Getting out of the semi automatic game!!

There's a very simple solution to this problem.
Give all the 9mm ammo to your son-in-law, along with the pistol.
Then, if you still want another revolver, just get one in a more natural caliber.
How about a .44 special?

Unless you have a lot of 9mm ammo and just love the caliber, I would go with 38spl in the LCR personally.

As far as 22's go, I would look for a S&W M17 or 617 and get something premium. The Ruger SP101 is second best.

I went the opposite route, I used to own only revolvers, now I own all semi autos. With that said my next purchase will most likely be a .45 Colt Ruger Vaquero.

HAY XD I am 74 and I shoot my S&W & Dan's all wheel guns. Yesterday my grand son went throw around 250 rounds of 38 357 41 Mag & 44 Mag it was 48 with a wind of 5 to 10 mile per hr. First for us this year scoped his 308 and my BM AR. I love my wheel guns.

I like my S&W 940 and Speed Six 9mm and have thought about adding the Ruger LCR but havent found a used one yet. Theyare excellent 9mm wheel guns, you could also look for the S&W 547 (depending on your budget). As for the 22 revolver, I like my S&W model 18 but if I were to buy new then it would be the Ruger SP101 4" with 8 rounds and adjustable Hi viz sights its hard to beat. Good luck on your new additions.

I have thought long and hard today about all your suggestions. I am now leaning hard towards the 9mm LCR and the SP101 .22LR. BUT, I am also kind of swayed by the selling the 9mm ammo and buying a .38 LCR. If I go this way, I will get the LCR-X, otherwise it will be too similar to the 642 I already own.

XD. Speaking of .22's. I have a Charter Arms Pathfinder that I really enjoy... The 4 incher....

Take a look, you might find one of interest.. Not the fanciest girl at the Ball.... But she won't disappoint you at the end of the dance either...

Wheelie,
You are the first one to mention the Pathfinder. I have viewed those on the Charter Arms website, but you are the only person I semi know that has one or has actually shot one. Please tell me more about yours. How is the trigger?

XD - I have a couple of Charters... An Off Duty in .38 Spl. DAO, and the Pathfinder. i like them both. And carry the Off Duty quite often. Triggers are fine, a little heavy at first but seemed to smooth out with use (or I just got used to them). Nothing I'm going to complain about.... And I feel they. Are well worth the money spent.

I must add that I had an issue with keyholing on the Pathfinder, tried several different types of ammo, same thing with each... I emailed Charter, heard from the owner within 24 hrs. Dropped it off the next day (I'm only a few miles from their facility) they were able to troubleshoot, repair and I was able to pick up in just a few days. Also got a tour from Nick Ecker, the owner, and was very impressed with their customer service and efforts to make it right. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again. The staff was great, very upbeat....answered questions, were knowledgeable about their products and what they were doing... Mr. Ecker knew everyone by name. I was impressed.

During the tour, I got a glimpse of their repair locker which amounted to... MAYBE 4 or 5 revolvers in for service. I took from that that problems are the exception, and not the norm.

Hope that answers some questions for you.

Not sure, but they MAY have a 10 shot Pathfinder now.... Mine is the 6 shooter.

Good luck with whatever you decide on!

I'm one who's owned a number of semi-auto's in the past. Glock, XD, Smith & Wesson, a Beretta, Colts, Rugers....and probably a few more I can't think of off the top of my head.

I don't own any today. Just revolvers. So I can understand why the OP might want to go revolver only. I don't dislike semi's. I just like revolvers better.

But if I had a thousand rounds of 9mm, I'd probably just keep a 9mm semi long enough to shoot up that ammo. I've just never had any interest in a revolver chambered for what is traditionally a semi-auto cartridge.

Having said that, if I did want a 9mm revolver, I don't see why the Ruger LCR wouldn't do the job. I recently looked at one in 38 and thought hard about it, but I'm a Smith & Wesson guy at heart, and got a S&W J frame instead. No logical reason at all.

For a 22 revolver, Smith & Wesson of course makes a good one. As does Ruger.

The not as common Dan Wesson 22's are really nice, but heavy guns. Those are my personal favorite 22. I've owned a half dozen, sold them off for one reason or another, but keep being drawn back. Man those things shoot. They're not cheap, but they're not in Smith & Wesson/Colt territory either.

On the other hand, I'm a big fan of the old High Standard Sentinel line of 9 shot, alloy frame guns. Those are nice guns, and fairly inexpensive if you can find one. And they are as light as a feather. Good plinkers too.

Each person does as they like. I personally have a few auto's I love. I have some revolvers I love. It kinda depends on my mood as to which I like better on any particular day. I know for myself, that my preference will change , no matter which is the current favorite, so I have something to scratch the current itch available. They all have their strong and weak points. I never say I'm going this way or that, and every thing else has to go! Doing that almost alway's guarantees I'm going to have to have whichever ones I got rid of.
