Georgia TFLers

Ben,

If you want to compare ranges, Hot Shots is much better than Pannell's. I've shot at Ed's before but I do not care at all to go there again. They have little to no ventilation there. I spent 30 minutes there with a .44mag and could taste burnt powder for the next two days. I would have to literally wait after each shot for the smoke to clear so I could even see the target. Its too dark in there anyway.

Pannell's has the good ventilation and light but there range is only 50 ft and the target holders bounce for 10 minutes after you run the thing out. It is only 4 miles from home though, so it is convenient for me.

Hot Shots has a very well lit and ventilated 25yd range with target holders that are far more sturdy than Pannells (unless you happen to shoot the thing)! Plus they are only about 1.5 miles from work and sorta on the way home. I'd give Hot Shots a try.

I wouldn't mind meeting up for a TFL shoot. When and where?

Jack

RickyT,

Are you sure you aren't just recruiting for IDPA under the guise of a "TFL Invitational Pistol Tournament?"

Spectre,

American Classic Marksman is on Peachtree Industrial, IIRC. They shoot an IDPA match there on Monday nights.

Another alternative is the Range at Charlie Elliot WMA east of Atlanta off I-20. It is a great facility and it is free.

TaxPhd,

I'm glad you mentioned that. I've wondered about the ranges on the WMAs but have never taken the time to go check them out. From my location, John's Mtn and Cohutta are the closest. Has anyone tried those particular ones? Do most of these ranges have tables, covers, target stands, or any other shooting-creature comforts?

Jack

Jack Straw,

I haven't been to the one's that you mention, but I have heard word of mouth that most aren't very nice.

Charlie Elliot, on the other hand, is superb. 50 and 100 yard ranges, covered shooting positions, with rock solid benches set into concrete. Bring your own cardboard for posting targets on target stands.

Midweek is a better time to go, as the ranges are much less crowded. Weekends can be kind of scary, depending on who is there shooting.

Let me know if you need more info.

Spectre,

Tell us about the martial arts instructor you are referring to. Are the classes adults only, or do they teach kids (13 year old boy) also?

Thanks.

I've been to American Classic. Forgot.
Some folks have gotten together at Wilson Shoals WMA.
Here's a pic from Sunday (I'm in the background):

I used to train with Bud Malstrom. I now train with John Orth. Bud is a great martial artist, but he's closing up shop to be security chief for a company flying in precious metals from Africa. (Bud is recommending new students to John's, incidentally.) John does have a children's class. Contact me offline, or ask in the CQB forum for more info.

Tom,

There is a range, Georgia Range and Guns, off Pleasantdale Road. I beleive they shoot IDPA on Thursday.

Note for Ricky T. Yes I was referring to Maria's helpfulness. I do not want any misunderstanding.

See you Monday.

Vee: GA Range and Guns is off Satellite Blvd. behind Gwinnett Place Mall. They shoot IPSC on Thursday night. There are only 2 IDPA affiliated clubs in the Atlanta area, Classic Marksman and South River.

Hey Zip and any other Mid and South Ga TFL'ers, What about a MidGa TFL'ers club? How far south are ya, I live about 60 Miles south of Atlanta and 45 miles West of Macon.

Contact me at: maildahamac@icqmail.com

Zip: Have you ever gone to that discount sporting goods store at Exit 43 on I-75? I'm out of date on most gun prices for comparison, but they have primers at around $15 per thousand, and IMR at $16 to $17 per pound...

Art,

I go there all the time. I live just off Exit 45. That's the Sports Center in Perry. Quite a selection.

Dahamac, zip, check email.

Sensop - I would like to try the Sports Center. Where do I go when I exit at 43? How are the prices and selections there? Thanks.

Tom B,

Turn to the east on Sam Nunn Blvd (we are so proud!). Go about two hundred yards and I think it's the first traffic light, turn to the left into the big Wal-Mart shopping area. You have to go around the Sports Center to get to Wal-Mart. 'Can't miss it, literally.

Reloading stuff is to the left and back about three aisles once you're inside. If you're headed down this way, maybe we could meet and get a cup of coffee. Let me know.
