Getting old and still reloading

I forget stuff.
I can't see stuff.
I can't find stuff.
I spill stuff.
I get grumpy.
And the range. I hate people sitting next to me and shooting.

But I gotta keep going, because antelope season is upon me. When i am too old to hunt, I will have left is TV and ice cream.

I'm 50 and I just started. This hobby makes me feel young again to be honest. My high school football coach showed me how to reload back in 1982 and he helped me dial in my 30-30 and 30-06 for deer hunting.

I always wanted to reload but didn't have the money for the equipment and was busy raising kids.

I still don't have a lot of money but I do have the time now. It took me 35+ years to find something constructive to do with my time and extra money and I couldn't be happier!

Hang in there, growing older is just a normal process. I am 70 in two months and reload and shoot and still enjoy it very much. I do a lot of reloading during the clod snowy winters and then shoot all summer long. I do shoot pistol indoors during the winter also. The key is to stay active.

You old fart. , so you were that S.O.B. shooting next to me. No really , I'm with post #3 but I think you will still be shooting. Just remember to bring the ammo. Be Well you big baby. Chris

You guys got a long way to go to catch up to the old guy. Just because some young folks say you're old doesn't mean you are. Shucks! Don't pay any attention to those aches and pains that's just life. Stick with the firing line forum so we can continue to pick each others brain. I've been loading since about 1978 and never did get board with it. I'm only 65 but this forum keeps me much younger.

What's in your loader? :D

Don't forget about going to the gym.
Exercise can help keep ya' going long past age 70.
When things hurt, it's all to easy to just sit there and do nothing.
Don't.
Pain is Mother Nature's way of reminding us we're still here.
Thanks, Ma'.
I still reload and shoot, even if it's just at home with airguns.
It all counts.

Well acquainted with father time.

I have now deliberately slowed down my usual reloading sequences and double check for accuracy, etc.

Just about stopped sporting clays due to vision problems but can still knock down pheasants.

Cannot use open sights but thankfully for red dots...keeps me in the game.

Don't give up or give in.

I'm a cranky old bastard...
Takes me a half hour to get out of bed, and about an hour to get moving...
Too many injuries down through the years...

Took up bow shooting because stretching a rubber band in phsyical therapy seemed a waste of time. Not very good, but at least its not counter productive.

Since I have to do a lot of phsyical therapy, I tend a LARGE garden, gardening beats a 35 mile drive to PT, then stretching for an hour, driving 35 miles home...

We probably have 5 years of food home canned in the root cellar, and I lost 60 pounds eating clean food instead of taking (legal) drugs and processed crap...

I excercise my brain, try to learn something new every day.
I don't read fiction, I get textbooks when I can, if I watch TV its documentaries,
And I listen to a lot of NPR.

I learned to garden in raised beds, build the beds, to pour/finish concrete when building the house and other projects around here,
I learned about stand alone (off 'Grid') solar power, both electrical & thermal, while powering up my little homestead...

Put about 250 miles on the Harley this week, visited a cave system, found a couple nice gadgets at junk stores, and Im going on a half day canoe trip today...
All with a back that's been broken in 5 places, two fused vertibra, one artificial hip and two artificial knees...

Its all your state of mind, turkey season is coming, deer season is coming, getting the garden partly closed down for the winter, and leaf mulch season is firing up soon, that's always work, but you can't beat leaf compost for cheap, clean fertilizer...

I will get up and work until Im dead, then I still have half a dozen things to do!

Getting old ain't for sissies. But it beats the alternative.

Slow down take some more time if you feel things are getting away from you. Just a suggestion, set you press up so that it does almost everything for you and all you have to do is pull the lever/handle.
I forget stuff, it happens. On the bright side "brain farts don't hurt" they just give you -crappy thoughts.

I still have my reloading equipment and supplies in tubs when we moved last spring but I have a lighted and air conditioned shed to do it in when I get everything unpacked.

Being older is not so hard, the issues that come with it is the tough part.

Memory and medical issues have slowed me down some but I'm not giving up.

Yeah!
Cant see, fingers are not as nimble and joints hurt.
Can’t take more than 75 - 100 rounds of light 44 mag and some days less that 50 full bore mag rounds.
Don’t even want a 500 S&W anymore.
But dang I love shooting and reloading.
Pass the ice tea and adivl.;)

What the heck do these have to do with getting old? Im 37 and I suffer all of the aforementioned, my time must be near, has been for a looong time. Dont give up, you crotchety "old farts" are a big part of why I love shooting so much. I prefer the company of folks more matured than me, alot less BS and alot more experience. Cant recall exactly where you are but I know you're near, maybe Ill pester ya front the next bench over. :D

I don't mind getting a little older( just turned 62 ) but I'd give anything for some 18 year old eyes. When I was 18 I could tell the difference between a swan and a snow goose on the horizon back in North Dakota where the horizon was a long way off. I think the only reason my older brothers drug me along hunting was my ability to spot game just with my eyes. Now I struggle to see the sights on my handguns for a decent shot.

Hang in there guys. Better to wear out than rust out. I enjoy reloading-it's therapeutic. I'm somewhat young yet and appreciate hearing veterans take on things.

Wow, did I just walk in to the McDonald's on a Sunday morning... LOL. The grey hair club there talks about aches, pains, doctors and medical bills!

I've got no room to talk as I'm getting there too. I'm in my 50's but it won't be long.
