs fine in every respect, so I've left it just as it came from the factory. In fact, my personal rule is that the best Glock is a stock Glock. A possible exception is night sights, which I've been tempted to get, although with my vision the original standard sights are easier to see--unless totally dark, of course.

JMHO. :)

I bought one about 10 days ago. Went to the range last Tuesday and poured about 150 rounds through it. (Would have been more, but I did about the same amount through my G21)

I love it! :D :D :D

I had the 3.5# trigger disconnect installed, and I think I will probably go back for the slide release that's found on the 34's and 35's. I am considering adding the grip tape (not a slide on, but the non-skid stuff) and night sights, but don't know yet. Three-dot sights really screw with my eyes, so I'll be looking for something a little different in that department.

You won't regret buying that pistol.

Bob,

As an alternative to 3 dots, Natchez Shooter Supply www.natchezss.com has the PT night sights like these for $64.95

Also have the 19.Accurate right out the box
(tupperware).About 700 rounds thru it now.No problems.Would like to have night sights installed. Can't go wrong with this one.

I believe that the 19 is the best all around carry piece that there is. Make sure that it fits your hand comfortably;it does mine, but there are those who don't like it. As for after market, most of that stuff is not necessary. Get some factory hi-caps, some night sights and a quality way to carry and you will be set. Oh, and you may find that you prefer it for warm weather carry.

Hann - Glockmeister has titanium guide rods on sale now for $15. Also nite sights on sale. Look under their specials.

It's a good sidearm, you'll like it.
I've had and used mine for several years, although I've gone to a 27 for carry.

Advice? Invest in one or two good hi-cap mags. Keep the 10 rounders for practice, quick reloads etc. And, heed the warnings about shooting lead.

Properly cared for Glock 19s have an enviable reputation for reliability and durability. Of course there are lemons, but compared to other brands these are few and far between, and if you do get a lemon, Glock will make it right. Check out this article www.remtek.com/arms/glock/model/9/19/index.htm

I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to rely on a Glock 19, and I would if only I didn't like the Glock 23 so much more.

Leave it stock. Check out www.glockmeister.com for excellent information on cleaning and lubing.

i love my G19. it has over 2000 rounds thru it and has been extreemly reliable. it is also very accurate and feels great in my hands. its a 3rd generation frame and i'm planning on getting an M3 light for it soon. here in NJ we can't CC so i use mine for home defense.

the G19 is ready to go nearly strait out of the box but i put a few things on mine to personalize it a bit.

i installed a G17 smooth trigger since i prefer the feel of it over the serrated trigger that comes on all compact and sub-compact glocks. then i put in an extended slide stop since i'm a lefty and it helps in locking the slide back (i don't recommend this for righties since you should use the slingshot method to close the slide). i also have a Deep6Comp plug in it since it is angled in towards the mag well to help in loading mags. i also have meprolight night sights which i prefer over trijicons but i think nightsights are really needed in a gun that will be used for defense.

you shouldn't restrict the G19 to a cold weather carry gun. with a good holster you can conceal it under just a t-shirt. i prefer kydex over leather and a blade-tech IWB would do a great job of concealing a G19.

i don't think a titanium guide rod is necissary. glock knew what they were doing when they designed these guns and i try to put as few aftermarket products on my guns as possible.

also i don't have any problem with the standard 5.5 # connector and regular trigger spring but if you want to make the pull more like a DA revolver then an NY trigger spring is the way to go.

i ordered the new trigger, extended slide stop and plug from glockmeister.

Hann, I have 5 Glocks, but the G19 is my main carry gun. It is as good as 'they say' Of course, mine only has about 6,000 rounds thru it, without a single glitch. Just get the night sights, and skip the rest.
