Having recently moved near Atlanta in Covington I am looking for a good gunstore/gunshop that keeps a good inventory of guns. I don't want to drive into the city of Atlanta. I have tried Piedmont Sports (OK but no cigar) and Franklins in Athens (rude clerks that know little about guns and less about dealing with the public). I am willing to drive east on I20 for as long as it takes to find a decent store. Please share your good stores with me. Thanks.

Look up Tucker Guns in Tucker. I haven't been there in years but I did have a good impression of them from about 6 years ago.

I don't know thier address, but it is on your side of town. It seems everything in the greater atlanta area is somewhat of a drive.

Hope this helps...

Try Hot Shots in Marietta and Bernie's Sport Center in Norcross. Both have good prices and are good people to deal with.

Definately try Bernies Sports Center,he has the lowest prices around town. Ihave been using him for 4-5 years and he never has been high on his prices.I saved 175$ on my last gun going with him,as i always check the prices every where ut always buy from bernie!

Oh tucker gun changed owners a few years back and they are now way high on their prices, one more place is Davids gun room off of buford highway he carries a decent supply or reloading gear also!

It's a shame you had a bad experience at Franklin's-they've got one of the best stocked gunstores around.

Bernie's is a good shop,as is Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna. I live near Dave's Gun Room, but I think their prices are kinda high.

If you are willing to drive across town, I second the recommendation on Hot Shots. They have gotten quite a bit of money out of me in the past 9 years.

Also check out DKL Firearms, they are down the road from Hot Shots. They have a much better rifle selection, and thier prices are on par with Hot Shots.

Bill - I used to buy from Franklins when his shop was in the basement of his home. He was on the Athens Police Force back then. Then he built a larger store in Athens behind his home and I also did alot of business with him. I left the area for about 20 years and lost touch. You know he passed away several months ago. I went to the present store last week for the first time (his wife and kids now the owners) but it was like going into KMarts. The clerks were like KMarts also.Don't bother me I'm only trying to "make 8"!

I buy from three places, Bernies, American Classic and gun shows. BTW there is a nice range in your area - South River GC. They shoot a good IDPA match the last Sunday of the month.

I don't know about any stores on the east side of Atlanta, but I will second some of the opinions already offered here. I've bought more from Hot Shots than from anywhere else (good prices and good help). Adventure Outdoors has a good selection, but they are usually higher in price and it is rare that I get decent help there (though I just recently bought a Kimber there at a good price and with some very good service). If you are willing to make the drive up to Jasper, head to the Bargain Barn. I always find that they have the best prices with a good selection and good help. I would buy more there if they were more convenient. Don't bother with Big Ed's in Marietta. As an example, the Kimber I just bought is running from $570 (Bargain Barn)to $610 (Hot Shots) to about$630 at several other stores. Ed's price sticker on the same gun is $800. Now that does include $100 of range time, but that still puts their price well above anyone else's. The Sportsman's Warehouse (Bass Pro Shops) up in Duluth has good prices, but they have a small selection of handguns and the people working there are about as sharp as butter knives.

Hope you find a place that suits your tastes. It is nice to have a good gun shop to go to on a rainy day!

Definitely Bernie's Sports Center, its worth the drive for me and I live on the opposite side of Atlanta 80 miles away. I have bought 3 guns there, and He was the only dealer in 6 that I talked too that could get my the Ruger .454 Super Redhawk. http://www.bernies-sports.com/

I called Franklin's in Athens once, I have had more intelligent converstions about guns with a blind dumb billy goat. Just the way they handled my questions over the phone caused them to lose one customer, me! of course one guy I know got a great deal at Franklin's; so if you are willing to put up with rude nitwits, they may be ok.

Try David's(Dave's) Gun room, just make sure you comparison shop before buying there. He does have alot of reloading supplies. And the people that work there are rather knowledgeable and courteous.

I'm going to have to look up that Hot Shots myself.

American Classic on Medlock Bridge is great if you are a member. They'll sell you any gun at $25 over invoice. Bernies is good but I only like Maria. The guys that work there have been jerks. Tactical Gear in Forest Park has great people and some of the best selection of automatics around.

Tom,

Welcome to Atlanta. As you have read, Bernie's is a great store. And like Blunder, Maria is wonderful. There is also another place, "The Gun Store" on Buford Hwy. It is about a mile south of 285--David is the manager. Many of his prices are lower than Bernie's.

I've bought a bunch of guns from Mark Franklin at Franklins of Athens. Mark's always sold me guns and accessories for less than I could get them anywhere else. I can't speak for his clerks, as I only deal with Mark. I also like Bernies's, but have only bought accessories from him.

I've seen some great sale prices on long guns at Bass Pro, but their clerks know less than the Wal-Mart guys.

David's Gun Room folks are nice, but their prices are high.

All of my purchasing has been from Roswell Gun Specialty. I shoot at Pannels; I used to shoot at Ed's Gun and Tackle, but they cost a fortune.

I'm gonna try Hot Shots in Marietta seeing that I live in downtown Atlanta and I've heard them suggested several times. I would also look at Brock's Guns; I'll never shop there, but their prices seem good when there's a sale.

I chatted on the internet with the owner of Brock's Guns and afterwards he looked me up in the phone book and called me at home to pitch me a Glock that he had in stock... problem was, I never gave him my last name OR permission to call me. He was trying to be "friendly" and "customer service" oriented, but the call to my home from a complete stranger to pitch me a gun was un-called for (pun intended).

Um...Yeah, that's what we meant! In all seriousness, Maria is friendly and courteous. Being beautiful doesn't hurt, though... :D

It sounds like some of you guys are really close. I live 5 minutes from Gwinnet Place Mall, off Pleasant Hill. If anyone's interested, there's a SUPER martial arts teacher close by.

Spectre,

We are really close. I am about 5 minutes from Bernies. We should have a TFL Shoot or something. Anyone up for it??
