Give me the good, bad or ugly on Taurus

I have one Taurus, a 608, that I bought from a guy with less than 50 rounds through it for $200.00. It even came with a scope mount that I gave to a buddy as I had no plan to scope it.
I bought it because it was a deal and an eight shot might be fun to mess with. It compares favorably with my S&W revolvers of the same size and caliber although I'm not wild about the porting it has.
It's a good gun and has worked fine with the couple hundred rounds I've put through it. It's not a S&W but a darn good copy in my example. I did recommend it to my buddy when he didn't have the money for a S&W I suggested first. He and another friend have both been happy with theirs too.
I'm thinking now of buying a Tracker in .17 as my dealer has two for just over $300.00 new. Their .41 mag snubby has appeal as well to me.
If money is an issue or availability like the two above, I'd buy another Taurus and take my chance with reputed quality control and service problems.

I finally got my 85 back yesterday from the manf. for cylinder lockup problems. I sent it to them only a week after purchasing it back in Nov. I had it at the range and on shots 3 or 4, the cylinder, trigger and hammer would lock up. It was annoying. I only got about 15 rounds through it before I packed it up and admited to myself my new gun didn't work  I'm pretty ticked about the wait time...6 freakin weeks! And it better be worth it.

Like I said, I got it back yesterday and I'm going to try to get out to the range today. I've got the 85 all cleaned up and oiled. I tossed in my snap caps and practiced fired all evening long (while chilling on the couch) :D The DA trigger is a nice smooth easy pull, with no stack up and no hitch before the hammer falls. The SA is actually scarey short and light. You had better have it pointed in a safe direction because the trigger will go as soon as you even think about pulling it. Hopefully I'll have a range report at the end of today.

Well I said that I'd report back after I got a chance to shoot the 85, fresh from the manf for timing/lock up problems. I give it a good thumbs up. The barrel-cylinder clearance is actually within spec (and more than .0015) The DA trigger is very smooth and the SA is nice and fun. As for accuracy ( guess I could take the lumps for that), well, that was uh, not the prettiest at around 15 yards :o

Anyway, if this pistol keeps performing like it did today, its a keeper. It'd just be nice if they came straight out of the factory this way the first time.

As far as a gun store saying that Taurus was fine if you did'nt plan on shooting it alot.

I've ran over 5,000 rounds through my model 415, .41 mag

With '0' malfunctions

I have a Model 66. It's an older one, bought in the late '80s. The gun itself has been OK, except for the absolute run-around circus I had getting a new firing pin spring a couple years ago (the charged my credit card, completely lost the order and tried to snowjob me on it, all for a part that other companies would probably just send out gratis), and that the firing pin spring broke at all.

I a nutshell, there's my Taurus customer service rant.

The only non-S&W, Colt, or Ruger revolver I've ever tried or owned that I've found to be dependable was an old Astra .38 special I found at a gun show.
Apart from that, I'll never own a revolver other than the aforementioned brands.
I've not found Tauruses to be dependable at all.

I have a Taurus model 65 - ran about 400 rounds through it so far (I bought it used) and it's been solid as a brick shi*house with a variety of ammo and my own reloads.

Buying My First Taurus

In a couple of weeks I,m buying my first Taurus revolver.
Model 44SS4 Taurus Tracker 44 Mag. Stainless. 5 shot. 4" Barrell.

Anyone have one yet and how is their performance. Write up,s have been positive that i,ve seen so far.

I,m looking for a left hand belt holster, thumb snap style in color Black.
If possible in hi-rise holster design. Anyone help me with this?

Plan to hunt and wood carry Winchesters new Platinum 250 Gr. Round for this 44.
I.m tradeing in my Ruger Blackhawk 41 on it.

thanks, Boomerdog

I have a ten yr old 94 revolver

Not impressed by it at all. Currently my communist state demands shakedown money from handgun manufacturers so my ability to obtain many handguns I covet(read Mdl 445) is non existant. The general opinion of more recent production seems a lot more favorable than the piece I have. I'd be willing to give them another try.

Rojoe the Resurrector (of threads) - lol.

I've had no problems with my Raging Bull .44 mag 8.375" or my Tracker .45 acp 4", but then again, I've not shot thousands of rounds, so this doesn't tell us much at all, does it?

I currently have three Taurus revolvers, a Model 44 in 12" .44 Magnum, a 85ch in .38 Special, and a 4" Model 460SS Tracker in .45 Colt. I have put 3,000 rounds through the Model 44, which I bought used in March of 2004 and I have had the Model 85CH for over 5 years and have shot it every weekend for the last 5 years, I would have to say I have well over 5,000 rounds through it. Both of these guns are in great shape and shoot well. I have only had the Model 460SS for about 2 months now, I have gotten around 500 rounds through it. It is still in the break in phase. So far it is a dream to shoot, I love it. It is my favorite carry gun right now. I will admit I have seen some pretty bad taurus' in my time, but in the last 10 years, I have truly seen their guns get alot better. I say this and I own a number of S&W's and Rugers. Have fun.
