• Anything ‘published’ on the web is viewed as intellectual property and, regardless of whether it displays a copyright symbol or not, is therefore copyrighted by the originator. The only exception to this is if there is a “free and unrestricted reuse” statement associated with the work.

In order to protect our members and TFL from possible litigation, all members must abide by the following new rules:

    1. Copying and pasting entire articles from another site to TFL is strictly prohibited. The same applies to articles from print or other media, and to posting photographs taken of copyrighted pages or other media.

    2. Copyright law provides for “fair use” of portions of a copyrighted work. You can copy no more than a SINGLE paragraph from the article to your post (3 or 4 sentences at most).

    3. You must provide a link to the article along with the name of website. For example: ww.xxx.yyy/zzz (The Lower Thumbsuck Daily News).

    4. You must provide, in your own words, a brief summary of the article AND your reasons for believing it will be of interest to TFL members. Failure to do so may result in the thread being closed or your post being deleted as a “cut and paste drive by.”

    5. Photographs and other images are also copyrighted. "Hotlinking" of images (so that it appears in your message) from other sites is also prohibited unless you own rights to the image. If you wish to share an image, provide a clickable link to it.

Posts that do not follow these new guidelines will be altered or deleted by staff. Members who continue to violate this policy may lose their posting privileges at TFL.

Thank you for your cooperation and your participation in TFL, the leading online forum for firearms enthusiasts.

The subject of censorship on a hobby forum comes up for many diverse reasons. I've been banned for touching 'off topic' issues, but not for the same reasons.

For example, I love science fiction. However, most sci-fi nuts are younger guys, and primarily leftist in their views. In one hobby forum there were three of us with conservative opinions--and a gallows sense of humor.

Guess what, I got banned. And I wrote in the same manner I do in this forum.

And I've come to realize that it's not what you write so much as how your opinions rock-the-boat with forum owners.

Oh, sometimes I've literally asked for it. It was a noble fight that I'm still very proud of.

However, if you are polite, you can debate even hot-button topics and you can ultimately win the respect of your most ardent detractors.

I will offer this advice. If you discover a board that simply trips your trigger into anger, and we all know many, than simply quit going there.

Certainly their are forum owners who are posers, but you're not going to get the last word, simply aggravation. And in turn, your own credentials might be questioned--been there, done that.

It's just a computer. Turn it off.

Do You Have A Life

Hal, you're new here, but you still read the rules, right? No personal attacks. EVER.

To address the actual purported purpose of this thread (and not read between the lines) if you think someone is putting one inappropriate post into an otherwise good thread, hit the report button on that thread and tell the moderator why you think that post should be removed.

Why I participate

My reasoning for pledging 'The Firing Line'

1. Decent Folks
2. Decent thoughts
3. Responsible Thinking
4. Hard-headed Opinions
5. Belief in Decency
6. Respectful
7. Well Rounded Tables
8. Dignity

My Personal investigation before I entered; I do not enjoy trash
'I' do not want any part of Dis-Respect of any one
'I' will not spend any time with Trash

Selfish and to the point: 'I' am glad to be here.
