Glock 17M

It does hold up well. I like the older "frying pan" finish the best. I have one that has the NiB-X treatment and in terms of wear that is basically none, but I find it develops a sort of patina like nickel jewelry would.

For me I like how flat the frame is around the slide. The slide stops are minimal and it really lets me get my support hand up against the frame.

I had a sort of bizarre discussion with a gentleman online the other day that was angered by the 17M and considered it a cheapening of the design because of the traditional rifling and lack of finger grooves . Glock gave the FBI what they wanted in terms of those changes, something many people wouldn't have bet on Glock being willing to do. I've said in the past that the ability to use the same magazines, same holsters, and not need to retrain the armorers and agents extensively makes this a government purchase that is, imo, logical. The Glocks can be made here as well. I see it as a win for both the FBI and the taxpayer.

They just work. Oddly they seem chunky but as TR has pointed out, the area where the slide mates with the frame is relatively thin as is the slide itself. The controls are also unobtrusive as he points out. Additionally. some of the competitor's in this contest have grip frames that can be distorted when squeezing them hard. I cannot deal with that.

Time to sell all of the existing stock and re-buy them ALL!!!
No... this is just the lowly FBI's pistol.

What you really want is the super-elusive, super-exclusive Navy SEAL pistol... the all-powerful Gen 3 Glock 19!!!

Already got one from when they were new... oops! Not much of a joiner am I?

That second picture does a good job at pointing out that the flared magwell isn't really that flared, it's more a matter of lighting in the first picture.

Interesting. Only one pin in the locking block...

IIRC, the origional Glock 9mm's only had 1 pin thru the locking block (original design). It was the intro of the 40 caliber guns that saw the addition of the extra pin.

Is it true they will be issuing standard pressure 147 grain Speer Gold Dot ammo? That's what I'm reading. If true, I will be curious as to how it performs.

See:

for a review on the Speer G2 147gr ammo which the FBI is apparently going to be using. Each agency might use different ammo and any specific agency might change ammo brands/specs at any time without it hitting the news.
