Germany bans pit bulls

My "attack dachshunds" are actually about as dangerous as the Easter Bunny (Shhh. Don't tell them; they don't know they're only 4" tall.).

My doxies think the same thing! Actually, my smallest one is tough. She gets in the face of any dog she doesn't like especially big, mean looking dogs. I'm convinced she'd go after a badger w/o hesitation. On the other hand though, she's the sweetest thing to babies, kids and people--good or bad, pretty or ugly. Okay, enough bragging about my dachshunds.

It's all about responsible ownership. If a dog gets loose and causes problems, punish the owner! Damn, what's so hard with that concept?!

That's funny, because my Pit Bull thinks he's a cat. Once, he walked past a little chihuahua that was barking like crazy at him. He just wagged his tail at the little dog and kept walking, his big ol' tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. (I think his tongue was bigger than the other dog) ;)
He used to harrass one of my cats by poking the cat in the side with his nose, trying to get the cat to "attack" him. One time, the cat's claw got stuck in his nose! He just stood there, wagging his tail!

My sister took her daughter to live on a dairy farm where my sister worked. The owner had a Doberman. My niece rode the dog like a horse, using his ears for reins, and led him around by the lips. The dog's respons: much tail-wagging and nudging my niece for more... Go figure! Wierd dog. Wierd niece.

The Other Wakal

You have to get the bigger picture here- the owner of the pitbull who killed the boy, has offened various laws ( against drugdealing, weapons, bodily injury ) 18 (!!!!) times.
In the US he would have gotten a lifelong sentence due to "three steps.." a long time ago. But not in Europe- here everybody gets another chance and another and another...

Criminals are considfered so poor- and under the socialist-greenparty coalition in Germany you can't mention that the offender is a 2nd generation foreigner too.
Moreover it's just another move against things normal citizens can use to defend themselves.

Lake, the difference is that if a 10-pound Spaniel grabs hold, I could punt him across the room. Not so with a 60-lb bull.
I understand the whole "freedom & rsponsibility" thing, but why do you think we regulate/outlaw rattlesnakes ? wolverines ? cougars ?
Would you welcome a neighbor who kept mountain lions on the other side of a chain link fence from your kids ?

A horse or bull is whole lot more dangerous than a dog IMO. I know I will win against an attack trained dog...an attack trained horse on the other hand is a whole different story. But which get banned?

In my experiance I have had far more trouble with "little" dogs cause they "aren't" dangerous. So the owners make no effort to train them out of fear biting and other problems.

Would you only camp with kids in areas where all predators [2 and 4 legged] had been killed off?
Any pet [short of fish], including 10 lbs dogs can hurt/kill kids.
Personally I would like to see large predators restored to the 48 states...would really help the RKBA fight IMHO.
