Give an LEO a Hug Today...

LEO's are here doing a job that noone else will do for their pay or perks. Here is one LEO's highlights for 1 week.

1.) Get to inform parents of beautiful 16 year old daughter who was killed by a drunk driver in a T.C. (his 3rd offence). Nothing compares to that joy.

2.) (10-15) an at least .25 driver and have him blow dennys and his evenings libations all over the back of a 3 week old cruiser. 2 months later interior still has that wonderful smell, albeit milder.

3.) Random 4-way on probationers house uncovers kitchen used for good ol' meth rather than chef boyardee for the 4 little filthy half dressed undernourished kids who don't know what os going on and why their "parents" have to go away.

4.) A 23 Y.O. overdose to follow-up on

5.) A good friend gets killed in the line of duty over a 230.00 robbery.

6.) Get called an ******* because you write Mr.Smartmouth in his P.O.S. Tahoe that will never get dirty a ticket for 45 in a school zone while he is talking on the phone.

Gotta stop that was just a mon. and tues. (borrowed from a close friend for this topic).

Wave to an LEO, Thank him for what he/she does and stands for, pick up his check at the cafe, when you see him eating his lunch there, anonimously.

Are you willing to put your LIFE on the line for someone you don't even know for what he is making? I doubt it.

If he/she is in a bad mood and snappy when he/she writes you that ticket that you know you are guilty of. Smile, thank him/her and wish him a nice day. Maybe he/she just had something like listed above happen to him/her. RESPECT these brave men and women, they deserve it.

If the job sucks so badly, quit. No one drafted them.

I thank the good LEOs out there.

The ones that give a bad rep to the rest of them deserve only contempt.

There are FAR more great ones than bad ones- and tons more good ones than bad ones.

Pro gun should never mean anti-LEO.

Erik

LEO: "That rifle is illegal, boy. You are going to jail."

Me: "Thanks for doing such a good and thankless job, Officer. May I give you a hug?"

My company has a policy of using off-duty LEOs whenever possible as security during our auctions. In the region I run, I use LEOS exclusively to guard the high priority areas where the money is kept. In addition, we sponsor a Little League team run by them.

I do what I can to help them. Most of my friends are LEO or former LEO. As in anything, there are bad apples. But, by and large I think that the cops are doing what they can with what they have.

As a LEO thanks siggy. And Arizona Eric you are so darn right, I wasnt drafted into this line of work or the Army, I volunteered for both. As far as my job sucking that is the most untrue thing I've heard today...course I just got up. Wow wonder how the family doing...guess I'll see them this weekend, you know strange hours and all. It seems to me from experience that those people who complain the loudest about us being there are also the ones that complain when we aren't. Its obvious that some one has done something to you morning coffee Ariz Eric.. The majority of LEO's are just normal people trying to do a job. We dont get paid as much as we should IMHO...but when we help someone or somebody says thank you...what do you need money for anyway...wife is the breadwinner...Oh yea I forgot to tell you Ariz. Eric...I love my job and I respect your opinions and if you ever realy need help call 911...Help will be on its way as soon as possible...Stay Safe...

For all you LEO's that deserve hugs, consider yourselves hugged. (Although if you saw me, you might not thank me.) And for those few who don't deserve hugs, have a hug anyhow, 'cause your mindset will never allow you to recognize your shortcomings anyway - and who knows, maybe a hug will help.

Erik, Siggy and the like,

Wish there was more out there like you guys. I'm not a cop. I'm a Volunteer Firefighter, but I have quite a few friends that are cops and we interact with them on calls. Nice to see someone who understands how it really is.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

Meaning no disrespect, but points 2,5 and 6 could and do apply to the kid behind the counter at "Burger Barf". I would no sooner hug him/her than I would a cop.

No hugs, but I will say "Thank you" and God speed, safe shift. Course, I would say the same thing to anyone, regardless of their profession.

depmur:
Meaning no disrespect, but you have paycheck and hours that many dairy farmers and retail "droids" would envy.

Hey Rich,

You missed one... ;)

...defend the 2nd., it protects us all.
No fate but what we make...

LEO's are the following:
1. They potentially put their lives on the line for the average John Doe (well at least a large majority of LEO’s do).
2. Under paid
3. Very Stressed
4. Work sh*ty hours
5. Get picked on a lot (including by me)
6. Are still human

Still, they pick their profession. Just like you and I pick ours. I respect farmers more then LEO's for their work. Does that mean I think LEO's are dirt? Naw, not at all. Just a farmer's life is much tougher (at least in Lancaster County, PA).

I chose my life... military, college, now engineer. I am your stereotypical white-collar worker.
8am-9am coffee and read emails.
9am-10am meeting.
10am-10:30am break and complain about how the day sucks.
10:30am-12pm actually gets some work done
12pm-1pm lunch
1pm-3pm more work being done!!!
3pm-3:30pm break
3:30pm-4:30pm more meetings
4:30pm-5pm read more emails then go home

75% of the white-collar workers in the corporation I work for has the same schedule I do. We employ 70,000 world-wide. The factory workers bust their ass daily. While we sit there and gripe and complain.
Our schedule sounds easy enough don’t it. Well it is :D I love my job and I chose that path. I could’ve easily stuck with the military and lived a tougher life and accomplished much more, but I did not. If anybody should be bashed, it should be us. We are paid a ridiculous amount of money just for having a college degree. Bash us instead of cops. We deserve it. Give LEO’s a break. Geezus, they go through enough sh*t.

Also,
I won't hug a LEO coz I'm a guy. If it was a nice looking female LEO... just kidding :D

I work in a pawnshop and have to deal with leo's everyday most of them are great guys. They are underpaid and don't deserve half the carp they put up with. People spit on them curse them kick them(when they can get away with it)etc... Funny thing I was told that leos and firefighters get paid the same. One is loced and one is hated. The officer is just trying to do his job and in todays society where every F*cking person thinks that THEY are the victim, and the leois the bad guy.

My hat is off to all the LEOS, even when I get pulled over for the occasional speeding ticket.

If I approached an LEO with a big grin and open arms, I'd likely wake up in the hospital. :D

I can't say I've ever had a really bad experience with cops; hell, I even conversed civilly with the local ATF AIC at a forum some months ago. T'was a bit of a struggle, but I managed. ;)

Anyway, my point: most cops are good guys, yes. So please, good guys... try to get the lamers out of your ranks, huh? :)

Do cops have an exclusive on long hours, percieved low pay, dealing with people at their worst?
I doubt it.
Are all of them powers of good, with the best interest of everyone they meet at heart?
I doubt it.
Do most of them want a hug?
I doubt it.
Do most of them want a bashing?
I doubt it.
Do most of them want to be left alone to do thier job? Given recognition for accomplishments and having their shortcomeings explained by someone in a position to do so?
I wouldn't doubt it.
It's their job to enforce the law, and it's my responsiblity to live within the guidelines set forth by society. See the difference here? It's their JOB, and my responsibility. Everybody here whines about rights, but seldom mentions the responsibility that goes along with those rights. My rights end the moment I 1.)Die or 2.) Step outside the guidelines set forth by the society in which I have chosen to live. Period! Rights are not a debateable point, they are, to quote "Endowed".
Every cop, good or bad, does the same job function. They enforce the guidelines. It's how they do the job that counts. That same broad brush that spells a falling feeling in your gut when you see flashing lights in the mirror, also paints the feeling you feel when those lights flash behind your disabled car. If you want to hug a cop, that's your problem. If you want to bash a cop, thats your problem. Myself, I'de just rather say "thanks for a well done job if it applies and God speed".

What's the penalty for hugging a cop?

Would I have to kiss him/her too?

Would there be tongue action as well?

I mean, I appreciate their work, but...don'cha think a hug goes too far?

Well, I have hugged an LEO (not today however)but he is my brother and best friend so I guess it probably wasn't the LEO I was hugging.

Now for somethng that has pi$$ed me off too many times. LEOs do put their lives on the line for the rest of us. The problem lies in the liberal's attitude that says that they should; that somehow an LEOs life is worth less than their pathetic existence because they refuse to take responibility for their own defense. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

If you're not a little upset with the way the world is going, you're not paying attention.

Tonight when I went off duty my six year old son was the first one at the door with a hug. That's good enough for me.

To paraphrase George Orwell:
"People sleep safely in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Several good replies...RAE and 224 most notably. I realy appreciate the fact that we are able to have our opinions and can voice them without fear of reprisal. My hat goes off to farmers and I seem to remember a few years, ok maybe more, back stacking hay for money....that was work... I realy think that at times I'm overpaid...I have fun at my job and could/would do it for less, maybe. The mention of fireman and LEO's being paid the same....whew we all know that fireman should get paid a heck of a lot more...I dont mess with fire...What about teachers another "underpaid" occupations. Oh and white collar workers getting all that money for their education....thank god for them also, my wifes one and her salary allows me some of my vices...Stay Safe
