hello there. I'm new at this forum and i've been reading alot about the p99. i have various handguns and have had a few more from the past. but some reason this p99 seems to
catch my eye. what is it about this gun that makes it a good buy. i shoot alot of
action matches aswell. how would it match up in production class ? is the trigger really
that great. i have handled one and vaguely remember how it shots from a loaner a few years ago. convince me if you really think its worth it ?

give me a reason to buy a P99

Browse thru the various threads here on TFL and you will find all the reason you need.
In the past few weeks the P99 has gotten a lot of press. ;)

All I can say is that I like this gun so much that I've got 6 of them. I use it for IDPA competition and do rather well. It has never failed me, unless the SO purposely makes it so the gun will fail. (he likes to stick a dummy round in our magazine, or set the gun up with a double feed, etc.)

P99

Ok, it's about time I chimed in. Here's my list of reasons, in no particular order of importance:
  • The best ergonomics of any polymer gun out there
  • Interchangeable backstraps to adjust those ergonomics
  • More features than most other guns out there, such as chamber loaded indicator, striker condition indicator, and decocker
  • The most intelligently placed controls I've ever seen on any gun, support one-handed operation, since mag release, slide release and decocker are all within easy reach
  • The best trigger pull of any polymer gun I've found
  • Both SA and DA trigger modes for enhanced safety when there's a round in the chamber
  • Accuracy that's scary
  • Reliability that's scary (not a single error in 2300+ rounds)
  • Eats all the ammo I feed it without a hiccup... Ranger Talon, Federal EFMJ, PMC, Speer Lawman, Magtech, Winchester white box, S&B...
  • Robust layer of multiple safeties
  • User installable nite sights
  • Outstanding fit, and finish, in terms of workmanship
  • Awesome price for the wealth of features and technology this gun represents, makes it one of the best bargains on the market
I'm sure that I've forgotten other reasons, but I'm sure you get the gist.

HTH.

Other than I traded my first one away and regreted it ever since. I aquired another one!!! :) My reasons are as follows:
  • 1) reliability
    2) ergonomics
    3) accuracy
    4) concealability
    5) it's a Walther!!!!! "nuf said"

I'd think once you've handled one, you'd be sold; the ergonomics are excellent as are the interchangeable grips to fit any sized hand. Also, Walther builds one of the best guns in the business.

thanks guys for the input, i will seriously consider it. after talking to the man EARL. i will be adding the p99 to my collection shortly.

give me a reason to buy a P99

There is no good reason to buy a P99. You can't get hi-cap with it.

ABSOLUTELY untrue and a misinformed statement. I guess you missed the never ending thread on just that topic?

And, they are pre ban in case you were wondering. ;)

All you have to do is be willing to pay the asking price for them.

Jim, although I agree with your message, we shouldn't be too hard on folks. Remember, not everyone realizes they're buying a GUN, they confuse the firearm with the toys and goodies that go with it. Probably the reason lots of folks buy Glocks. Not necessarily for the gun itself, but for the geegaws that go with it. When I go shopping for a handgun, I'm buying a GUN, not a MAGAZINE. :D

Rovert,

:barf: :barf: :barf:

First, you determine what it is that you need or want by doing your home work on the subject. Ask questions if required, read what has been written and then make your choice.
But by all means, get all the facts.
Don't just make a blanket statement because you heard something somewhere or don't know where to look for the correct information.

Me hard?

Heh, heh... ;)

I particularly like a statement in another thread recently that said 'don't buy a P99' without any intelligent reasoning behind it.

The Glock crowd despises the P99!!!!!

P-99'er,
Wait just a durn minute!!! I resemble that remark, only I adore my P99!!!!!!!!! ;)

I shot the P99 side by side with my G26/G36. The P99 was almost putting itself on target. It was quick. I played with the trigger, which was odd as first, until I got the swing of it. Man that is a quick trigger. I swear the double tap was like one shot-unbeliveable. I really like the interchangeability of grip housings and sights. I have owned, at one time or another, nearly all of the West German stuff, and this thing is a real keeper. Go get one, but shop around. Here in town, they were ranging in price from 599.00 to the one I bought for 420.00. It was used but not abused. Good luck.
