Getting started with AR accessories

Try to keep it as simple as possible.

More things just add weight if they arnt actually serving a purpose. I usually only have a VFG and an optic, sometimes a light. The vfg only serves as a handstop and a good point for steading my shots off of cover.

Ive seen people with lights, lasers, bi-pods, foregrips, redots, magnifiers, and microred dots all on one rifle. Super heavy and unwieldy(slow), and much of that stuff was only utilized maybe 5% of the time.

KISS is key.

I would suggest only an EO Tech, Aimpoint or 1-4x scope for starters. Things like a vertical grip make the gun harder to benchrest.

The rail you linked to is junk. Sorry, it had to be said. Personally, I would avoid a rail system, unless it gets you something specific you really want. They can be pointy!

Also, I would keep the front sight base. It is the most reliable fsb which is key to the gas system.

A trigger is a nice improvement. Armalite and RRA(ADCO improved) make cheap, but good enough replacements.

I would keep the basic stock unless it is giving you some issue.

I recently bought an AR and have been looking at accessories, I realized I need to take it slow, and not get things because they look cool,

M&P 15 Sport Magpul MOE parts

Plus buy extra mags and lots of ammo.

The first thing I added to my M&P 15 was a CCI sling attachment on the buffer tube then a spec ops single point, next was mags and then a rail that attaches under the bottom handguard along with a MOE front grip. I have a Eotech 550 on the way and the rifle is done.

IMO, the best thing about the AR is it's versatility-the use of a high quality quick release scope mount allows a 1 minute change between a red dot scope for HD or a rifle scope for hunting/range.

American Defense makes an excellent mount and the XPS Eotech's come with a 1 lever quick release-each of these return to zero on re-installation.

Mags and ammo should be your first purchases. Buy good mags like Magpul P-mags or aluminum mags with an upgraded follower. Stay away from the stock GI mags. If I looked at the guns specs correctly you already have a Magpul BUIS which is gtg. Start shooting the gun with open sights first until you are proficient with it.

If you want to upgrade the handguard so you can run a verticle grip take a look at the Magpul Moe handguard. Its only about $30, and its very light. You will just have to buy some rail sections to attach the verticle grip to. I also like to upgrade the pistol grip. I prefer the Magpul MIAD but thats just personal preference. There are dozens of options out there.

+12 (if my count is right) for PMags. Love 'em. Non-tilt follower and the mags seat a lot better than the GI ones. I'm sure there are some good aluminum or steel ones out there, but $12-$15 gets you a proven product. Not too bad.

Stocks and grips are personal things, some just seem to fit better than others. Just don't throw money down on cool-looking stock just because your buddy has it. It might fit him, but not you.

my opinion is that unless you are either a moron, redneck, or mall ninja there is no reason at all to need a 4 rail handguard. there is nothing wrong with owning one but seriously try holding a carbine with a flashlight, a reddot, a laser, a bipod and a forward pistol grip and try saying it's not awkward. now having a rail is not necessarily a bad thing and every once in a while it would be nice to add a bipod or long eye relief optic so I recommend if you want new handguards, go with a free floated tube. it will increase the weapons inherent accuracy and if you really want all the stuff to go with it there are a number of tubes that can have rail sections added to them so you can still have the nice ergos and mount your goodies too. IIRC troy industries has one that is just a top and bottom rail and RRA has few options that are half tube half 4 rail.

Funny, but that's how my issue M4 is dressed up. Well, I did not have a bipod.
