George W Bush can heal the country

Agree with Monkeyleg

George: It isnt like that. Clarence Thomas and Alan Keyes are perceived as being too white. Colin Powell is probably OK because of his sponsorship of programs for black youth.

The Jesse Jacksons and Jim Browns do not like it when the George Jeffersons do well and leave the neighborhood. That is what Clarence Thomas and Alan Keyes have done and it is the main reason why they do not poll well among African-American voters.

Powell and His Position on Issues

First, I wonder if he would step into such a messy situation.

I question his position regarding the Second.

I question his position regarding affirmative action.

Other than those two reservations, he has great press, but I know little else about him.

Bush must overcome Mr. Dimple before this is an issue.

I understand that Powell is anti-gun but I haven't heard anything for quite awhile on his stance. It's too bad that Kaye Bailey Hutchinson can't serve. Don't they have a couple of woman governors who would like to step into the slot?

In Colin Powell's autobiography, "A Soldier's Way" he mentions his ownership of firearms and his father in laws arsenal [his father in law was a Black high school principal in Birmingham, Alabama].

Colin Powell also states that he would be the "poster boy for the NRA"[pg 537], if he carried all the guns the Russians gave him [as gifts] over the years.

He also mention's taking his father shooting at an Army range and his treasured gift of a shotgun from Mikhail Gorbachev [pg 587].

There is also an incident, where he was nearly arrested in a Gov parking lot while showing a friend a WW2 Japanese rifle, from his car boot [pg 299].

Colin Powell's views on the 2nd Amendment are not discussed in his book, yet the anecdotal evidence seem's somewhat hopeful.

BTW on pg 328 he tells of the first time he met Congressman D Cheney, calling him a "man with an exceptional mind".

Here's an idea. Find a pro-2nd amendment conservative black woman and appoint her as the V.P. I know they are out there one of my closest friends fits that description. Then the NOW gang would have a woman to vote for and the NAACP would have a sister to vote for and the liberals wouldn't be able to say anything without exposing themselves for the socialists that they are.

Besides, wouldn't it just drive Hillary crazy? :)

Could that pro RKBA woman restore the Military's Faith in the Whitehouse like a General can?

I dont think so.
The Democrats would accept him.
The Military would accept him.
I truely feel it would bring the country back together.
No - he isnt the perfect choice.
No - he isnt the miracle we could hope for...
But he is the only possibility that could literally walk in and have nation wide acceptance.

Keyes wouldnt be accepted... that out of nowhere woman? I dont think so - was she a General like Powell was? Would she make the Military breath a sigh of relief and stand down? I mean hell, I can hear those sabers rattling from out here in Utah! Could ANYONE else walk in with such a sweep?
Colin Powell would be the man of the hour.
Dick? Bush could appoint him a seat in the Cabinet... Some reward in some way... I am sure, unlike Gore, that Dick could see the benifit, and step aside with honor like a real man... and Powel would step up to the plate and politics as we know it would be turned back down from "11".
