George w's Speech

George W delivered a rousing, exciting, and pointed speach last night.

I think it surprized a lot of people.

I'm sure it troubled a lot of democrats.

Likewise, I', sure it made a lot of republicans smile.

I did.

I was apprehensive before the speech, because GW does fumble words at times. But at the end I was in seventh heaven. That speech was as good as any that Clinton's given, and I doubt Gore can do as good. "I believe in grace because I have seen it...I believe in peace because I have felt it...I believe in forgiveness because I have needed it."
GW got in the digs he needed to at Clinton/Gore without using words that most of us would have found acceptable, except in polite company.

BTW, the AP just _had_ to run a small story today about how GW sometimes stumbles on words, and detailed how one word, "nuclear,"
was spelled out phonetically on the teleprompter. Interesting that the wire service thought that story needed to be printed.

Great speach, really put the pride back into running for the presidency.. I cringed a bit when he mentioned strictly enforcing current gun laws, since to me they're all unconstitutional. I got the feeling that this speech WAS directed at the undecided "moderate" fence sitters. I think he did well. If Gore wins in November, prepare for the worst and pray for this once great nation...

Dazzling. Most political speeches seem like a rehash of every other one, and are usually safe, with a lot of talk about "hope" and the "future". Yes GW had that, but packaged it in a way that made it seem new and genuine. The Dems are fretting, I guarantee it. Expect to see them respond with incredibly negative ads, bordering...no, no, not bordering, simply over the line on viciousness.

Another thing.
For almost all of my voting life, I've been a democrat. (HUSH! -note past tense). I've recently become more libertarian (so I can post here :D ), however I'd decided to hosd my nose and vote for Bush. That is no longer the case. Judging from that speech, I WANT to vote for Bush.

The GOP convention set up something - 'The Mean-Spirited Democrats' They did it well.

Attack ads have to be answered, but if Bush answers with semi-positive ads, he will just re-enfoce the mean spirited Democrats.

I love it.

Some polls have W. with as much as 19 point lead. He got both a pre and post convention "bump." I can't remember when that has happened before.

"sure the economy is good,"

Name the laws that Clinton has supported which cause the inherited Bush economy to get better? Now name the laws which the Republicans fought against which kept the economy from being derailed by stultifying regulation and taxes.

*snort* Have you seen that Latino nephew of George W.? George P., I think. Every woman in my house was drooling over him.

People magazine is getting set to name George P. Bush in one of their "Top 10 Sexiest People." That ought to tend to the Latino vote at the very least, and if my female relatives are any clue, it'll take care of the distaff vote, too.

LawDog,
I've seen the same reaction - from my wife (sniff). Although he may loose them, it will not be in the numbers Dole did, and like you said, maybe not at all.

Gore will not win married folks - latino or white IMO. Too much family values for him to overcome.

I've seen some of the disatff. vote as well. One at work voted for Carter, Mondale etc.... She will not vote Gore. I offered a Bush yard sign, she wants it and wants to volunteer.

ps. Wouldn't it be fun to watch Bush ask Gore a question during a debate in spanish?? Gore would be dumb founded.

What's the big deal about catering to the latino group? What makes them any better than any other group, say asian? Why should tax dollars be spent on welfare for immigrants? And he still wants to persue world order, opps, I mean world "trade". So far that's meant we trade our jobs for their products. Doesn't sound like whats best for our nations economy to me. Not that Gore would be any better, but theirs always Liberatarian. Why don't they get to debate! Why is the Liberatarian convention not televised? Because the Republicrats would lose their cushy tax funded jobs thats why! Actually I watched much of the convention so far and it seems a large improvment over the last few. That's the best I can do in the way of praise.

The other night I heard the speech by his foreign policy lady . Very well spoken . Smart as a whip . One thing she said made me happy . That we should not be the worlds 911. I believe that as long as we are at it we should resolve to stop being the worlds ATM !!!

...“ They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” --Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

Whereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it.

gitarmac, the big deal is that Democrats have always taken minority voters as a given. So much so that, when Bush started reaching out to those groups, the Democrats were caught with their pants down (not the first time ;) ). I haven't heard Bush offer anything special to Latinos or other groups, other than an invititation for them to join the American dream.

Man, I want Gore to flame out so bad I can almost smell the avgas!
