Buying from the ODCMP (DCM) isn't as hard as some make it sound to be. It's just a lenghty process while your background is being cleared by the Feds.
You can be military or police or certified by the NRA as a rifle instructor. Otherwise you need to shoot in a DCM match, which is no big deal since any high power rifle qualifies. You don't have to hit anything - just shoot.
The guns vary in quality and the last two I bought had sorry looking stocks. One shot poorly (1 & 1/2 foot @ 100 yards) and examination showed a nick in the muzzle. The other held 6" at 100 yards and probably can be tightened up with glass bedding & trigger work. My previous Garands from ODCMP were all beauties.
Even though you've bought a Dane from your dealer, don't overlook the DCM. At $500, they're hard to beat. BTW, good for you for staying away from those Century Arms recreations. The receivers are poorly casted and would fail inspection by the old & original Springfield Armory. They should have had Ruger cast them and gauge them if they wanted to go that route.
