Fun discussion regarding James Bond

Earlier, I posted that I thought James Bond should carry a Kimber Solo. I bought one yesterday and my thoughts were confirmed! Here's why:

1. It's light, flat and tiny
2. It's 9mm, that's powerful enough and can be found anywhere
3. It has the panache Bond needs in a gun - think obtainable ASP
4. It's got a good name for a spy gun

I know this discussion is a little ridiculous, but I think it's fun to discuss what fictional characters should carry. It also makes movies more fun to watch when the characters are appropriately armed!

I've attached a couple pics of Solo compared to a PPK!

Ian Fleming would be turning in his grave.....James Bond is only issued British automobiles, firearms, and whatever else is manufactured in the realm of the crown. If the union jack doesn't have it, "Q" will have it custom built.

Bond has never used an English handgun.

Beretta 418 in novels, Beretta 1934 or 1935 in films.
Walther PPK
Walther P99
Walther PPK/S

The Sig P226 was described nicely during the scene on the train in "Spectre", but Bond continued to use the PPK anyway.

The Kimber Solo is too......common for Bond.

Rhorbaugh R9 or Boberg XR9-S would be better choices.

Well, it's the 21st century and the Brits no longer make handguns - so Bond has no choice other than to look elsewhere. The last handgun I heard of the Brits making was the Spitfire copy of the CZ 75B. I don't think even Bond's people can locate one of these!

I thought it was interesting how he described the gun, then told her to try pulling the trigger and handed her the loaded gun (luckily she proceeded to unload it before pulling the trigger). The movie could have ended quickly if she was as clueless about guns as he thought at the time. Obviosly he likes to live dangerously!

Nope.

The appropriate pistol for James Bond is the Walther PPS, which checks off all the reasons listed above. It's also a more reliable pistol, comes from a storied European marque, and falls in line with Bond's preference for Walthers in the films (PPK, P5, P99, and PPK/S).

In fact, it is the pistol he carries in some of the latest non-Fleming novels.

great scot - not being snarky here but have you read any of the Ian Fleming 'Bond' books? Specifically 'Casino Royale' and 'Dr. No'?

FWIW: I think the movies are way more fun than the books.

Bond's preference, in the movies anyway, was established early-on as a .25 Beretta.
Q insisted that Bond use the PPK, instead.

Bond, James Bond also carried a large .45 Colt which was secreted in his old supercharged Bentley Or was it a Bentley?? Anyway, it was wrecked and he never got to use it. ( Moonraker . the book not the movie. ) , I don't think it was ever clarified if it was a 1911 .45 or a revolver .45 . Now isn't this silly, a fictional character, who has no relationship with reality :p. I think I will go talk to Mr. Jack Daniels and watch Monday night battle between two rich men's hobbies.

My goodness!!! Why on Earth would he want to carry anything but that Walther PPK...after all, he shot a Helicopter out of the sky with it in this latest Spectre!! AND while moving at high speed in a boat...

In John Gardner's Icebreaker, Bond used the good 'ole lemon squeezer. An HK P7. No Walther in that novel!

John Gardner gave him quite a few different guns over the years

Colt 1911, Colt Detective Special, FN 1903, Ruger Redhawk, HK VP70, HK P7, ASP S&W, FN Hi-Power, Walther P-38K, SIG/Sauer P6, ASP Hi-Power.

I am probably forgetting a few.

I have read all the books, several times, and enjoyed them all. It seems that Flemming appreciated conceal ability, accuracy, and convenience over power when arming his character! It seems like the Solo would accomplish these objectives, AND provide some power!

Yeah, JB couldn't shoot down that helicopter with a Kimber Solo! I think his PPK must have had a 10mm conversion barrel in it, to pull off that stunt!
