Glock 19/23 or CZ P-07 Duty???

I have been on a quest to find a good gun for CCW. The Glock in the midsized 19/23 platform and the CZ P-07 Duty seem to fit JUST RIGHT!!! Unfortunately my local ranges do not offer a rental program so that I could try out either one of them.

I know Glock has a long history of reliability but CZ has a good reputation as well. I read an article about a torture test done on the P-07 and it seemed quite impressive. Of course now it was in a CZ Magazine so it could be slightly biased.

My question is, are these two guns come close in a comparison or is there none at all and one completely outshines the other? I would greatly appreciate an analysis from folks that have had some experience with both platforms.
 
I qualify with the Glock 17/19 every year, Expert or Distinguished Expert, part of the Job. I would pick the P-07 over the Glock every day and twice on Sunday. Personal experience, the P-07 is more accurate, easier to shoot, and offers some things I like, like a decocker OR safety, switchable by the user, whatever you like better.
I have to say I would recommend an undershirt when carrying the P-07 concealed, as the aggressive checkering can be a bit harsh on skin - but come rain, snow, sleet, ice, that gun will NOT be coming out of your hands! I have carried the P-07 concealed, and would recommend the High Noon Slide Guard rig for OWB, or the same outfit's Down Under for IWB.
I might be a wee bit biased, but I have used both, and would pick the P-07 hands down.

This is based on my personal experience, nothing more, nothing less.

Both of these pistols will serve you well. But one may serve you better than the other. It depends on what pros you like best and which cons you can live with.

The Glock 19 is light and simple - it's a great duty gun because the fit and finish is pedestrian and meant to be used. The P07's fit and finish is likewise.

And while they are both in the same general class (mid-sized, polymer frame) they diverge when you consider the firing design and trigger. One isn't better than the other - but you may prefer the features of one over the other.

Personally, I prefer the P07 with the DA/SA trigger and decocker or safety option over the Glock.

Don't stew too much over not having shot it. Best way to really get to know if you like a gun or not is to buy it and shoot it for awhile - (it's really hard to tell if a gun will do the trick on a public range shooting at paper.)
 
Like the above poster, I qualify distinguished expert with Glocks. But, I've shot several hundred rounds through the P07. I could do the same with it. It's really just a matter of preference. I prefer the Glock simply because the grip is a tad longer, and I have bigger hands. I just barely get my pinky around the P07 grip. Make it about a quarter of an inch longer and my opinion might change.
 
I would definitely go with the Glock. As far as which I would choose between the 19 and 23, that is totally a personal preference. The 19 will be cheaper to shoot obviously, but the .40 is a great round as well.
 
just made the trade myself from the p07 to the g19. i just liked the overall ergonomics better on the glock. both are wonderfully accurate and a good size for carry and accuracy. the p07 has some sharper lines on it, which make it slightly less comfortable to carry. also, p07 had a strange slide rail groove. all of my other guns have rectangular slots for the slide rail. the p07 has an angled groove that looks like it may wear faster. it also only runs over a short section of the overall length.
 
After years of shooting my CZ 75BD, I just can't get used to the weird Glock grip angle. When I try to point shoot with my G21, all I get are fliers over the target, especially at our matches. Takes intense effort for me to push that front sight back down.
 
Many years ago some relatively high speed, low drag acquaintances of mine in the true sense of the phrase mentioned that they felt the Glock 19 was possibly the best / most versatile combat pistol made. Me, not being a Glock guy, and frankly, not having anywhere near the experience, scoffed.

Many years later, I am still stubborn and extremely low speed, high drag but have come to the conclusion that they may be right. The Glock 19 offers a mix of, reliability, simplicity, capacity, concealibility, durability and price that is hard to beat. Is it "perfection"? Not so much, but it is a damn fine serious social piece and I wish i would have paid more attention years ago.

I am just an interweb idiot who has been blessed with the opportunity to shoot lots of guns but the more I shoot, the more I realize 2 things. Fun guns are rarely the most practical and it does occasionally pay to listen to those folks who know of what they speak.

Now if I could only learn to put those little pieces of lead where I want them to go.......baby steps. :D
 
had to send my cz 75 back twice. gave up and bought a springfield xd. spend the extra money buy a glock or an xd
 
What's interesting is the number of people who have stated they actually have shot both firearms is split evenly, 2 for, 2 against. Interesting.
I have to throw in, have you tried any other CZs? I carry both the P-01 and the Phantom, great pistols.:cool:
 
I couldn't give you a favorite. I have a G17, G19 and G26 and a CZ P-07. I'm good with the Glocks because it's like pointing a finger but the CZ just feels great in my hands and it's subconscious reptilian brain aiming. Like Dugan Ashey says about AK's, "It's like Pop Pop, Like Chop Chop".

Most of the time I carry the G26 when warm and shorts or jeans in T-shirts. When it's cooler out or when I'm wearing my MC club colors I alternate between my G19 or my CZ. And carry a Diamondback DB9 as a vest back up.

I relegate my G17 as a saddle bag gun with my Kel-Tec Sub 2000 since they share magazines and as reloads for my 19 and 26.
 
The Glock and CZ designs are actually my favourite 9mm pistol platforms. I prefer the all metal CZ's over Glocks based soley on aesthetic, ergonomic, and material preferences. I actually just sold my trusty G26 to scare up cash for a new CZ-75 Compact a couple days ago.

However, the poly P-07 vs. G19 is a little different argument. Ergonomics might lean towards the P-07, but for CCW use in a IWB holster the G19 might be *slightly* better due to having so few protrusions, and melted edges.

That said, if I was going to AIWB carry either one of these, I would probably go with the P-07 due to it being hammer fired. The ability to 'ride the hammer' with your thumb on it while re-holstering the weapon, which is pointed at your crotch/femoral artery, is a definite plus. If something accidently gets caught in the trigger guard during re-holstering, the P-07 will not shoot if that hammer can't move back. On any striker fired gun, you wouldn't know it was about to fire until you heard a 'BANG'...
 
Hard to go wrong with either choice, but both are great. Depends on what fits you best. Trigger system will be the biggest sticking point, striker vs DA/SA are quite difference and dependent on preference.

For what it is worth, the P07 has replaced my Glock 19/23 as my EDC.

I love my p-09 so much I'm hoping to add a p-07 to the collection.

I'm the opposite, I like my P-07 so much my next full size 9mm will be the P-09 :D
 
I have extensive experience with each and choose the P-07. It seems to be more accurate and every bit as reliable. It's functionally the same size.

Choose the one that you like more. One isn't better than the other (just different) and both are very good choices. Anyone telling you that Glock is so much better or the CZ is far superior should be tuned out. These are both quality and respected guns. Buy confident, whatever your choice might be.
 
I'm curious what the OP picked, seeing as how he asked the question 3 1/2 years ago. ;)

As for the original question, I'd have to say Glock 19 only because I don't have a P-07. Yet.
