general comments on inside the pocket holster

tried a Galco leather and and uncle mike's.

The Galco was stiff as a new holster should be but seemed to not smoothly release the J-frame.

The Uncle Mike's was smooth and dropped nicely into the pocket.

Bought the uncle Mikes and have carried with little problem.

What has other experience been?

Thanks.

My wife pocket carries with a fitted belt holster. Instead of the belt, there's a strip of stiff leather going through the belt loops. The leather strip prevents the holster from coming out of the pocket accidentally and also helps to keep the holster and gun properly oriented in the pocket to help with the draw.

When I used to carry a j-frame in a pocket I found Mika's Pocket holster to be real good. Releases the gun easily and replacement is also easy one handed. Inexpensive too but you might have to wait a month for delivery.

I wear loose Hager slacks. When I tried the Uncle Mike's pocket holster, it tended to bring the holster out with the J-Frame on a draw. I switched to a RKBA pocket holster, which works great.

I've got a Don Hume for my S&W Airweight. The Don Hume has a horn on it that will allow it to hook on the pocket on the way out causing the gun to come free and the holster to more or less stay in the pocket.

It works okay. Not perfect but you really have to have your draw angle correct to "scrap" the holster against the pocket on the way out.

I carry in my front pocket using a pocket holster. Several things to be aware of:

1. drawing from concealment when you are sitting down is difficult and time consuming.

2. It is still slightly more time consuming for me to draw my weapon from a pocket holster than other types of holster. Knowing that limitation, I still prefer to use my pocket holster for convenience.

I carry my Kahr PM9 in a Galco pocket holster, at first it was hard to remove, I made the metal piece that holds the holster open on the top a little wider by streching it with my hand, fits like a glove now.

I like my satin-nickel S&W 442 in a "Pocket Softy" holster from Mitch Rosen. Not cheap but I don't know of anything which compares in quality. I've tried hundreds of practice draws from the pocket and invariably the holster stays in place as it should. It's an excellent design with unsurpassed workmanship.

I use an Uncle Mike's to carry my Ruger LCP or Sig P238. I have reinforced it with the binding off a school folder to keep it from collapsing and shifting position. The last photo in this post shows it. I have since taken the bottom piece of reinforcement off the holster and it is still stable.

I also use a De Santis Nemesis pocket holster for my SW J-frames. It is very stable and really breaks up the the outline of the guns. Depending upon the pants and how I am positioned, you may or may not be able to see a small bulge but it does not look like a gun.

I carry my 638 airweight in a Galco horsehide front pocket holster, and really like it.... They break in well and
Fit the weapon like a glove. Every couple of months it gets a new application of Pecards.

I just started carrying a 637 that I picked up last weekend. We searched high and low for a pocket holster but couldn't find one. I ended up buying a cheap black hawk IWB and cutting off the the belt clip and using it as a pocket holster. It works ok and should hold me over till I get my nemissis.

I use a Mika's for my j-frame and it is fantastic ... I use a Nemesis for my EDC, a Kahr PM9, and it also is excellent, both release easily and don't come out along with the gun ...

Don Hume is my go-to-holster guy. I no longer have the option of pocket carry since my GF took my Kel-Tec P11 away...she took the Don Hume pocket holster too. When I had it and occasionally pocket carried, the holster worked great. The little hook in the corner kept it from coming out with the gun just like it's supposed to. I have a mental block on non-leather holsters..not sure why exactly. I have the same problem with rifle slings. Some things just NEED to be leather.

DeSantis SuperFly/Nemnesis, Mika...

I'd pull for the great pocket holsters from DeSantis. I used a slick black Nemnesis for my small frame Taurus .357magnum in 12/2004. The SuperFly line is newer but I like the old style.

Mika pocket holsters are highly rated. To my understanding, the holster line was started by a full time LAPD officer. ;)

I usually don't always like to carry in a pocket, but if I am going to carry in a pocket I will ALWAYS use some kind of holster rather than just stick a gun in there. Personal preference.

That said I tend to lean more towards Uncle Mikes holsters for pocket carry. I also tend to lean more towards a Nylon or cloth of some kind for material, maybe some of the padded flexible nylon like a pancake holster, because I tend to be able to get the pistol out without dragging along the holster. Leather has a tendency to do that. Which is why I picked the Uncle Mikes version. I carry a walther PPK when I do carry this way and never had a problem.

Bought a handmade leather pocket holster from HolsterPro...he sells them on ebay

I like it because they are formed and fitted so my revolver just settles into holster and doesnt get a pinch on any one part of revolver(Taurus 327fed 6shot)

when i draw the gun i pull it out and back like a quick draw old west style so if holster stays on gun then drawing it this way makes sure it stays in pocket

also the way the holster fits you can put your finger thru trigger guard and pop off holster with your index finger nail

Been using the Unclee Mike's since I bought,...

am well pleased.

Have noticed that If I'm wearing Cabelas 7-pocket hikers, it just disappears, but if I wear Dickies brand work pants, the smaller/shallower pocket can allow the bottom of my Pachmyar gripper to show.

Thanks for responses.
