give me a reason to buy a P99

great, reliable gun

and pretty accurate too. i had one for about a year before i sold it to get my kimber. now i just picked up another walther....p1. something about that name just keeps drawin' you in.;)

The one thing that grabbed me about the p99 was its extremely quick trigger reset.

Most shooters who actually know what they are looking for find this to be true as well. ;)

I have many thousands of rounds thru several Glocks. I have a 9mmx19 P99 that I bought used. It is so smooth and fast that it puts even my best Glock tuned trigger to shame. :D

Does anyone know of a smith that can improve the trigger on a P990? Am wondering because I like the gun in every respect excepting for the the trigger. Perhaps I'm too spolied by my P-14 with a competition trigger!?! Walther, Wascho and Earl's were of no help what so ever re a competition trigger for the P99 series. Thanks ahead for any suggestions... short of selling the P99 and picking up an HK.

...decocker are all within easy reach

Rovert, do you have a finger growing out of the back of your hand? The P99 has one of the most oddly placed decockers of almost any gun currently made. How do you manipulate the decocker with your shooting hand?

Within easy reach my @$$! I really like my P99, but the decocker is one of the reasons that I don't love it.

I can decock with my right hand while holding the pistol. I normally shoot with both hands so the thumb in my left hand is there if I weren't able to use the right thumb.

Nobody ever lost a gunfight because they couldn't decock fast enough or smooth enough. If that is an issue, perhaps it is the only one that could be found.

poor little-handed-person. i could do it to. actually, i preferred to use my shooting hand. you guys are making me want another one. hmmm....maybe the od green one.....hmmmmm......:D

The P99 is an OK gun.
I regret buying one and I'm going to trade it soon.

It has a weird trigger take up.
It has a odd to reach decocker.
It has a mag release that can not be operated with your thumb.
:barf:
I don't like my P99.

I very much like my P99 (in .40 Auto and with an olive drab frame), and I pick up my second one later this month (in 9mm and also with an olive drab frame). The P99 decocker is completely snag-free, and as others have mentioned, decocking the P99 is not a task you'd need to perform under stress. It's something you'd perform between chambering a round and holstering the weapon. And, by the way, I can reach the decocker with my shooting thumb. I also find that I can manipulate the magazine release a tad easier using my shooting hand's index finger. JMC's comments about the trigger reset are spot-on. It's a keeper.

Waltere, it sounds like you should have bought a P99 (DA/SA) instead of the P990 (DA only).

Wierd.....I have no problem working the P99's controls with my shooting hand. Just rotate my grip a little bit, which takes no time, and my shooting thumb is right on the decocker if necessary, and I can swing it the other way just as easily to work the mag release, or as lunde said, use the shooting hand index finger.

Also notice I'm getting to aggressive on the trigger. It's so damn easy to do a quick double tap I find myself doing it almost by accident. Shame on me!

Blades67, no, I don't have a finger growing out of the back of my hand. I was tempted to reply with a tongue-in-cheek comment about being able to decock with another appendage, but in the interest of good taste, I decided against it. :D

All kidding aside, with a bit of practice, you'll find with a bit of a stretch of the thumb, and canting the gun, you can reach it with one hand. Truth be told, I really don't have occasion to do it one-handed too often, but the slide release, and mag release, are awesome. Although NotBubba doesn't like the idea of not being able to release the magazine with his thumb, I find the mag release ideally placed, and easily operated, with my index or middle finger.

I just bought one Saturday. Had it at the range Sunday. Trigger reset is incredible. So much so that it fooled me the first couple of times. I fired the first shot and slowly let off the trigger feeling for the telltale click. "Hmmm, must have missed it." Second shot, slowly let off the trigger, again no click. Third shot, instead of letting off the trigger I squeezed it ever so slightly and the pistol fired again. The recoil was enough to knock my finger forward for reset. With some practice I think it could qualify as a Class III :D. One malfunction which I am pretty sure was ammo (bad box of Win White). Have 16 rounders on the way from Gunbroker auction ($84). Life is good.
