Future Of America II

Bezdelnik:Who are you a Data Analist for? The Government on some level?
I like your name. What does it mean?
How do you think Keyes would be to close to a Right Wing dictatorship? It wasn't clearly explained. What's wrong with disbanding the IRS? Wouldn't a form of flat tax be more effective?
This denying of the Socialist nature of FedGov on your part is odd. It's actions and intentions are clearly Socialist. The words of our beloved masters are always indicitive of an underlying Socialist idealogy. Their fostering of class warfare and refusal to ever cut taxes leap to mind instantly.

What it is all about for me is principles. I fully understand that taxes are inevitable. What I don't understand is how the Government levies those taxes. I agree with Keyes, Browne, and almost all liberty minded people that "We the People" should be in control of the Government, and the most effective way of doing this is controlling her by controlling her income. A flat tax is close but doesn't quite come to the original standard of the founders. A sales tax puts the control smack back into the hands of the people. The need for government income has not changed, only the principle involved in financing the government. Yes-most libertarians believe in taxes, just not income taxes or other immoral sources of revenue. We should abolish the 16th amendment, and work towards a "moral" tax system. As for Dr. Keyes being a dictator, where did you come up with that idea? A dictator is what you have right now case in point: over reaching executive orders. Keyes has made most of his "sermons" about restoring the Government that works for the people, not the other way around. Listen to the message. John McCain for sure is an S&L thief and a HUGE hippocrite. Saying he's anti-establishment is pure non-sense. A member of Congress for 16 years? Is that your idea of anti-establishment? Maybe you ought to check how he voted on last year's transportation bill. You may be enlightened to find out how much pork that was handed out by both republicans and democrats. It was indeed an under-reported low note for our republic. A vote for John McCain or George Bush will be a vote for more of the same, and therefore, a wasted vote.

I believe Bezdelnik means "loafer" - someone who does nothing.

Pravil'no li ehto, ili net?

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

Pravil'no, konechno. I usually read posts on this forum while on my lunch break, so I'm essentially "loafing" because I'm not working. Besides, I always liked the Kino song by the same name.

No, I definitely work in the private sector. Actually, if you really want to know, I analyze international trade data.

I agree with you that we could do without the IRS, and a flat tax wouldn't be a bad idea. My point was just that a government can't perform basic functions with no tax at all, which is what seemed to be implied by earlier posts. I'm not defending the IRS, per se.

We are going to have to agree to disagree about the rest. I'm not trying to pick a fight over politics, especially since I seem to be in the minority on this forum.

:)

Loafer? That's anti-climactic. I was hoping it was the name of some pre-christian contemperary of Baal or Marduk.
In the minority: I hope you mean in the minority about thinking the FedGov Socialist. Not actualy BEING Socialist. That would be dissapointing.
Have you read "The Third Wave" by the Tofflers?

Shin-Tao:

No, I'm not a socialist!

I haven't read The Third Wave. Toffler is the same guy that wrote Future Shock, right? I haven't read that one either, but it's been on my list for some time. I used to work for a guy in Washington who called himself a "futurist." He was really big on fusion power, nanotechnology, and information warfare. He had his own book, but I can't remember the title. . . .

Do you recommend The Third Wave?

And while we're on the subject, what is "Shin-Tao"?

Earlier, Bezdelnik stated that in sweden, the government owns the "major means of production". I must point out that this is no longer true, and hasn't been for almost 20 years.

Yes, they are the ones that wrote "Future Shock". I would indeed recomend "The Third Wave". It is a very enjoyable work. They also wrote "War and Anti-War" wich I would likewise recomend.
"Shin-Tao" is Shintoism and Taoism, two schools of thought I enjoy dwelling on.

Sorry, I meant that Sweden as it was then is the classic textbook example of European socialism. Much of Europe was socialist to some degree then, before the massive "big bang" privatizations of the 1980s.

Oh, we still are socialistic in our approach to reality. Not communistic though.. many seem to think it's the same thing.
