George W Bush can heal the country

George Hill

Staff Alumnus
If Bush walks into the Oval Office as the President - He has the option that can bring the entire nation together.
Due to Dick's bad heart, he steps down... And George brings COLLIN POWELL in as the Vice.

Its THAT simple.
Think about it.

The Downside

The downside is Colin Powell himself. During and since the GOP Convention he has come across as a whiner with an agenda and little loyalty to GOP and GWB. I doubt that GWB would offer it to him.
We all know that I have been wrong before.

Because he is independantly a Constitutionalist and doesnt agree with all the parties ideology.
First hes a Hero.
Second he would be the fist black man to hold the office...
If any Liberal Media talking head spindoctor said even one bad thing about Powell - he would be ridden outta town on rails.
After two terms as Vice, he could run for CNC and get another 2.

I dont see a down side.

I'm not absolutely sure I can warm up to the idea myself but, Ed, I think you have missed something Powell has repeated quite often. Whenever asked about whether or not he would serve in a Presidential Administration, he has said, "If the President asks you, you serve."

He is still, at his core, a soldier. He will serve his country when and how asked. And he would do so to the best of his not inconsiderable abilities.

It kind of sounds like I'm talking myself in to the idea.

Sam, I tend to agree with you, but...Powell is better known and could command more attention and respect. So I think I would pick him over Keyes (who is definitely the better scholar etc.)

Regarding Powells agenda and whining...he's proven that he can "work with the team" and further the national interest.

I wish it would happen.

IN FACT...Bush could swing more sympathy his way TODAY if he annouced Powell as part of his team an some other responsible position, too. SecDef? National Security Advisor? (Sorry, JP Ryan) Nearly as much benefit as VP, without messing with the ticket.

But would Powell do it? I think not, or Bush would've played that card already.

But I STILL wish it would happen!

Play with the team?

First of all I'm not too sure he is a team player. Stormin, Norman and Powell didn't get along too well. Gen. Powell's speech at the convention didn't indicate that he was on the GOP team.
It's sort of funny that Colin Powell could have been elected president of a country that knew absolutely nothing about his politics.

Alan Keyes would satisfy me, but as he doesn't pander to the racial interests he has no appeal as a unifier.

If that is the direction you want to go Jesse Jackson would be a better choice.

Let's see. From an RKBA perspective I have no doubts about Keyes. But Powell? Far as I'm concerned he's agin' us, and I haven't seen anything to prove otherwise. Keyes all the way.

George Bush is going to be a one termer, if he wins this current legal squabble. He will be annihilated by Hillary Clinton, who will carry all the states nutty enough to vote for Gore, as well as the organized women's vote. Bush has neither the grey-matter nor the inclination to confront her or the hard left liberal-socialist axis, which wants to put us all in contemplation camps and therapize us into biodegradable soap if we don't voluntarily disarm.

The best thing we can do is urge the Bush team to withdraw gracefully and let Gore have all the problems that the next president will necessarily have. This will knacker every philosophical premise of the hard left, including Hillary's and those of her grovelling mobs, allowing us to take the White House in '04, preferably with Alan Keyes as President.
He'd have every left-wing kook running for a foxhole.

We need to look ahead, people. Whoever wins THIS election will lose the next. Think ahead, for Heaven's sake.

A female Veep?

How about Dick stepping down and Condoleeza stepping up? BTW, who was Dubya's second choice as Veep?

Colin Powell advanced to the top of his profession by never making a mistake. He has to be very astute at playing politics. As far as being an out front in the spotlight leader i don't think so. I think he would want a concensus so if something fell on it's face he wouldn't be the man in the headlights.
Alan Keyes is another reincarnation of the Jimmy Carter syndrome. An intelectual who can't see the trees for the forest. He couldn't delegate to anyone without having a hand in every decision.

Now how about Bill Gates. At least he knows how to run a business. He also knows how to make something into number one and keep it there. He sure wouldn't be an apologist for who we are and what we can accomplish. This is something that needs adressed. All these people who are ashamed of who we are and what we have acomplished through out history need to get a life. Why should we be embarrased because of what we have accomplished? Everybody else world wide had the same chances but the citizenry didn't want to take the risk of creating an environment that benefits thinking and inventing.

Though I really like Cheney, and wish him the best, this would be a great opportunity for Alan Keyes. As VP, he could no longer be ignored by the Media. Unlike the deformed reasoning of Clinton and Gore, race should have nothing to do with any of it. BUT, if Powell or Keyes were chosen by Bush, wouldn't it just goad the Democrats, for the nation's first black VP, to be Republican?

George --

Duck Hunt proposed the exact same notion over dinner last night.

Great minds think alike.

She would probably be just as happy with Alan Keyes. I will mention it.

Don't think any of this will work or will be tried.I would like GW to appoint Alan Keys to a cabinet post.THis would would give him more media and name recongnition thus making him a viable candidate fro pres on 2004.
If Gore gets in all is in the cesspoll anyhow. He will do so much damage in 4 yrs we will never recover from it.

Munro Williams,

While I agree that the next four years is not going to be a party for either of these candidates, I respectfully submit that if we lose this election, we may not have an election in 2004. Al Gore is corrupt, his administration is corrupt, and if you thought the voter fraud this year was bad, wait until "Buddhist Temple" Gore is holding the reins of power. We can ill afford to allow Gore the ability to appoint Supreme Court justices to the bench with Emerson on its eventual course to the high court. We cannot allow Gore to continue to use the cabinet to push an anti-gun agenda like the HUD lawsuit against the gun manufacturers. Under Gore, the BATF would be even more draconian than it is now. True, the economy will probably take a major hit in the next four years, and Bush may well be a one-term president. But if we fail to see Bush through this, and Gore appoints SC justices, we may not have any gun rights by 2004.

Just my opinion,

Westtexas

Sorry, Keyes will never be President.

Before I get Flamed, let me say that I have the highest respect for Keyes. However he is not a good Presidential candidate. I would like to see him as a Senator, or even better, the Speaker of the House. Keyes is a little too igid and ideological to be President. People do not like that in a President.

As to a Vice-President to replace Cheney if for some unfortunate reason he could not serve, how about this idea. Ashcroft, the defeated (by illegal means) senator from Missouri.

President Hillary (Intense shudders) I have to believe that her negatives cannot carry the country. New York has always had wierd Senators (ie. Bella Abzug) There is no way she could win the country, and if she does the cuase is well and truely lost. If so I am immigrating.

If Bush can get into office and get his tax cuts into play and reduce regulation, a recession can be staved off. The thing that most people don't get, is that this economy is not a result of Clinton, it is a result of the profound diffirence that Reagan brought to the basic thinking of the economy. Bush and Clinton followed the basic tenants, but now we are getting back into the situation we had before. Excessive taxes, high Regulation, etc etc.

Let me tell you who I think would be a new and interesting face in the Vice-Presidential position. Christopher Cox. This Congressman from California, with Impeccable conservative credentials, A from the NRA, who owns his congressional district, has President written all over him. He may be the Republican parties next Reagan.

I kinda wish

that the NAACP, the rainbow coalition, and other black groups hadn't staged such a "war" against whites. I think Keyes would have had better standing if allot of whites weren't secretly pissed off at afirmative action, riots, and the hoopla that is slung by JJ and sharps every time they don't get their way. I think that racism isn't a matter of inferior/superior thinking but a deep resentment of how one group gets their way by playing a race card. And then having that shoved into the faces of the other race, day in and day out. I think that hard feelings are actually sot after (by some blacks) to forward hate and then "oppression". I wanted to vote Keyes, I like him, I think he's a true American, and would put the nations interests above his race's interests. And I am White.

Okay, flames are welcome if you think this is a racist comment/post. It's not meant to be.

_If_ something were to happen to Cheney and Powell was appointed vice president, he would cease to be "black" in the media's eyes within one day. The Jesse Jacksons of the world have a definition of "black," and neither Powell, Keyes, Clarence Thomas or Walter Williams meet the criteria.
Jackson et.al. regard Clinton as the first black president, while they view the above named blacks as traitors to their race.

Bush has pretty openly suggested that Powell will be Secretary of State or Defense, but I don't think Powell wants to be anywhere near the executive level. The media storm over his wife's depression pretty much put the kibash on those aspirations.

What?

Powell is and will always be Black - and should Jesse Jackson condem him as the first Black Vice President - I think Jackson would soon disappear just like so many others have disappeared. Quick fade to black and exit stage left.
