Future 'new' US army standard issue pistol

Given the military's tendency to beat the crap out of its equipment, and given the fact that they refuse to let soldiers loose with a pistol unless it at least has a quadruple-redundant safety, I'd say that the current pistol that best fits their needs is either the HK USP or USPc. Probably the USP for soldiers and the USPc for aircrewmen. The SIG has an alloy frame, and given the sheer number of rounds the military fires through weapons in training (and generally beats against rocks) I'd say the SIGs would need replacement too soon. I have a hunch the Berettas currently in the military are fast approaching the end of their service lives as well.

Well. I would certainly rather they pick a GLOCK or H&K or RUGER, just anything except S&W or SiG. It's too hard to get good pistols anyway. If the Military is buying up all the SiGs where would us civilians get something to shoot.

Let's see. The one made in Croatia, or the one made in Brazil, or the one made in Bangladesh out of old Japanese sake cans? And maybe in .480 Ruger or .476 Enfield, or .900 Boomenstomper.

Considering that the military considers any pistol far down on the list of useful weapons, and 9mm is not only NATO standard but almost the universal cartridge, I think the M9 will be around a while.

Funny thing is Jim, for all the insignificance of service pistols the military trials of the early and late 1980's sure caused enough mainstream interest. The military's been trying to replace the A-10 Warthog for years, yet almost nobody even knows what one is. Yet everybody heard of the Beretta when it was adopted!

Most refined version of Colt 1911 in a NEW Caliber!

.50 ACP same as .45 ACP with a .50 Bullet a little bit faster at the same 240 grain Weight!

A Cartridge AND gun that you can TRUST YOUR SON'S life upon!

Truth is better than HYPE!

:)

Uhhh, .45 ACP bullet weight is 230 grains.

Like many people I'd rather they revert back to the 1911 (a lot of folks actually IN the military share this viewpoint as well). However, fat chance of that ever happening except among the elite groups. Not only that, but I don't know who could actually make a reliable 1911 for the military nowadays. Certainly not Colt! :(
