G19 or CZ P07 or ??

I am to the point of picking up a larger concealed carry pistol than my current options in 9MM. Truth be told I have not entirely abandoned the idea of simply bringing my G29 into the fold as a more consistent carry gun but I am leaning towards a 9MM.

I think, based on a number of threads, that I have narrowed down the front runners to a G19 or a CZ-P07. While I have considered some of the HKs others have mentioned they have simply been "off" from what I wanted... I think. There is a major gun show and I hope to trade off one or a couple unused guns (Stoeger coach gun, P232, and a SP101 .357) and come out with one I will use more while also limiting the calibers in my house a bit more.

I lean towards a hammer fired gun giving the CZ an edge though it is an interesting edge in that I have not said "its the CZ or bust in this category"

If I buy a striker fired gun it will be the G19 though I am less enthralled with the 5th generation over the 4th compared to most people. Am I missing something there?

I've discussed this in another thread with more specific questions. I've lamented the "lack of value" in the Glock as far as price. Now I'm trying to open it up for things I am missing in the discussion and, contrary to some people, I do rather enjoy the "this or that" discussions.

About 4 years ago, I went from "Glock Hater" to "Grudging Glock Appreciator." Now, I love my Gen 4 G19. It's as good a balance of price & features as I've ever found. I get Blue Label pricing, but even at street price, the G19 is hard to beat. With all of that said, if I were in the market for a pistol in the "compact class," I'd take a very hard look at the M&P 2.0 Compact. It's pretty new to the market, but it has me tempted to trade in my G19. Specs are almost identical, and I think the M&P probably has better ergos (with the admission that I haven't shot any M&P except for my Shield). The one drawback that I see right now is that it's so new on the market, accessories like holsters aren't available from all vendors.

I have opinions on some of the hammer-fired pistols in that category, but the depth and breadth of my experience with them involves holding one at the gun store. I'll let other, more knowledgeable members chime in on those.

Lohman I would have to say that you have picked the two most identical, yet most opposite pistols on earth :D

They are both polymer, both hold 15+1, and have VERY similar dimensions (except the decocker/safety on the P07 makes it wider)... but they are exact opposite being a DA/SA and SF.

I understand the question and the debate, but honestly my advice would be for you to make your mind up on action type first. I own SF pistols, but don't particularly care for them. I've never been a Glock fan, but in almost every instance when asked I am hard pressed not to recommend the G17 or G19 as a great service pistol. At any rate, I personally feel that you've picked two of the best values around, but in different categories. The choice, for me, would boil down to action type.

I've shot a few thousand rounds or so out of a Glock 19, so I feel qualified to at least compare it to my P07. For me, the P07 is much easier to shoot quickly and accurately. This things points and shoots wonderfully, has a great trigger (for what it is), and has had 0 failures since I've owned it. While I often recommend a Glock 19, I enjoy recommending a CZ P07 for anyone willing to entertain a DA/SA pistol purchase.

Both are great pistols. For me, my heart says CZ, and my mind says Glock.

Personally, the CZ P07 is the more appealing and interesting pistol, and a great defensive pistol in its own right, with some definite benefits over the Glock 19.

But I shoot the Glock 19 well despite the poor feel of its ergonomics, and once one gets used to the ease of owning and maintaining Glocks, the interchangeability of mags and parts across models, and ease with which one can find spare mags, parts, and accessories, it becomes very hard to argue against. And frankly, the 19 is the best all-around Glock model.

Get a Glock 19, but be sure to get a CZ one day too.

I've owned, handled, and carried Glocks in the past (though never actually a G19). I have gravitated towards 1911 style pistols lately and am currently carrying a P938. Somewhere in there was a Sig P228 as well IIRC.

The thing I prefer in regards to a hammer fired firearm is the ability to ride the hammer into the holster. And really its the only portion of this discussion that really favors a hammer fired pistol but it is a fairly major point for me.

That being said I can get over it. The learning curve is not going to be insurmountable to either action type.

For my personal preference, I would get the G19. I might be one of the few, but I haven't really gotten into the polymer CZ choices. I guess I'm just a traditionalist in that manner. The nice thing about Glocks is that, no matter what you want to do to it, someone out there has parts to do it with. CZ isn't bad at all at this point with things like that, but Glock is always going to be extremely well supported. Just one opinion of course.

I have owned about every Glock other than the 19. I have fired the 19. I haven't felt any kind of "love" for any of the Glocks I've owned or shot. I do not like the way they feel in hand.

I will probably still buy another Glock if I find a deal I can't refuse.

I currently own the P07. It is the GEN2 model and I carry it every day. It is a little heavier than the Glock and a bit thicker. It doesn't really bother me.

For me, the CZ shoots a lot better and handles recoil better than the G19. I also prefer the grip to the Glock grip.

All these observations are just my opinion.

I chose the P07. It's a great shooting gun with very little muzzle flip and very quick back on target. It fit me better than the Glock and the single action trigger is pretty sweet. I've already become pretty good with the first DA shot.

One thing it doesn't have is accessories. Holsters yeah, but other options are very limited. I only plan to upgrade sights so it's not that big a deal for me.

I'm on the side of the P07, better stock trigger, better made, higher quality parts. I've owned Glocks, passed tense, I own 3 CZ's now and looking for 2 more..Shooting the P07 is a joy.

The idea that the P07 doesn't have aftermarket accessories is not true, You can upgrade the trigger to a level as good as any trigger through Cajun Gunworks or CZ custom. There are custom sights, custom slides, custom finishes, different barrels, different weight springs etc. etc. etc.

I've heard some rumblings of a sub compact which if true I be in line instantly.

CZ75 Compact, converted to SAO......done....you're welcome!

The ability to do that is actually one of the draws. If I CANNOT get used to a DA/SA trigger I can always convert it over and have a SA operation similar enough to the 1911

Yes, there are after market options. But vs what's out there for Glock it's definitely on the low end. Again that matters not to me!

I will probably put XS sights on it too...so again the lack of night sight options doesn't affect me.

And yes the ability to convert to SAO operation is a plus! It's always good to have options!

Where did you hear about a subcompact version? I'd practically throw my money at CZ for one.

I will preface by saying I am very much a Glock hater. I wouldn't own one if it was free. That being said, CZ is a great pistol. They shoot well, eat any ammo and are tough as nails.

Get the Glock, I would say a 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel and 9mm magazines. Once you are done with it, get the CZ P07.
Also add to the mix a nice Jericho PSL 9mm, a Browning HI-Power 9mm, and a CZ75B. Then you will feel happy and satisfied, maybe. :)

I settled, not fully happy with, the G19. It sits more securely in my hand (the CZ was a bit top heavy). I tried hard to find something other than the G19 but could not overcome the "logical" portion of the decision. Weight and dimensions favor the Glock and any learning curve is a software issue not hardware

Hard to beat

Consider the G23, identical to the G19 but in .40 cal. For the range the .40 mags will work with 9mm.
A conversion barrel can be had for about a benjamin, 2 guns in one, takes seconds to swap barrels.
Buy a couple 9mm mags and you can choose to carry 9mm or the .40. It's literally 2 guns in one.
I regret not doing this myself. That said I am very happy with my G19. I like simplicity. Esp. in an implement that may save my life.

Glock 19 and a CZ PCR! All bases are covered!
Hell yeah, I own both of those! (I still wanna add an M&P9 M2.0 Compact, though; it's kinda irresistible.)

I love the PCR, but the skinny slide kinda bugs me, 'specially compared to the fat slide on the Glock. Polymer guns are a lot easier to take apart too.

I own a CZ 75B 9mm and a CZ P-01, and I also own a Glock Gen3 17 and 19. There is absolutely no bad choice to be made between any of these guns and the P-07!
