Gander Mountain Prices?

The Gander Mountain here in South West Virginia is usually around $50 to $100. more on guns than your LGS is and their used guns are plum out of reason
I don't buy anything there unless I cant get it else where

In Houston, when Gander Mountain has 'advertised specials' their sale prices are about 5-15% above the everyday price at Academy...

I do not understand how they get enough sales to keep it going. Granted, at my local Gander the selection is quite large but everything is vastly overpriced compared to buying on the internet.

I live 5 minutes from a Gander and I wish I could change it to a Cabela's so at least there would be reloading components.

I have found that the Gander Mtn here is a good place to go look at and handle a weapon you might be interested in but then go elsewhere to buy it much cheaper.

the gander mountain in sterling heights MI is worse. its a more upscale and "expensive" part of the Detroit area. the prices reflect so. they had a S&W sd40VE i went and checked out recently. $399 ended up going to the hole in the wall small LGS/6 lane range and paying $329 for the same gun that cost $70 more at GM. dunhams wanted $370 for the same one. its all about where you go and what you are willing to pay. i would prefer the LGS to keep the money in the community. why overpay and send profits to come corporate A-Hole who is already over paid?

The prices at GM are crazy high. They want 50-200 more per gun, and I won't pay that. The last time I was in GM I was looking for a glock 23 magazine and it was 49 bucks for it. Haven't been back since and likely won't be.

My Gander Mountain put all of the used rifles behind the cabinet. When they had all of the used guns out where you could handle them, prices seemed to be fairly decent. In fact, I purchased a very nice Savage 30-06, slightly used, with glass (nothing special) for $350 a couple of years ago.

Now, I can't see what their used rifles sell for. Also, their archery department is only a small fraction of what it used to be. Plus, they got rid of their archery range - Gander Mtn. just not as much fun shopping there anymore.:(

I never considered buying a firearm from Gender mtn because of their high prices. Until I saw a nib single shot stainless cva 45-70 for $250. That was the best and only gun purchase I made last year. I guess everyone was looking for an AR and the single shots break action rifles weren't moving. Sometimes even the expensive places have good deals and it doesn't hurt to look.

Gander Panders

I go to Gander Mountain in N. Houston for three reasons. (1) because I can't find it anywhere else and that is my last resort (2) because I want my gun and three hundred rounds of test ammo to get stolen from right in front of the glass doors not twenty feet away at the front entrance (3) because I want to buy something at Academy and after seeing the price at GM the price at Academy makes me smile and feel like I accomplished something.

Dang. I wish I lived where you guys live. On most guns the Gander Mtn's prices near me are typically equal to or quite a bit cheaper than any of the LGS' around here. Admittedly I haven't bought a new gun in awhile, but the last two I did buy were at Gander Mtn. A brand new stainless Ruger New Vaquero w/ 7.5" barrel in .45 colt. Cost me $329.99. And a SA M1A Standard for $1399. LGS was asking $1599. Recently they were selling Walther PPKs for $559. Every LGS I checked was around $700 and up.

I rarely buy ammo as I reload. But, I never bought/buy ammo from Gander or the LGS as both are equally expensive.

As for reloading gear, the Gander Mtn near me no longer sells any of it and even when it did, the prices and selection were dismal. Only one LGS that I know of near me has a few items, but its overpriced and most of it has literally been sitting on the shelves for 20+ years, judging by the labels.

The one store that always trumped both Gander and the LGS was Sportsman's Warehouse. Selection and prices for ammo, reloading gear, and guns was always better there. Unfortunately they closed the one in my neighborhood and the nearest one now is about a 30 min drive. Not bad, but I rarely get up there anymore.

Occasionally they screw up on used guns. I bought a Winchester 94/22 about three years ago that was in near mint condition for $300. Last year I got a used 686 out of the S&W custom shop in great condition for $450.

But I agree in the vast majority of their prices. They're always overpriced and they certainly don't make up for it in customer service with a good portion of their employees being inexperienced kids making minimum wage.

since they have a large inventory GM is a good place to fondle the gun you've been considering..... then buy from a small shop for less after you've made up your mind...

I'll go ahead and kick Gander while we're at it

The local Gander Mountain here (Canton Ohio) must have their merchandise priced by someone on drugs.

New guns are full MSRP++, used guns are priced like new guns are priced elsewhere. Reloading items, when they even have them, are ridiculous. The selection is very poor, but occasionally they'll have something interesting on the used gun rack. When they do however, they usually like it more than I do.

I only go to Gander to look at guns that I order elsewhere and to sometimes buy clothes. Some of their clothing line is decent, and if you can find it on sale, the price is ok for outdoors type clothing.

There's a local chain (3 stores) called Fin Feather Fur that just opened a store a couple miles from Gander. Fin has much better inventory and pricing and they have employees who actually know what the hell they're talking about. I don't see our local Gander staying open a year, now that Fin has come to town. Gander simply can't compete with Fin and the local Gander is not nice enough to be a "destination" store like Cabelas or Bass Pro.

I put a Rossi Circuit Judge 18" bbl .410 shotgun on layaway at the local Gander store. It was $1 more than the same gun at Walmart. (It ended up being $9 cheaper at Gander because I had a "spend $50 save $10 coupon".)

I really liked Gander Mountain the first few years they were in my town. They had tons of used rifles and fairly decent prices! I purchased a very nice condition Savage 30-06 110 (with an inexpensive scope) for $350 out the door. They also had a top notch archery section and a nice shooting lane for archery. I even bought a new bow from them.

Since then, they put the few used rifles they have behind the counter; carry hardly any used guns, and the ones they have are 85% and less. The archery lane was gobbled up to make room for more gun counters. The archery section was shrunk down by nearly 50% and they just don't carry the high end stuff they used to have.

Maybe this works for them, with all of the new folks getting buying their first guns. It doesn't work for me, and I rarely go their anymore.

The Gander by me has gone off the deep end on pricing. Reload supplies are crazy expensive there as well. I go look at guns there and order and buy elsewhere.

They used to be a good store with great prices and I bought a lot of guns there. Kind of a shame they seemingly changed their business model.

It's a shame they're so overpriced on firearms. They have many guns, many stores and they're missing out in many sales due to greed I suppose. If they would jus lower there prices 10-15% there sales may increase 100%. Everyone would be happier. There's a GM about 4 blocks from me and like most I go there to "look". Have only been there 1/2 doz times and left 1/2 the time with nothing. I've never bought a gun there yet.

I go to Gander Mountain all the time.
They have a huge selection of guns, many more than any other store in the area (unless I drive 2 hrs to Cabela's)
I can check out the gun, see how it feels and handles and decide if I want to buy one........then I go to my favorite little gunshop down the road and have them order me one, usually for about 75% GM's price:D
