Gen 5 Glock 19

If you don't like the finger grooves they are easy to remove

To me breaking out the dremel to a serialized part is not what I consider easy and generally not easily reversible. Lots of people do it no doubt, but it's not something I'd recommend if you haven't practiced with a dremel before.

I was at Cabela’s yesterday and the asking price was $649.95 for a Gen5 Glock 26 with the standard plastic sights. I don’t have my Gen3 26 anymore so I thought the Gen5 release last week was a good chance to get another 26. This price is $50 higher than the Gen5 17 or 19, which is outrageous!

I honestly think that a Gen3 or 4 trade-in from someone who has to have a Gen5, and who had to trade their old gun in to get the “new & improved” version is the right way for me to go!

I have never found Cabelas to have great pricing. I think if you were to wait a bit you'd see the prices go down and other retailers with better pricing be more available. That said there is nothing wrong with a Gen 3 or Gen 4 G26.

I haven’t found great pricing on new guns at Cabela’s, but I did find a really nice CZ P-01 in the local Gun Library so it’s always worthwhile to check things out.

I’ve got a Gen3 17 & 19 so I can attest to that!

When I bought my blue label Gen5 G19 it cost the same as the Gen4. So far the half moon cutout on the front of the frame to facilitate dragging out a problematic magazine causes me more issues than any improved features the Gen5 provides. I will not be keeping my Gen5 for that reason. Much happier with my Gen4s. I will state that the Gen2 grip on the G19 was tops. If Glock had left off the cutout the Gen5 would be getting all my business.

I’m the OP, and thought I should respond to all of you who were kind enough to give me your thoughts.

I know I could/should go and rent a Gen 5 but believe it or not, I’ve simply not had the time given my travel schedule for the past several months.

At any rate, given the majority of responses, and the fact that I have Gen 4 Glocks out the wazoo, and the finger grooves don’t bother me in the least, I’m sticking with what I’ve got. If it ain’t broke...

For the record I have Gen 4s in: 17, 19x2, 20, 23, 26, 29, 31, 32, 33 in numerical order. Hence my statement about being heavily invested.

Yea in your case I see no reason to “upgrade”, especially if you’d want uniformity across all of those

My memory may be addled but I seem to recall the Gen2 grip was smoother, less abrasive and the cutout was not as pronounced. The Gen5 cutout bothers me compared to my Gen4 guns. Might need to relook at a Gen2 to see how big that cutout is compared to the Gen5.

I do know that I have swapped out all of my other Glocks to Gen4 except for my G36.

The Gen 5 grip is as abrasive as a Gen 4. The cutout may well be smaller on the Gen 2. My point is it’s not really a new idea. It does seem to bother some folks though. It doesn’t bother me, though I feel strongly about it.

This was EXACTLY my feeling when i first saw a gen 5 in person. Its just the wrong place for that cut out.
