Frog Lube

I originally felt the same way about the price. I was surprised how little it took to clean and season three pistols and an AR once and one pistol and the AR a second time. I hardly put a dent in the jar of paste. I used about 10 drops of liquid to get into places I couldn’t reach with the paste.

I’m still using Hoppies and oiling my bolt guns. The FL smells a lot better is easier on the hands and cleans up much easier. If I become convinced the FL is the shizzs I’ll start using it on them. If not I may give EEZOX a try. This is the first I’ve heard of it. I Gooled it and it sound pretty good. I’d be interested in knowing how it works on copper fouling. It was said the FL does nothing for copper and is one reason I’m not in a big hurry to use it on my bolt guns.

I had/have some copper in one of my Glock barrels. The initial cleaning with Fl didn’t seem to have done anything to it. The boar seemed extra clean but the brass coloring was still there.
 
I believe they use a 2 ton press and squeeze the snot out of them. :eek: :D

My cleaner and lube of choice for years has been Ed’s Red for cleaning and a mix of Mobil 1 and STP. Hoppies #9 to remove copper. When competing with my 1911s I use to get sprayed with “gun oil”. Old-timer introduced me to motor oil and STP. Its slicker then cat poop and stays on the gun. And it don’t get much cheaper. :)
 
In order to give FL an even break I’ve been looking for a copper solvent that would be compatible with FL while using FL as a cleaner and lube for everything but the boar. I wrote the FL people an E-male today (Sunday) telling them that I had purchased FL and inquiring about a water base copper solvent I wanted to try.

Now I really didn’t expect to receive a reply on a Sunday but they responded tonight. Here’s the reply I received.

The way FrogLube works is to 'season' the barrel. After regular use, your barrel will become coated and fouling won't stick. Copper or Lead. Solvents will no longer be required because the fouling will either be dissolved by the chemistry of FrogLube or wipe out with a run thru with a clean patch.

We recommend that you use only FrogLube, ditch your solvents and enjoy the result.

So, I'll be testing it IN the boar of the barrels I shoot jacketed too. AR barrel has received its first boar treatment and second overall seasoning.
 
After the reply I received from FL I decided to see what it is going to do for my pride and joy, my Remington 700 BDL 30 06. I have kept this rifle as clean as a whistle and take very good care of the boar. So I thought! As I thought, the outside of the rifle didn’t show any difference after cleaning with alcohol and applying the FL. The shocker came when I cleaned the boar. The rifle had been shot last Thursday (25 rounds) and the bore had been cleaned with Hoppies # 9 and Remington boar solvent until the patches came out what I call clean (very slight trace light gray on a wet patch nothing on a dry patch) every 5 rounds. Today I scrubbed the boar with a new brush liberally coated with FL. First dry patch came out black as coal. Ran several more patches until they came out dry. Scrubbed again with FL on brush, not so black but not clean. When patch came out completely dry I ran a wet FL patch in and out about five times, came out gray. Ran dry patches through until dry and clean. Boar now looks cleanest I’ve ever seen but I can see, very clean and clearly copper coloring. Very little and I mean just coloring not buildup on the edges of the lands.

We’ll see what happens after I shoot it and give it a second seasoning. I’m not totally convinced because I just haven't uses FL enough to say, “hey this stuff is grate” but I'm getting optimistic.

OK, here's myconclusion after several range sessions. I’ve used it on several different firearms, Glock, Kimber 1911 (my carry gun), AR 15, Sig 522 and my beloved Remington 700 30 06. IT WORKS!. I was super skeptical as it just sounded too good to be true and seemed pricey. It goes a long way does a super job of cleaning and lubricates well. As the e-male I received states, the copper comes out too. Someone told me, and I agree, that because, most rifle bullets have exposed lead at the base you get a lead, copper, lead, copper buildup in the boar. When the lead is broken down the copper layer on top of it is removed at the same time. For whatever reason the copper HAS been removed. I can’t believe how clean my hands are when I’m finished cleaning my guns and it smells grate. I don’t worry about getting it on my clothes either as it washes right out. The cleaning rag is black and filthy after cleaning my AR and Sig 522. A little dish washing liquid, hand wash and the cleaning rag looks like it was never used.

The best copper remover I have ever found is KG 12. Run a nylon brush wetted with KG 12 through the bore 10 times and wait 15 minutes then run a dry patch through. The black goo that comes out was copper fouling. This stuff will dissolve a copper penny but it won't hurt a barrel.

I too am interested in Froglube. I have the kit but haven't tried it yet. From what I have read, I think it is a mixture of PAO type synthetic oil and some kind of wax based thickener with corrosion inhibitors added. The way it works is kind of unique. I also wonder what the implication of "biodegradable" is for long term firearms use like storage.

To test for copper removal get some Sweets 7.62 and after you think the copper is gone run a wet patch of Sweets down the bore and see if it turns blue. Sweets has been around for years. It is not the best copper remover but it is a good test for copper in the bore.
 
From the research I’ve done FrogLube is supposed to be vegetable based. For long term storage the manufacturer recommends putting a layer of past on and not wiping it off. It’s also touted as being water resistant. After cleaning my firearms I wash my hands and I can still feel and smell FL on my hands so I believe it is.

The biodegradable part has me confused because it protects a firearm from the element but is supposed to breakdown if left out in elements. :confused:

Since you have some try it I think you find it does what they claim.

the new BIG THING......Remember Slick 50 and others

Dont believe the hype IMO
 
I was skeptical too. Really skeptical and posted the same thing about burning off in the boar. I can tell you this, it's a lot easier cleaning the boars than it uses to be with Hoppies. It’s less messy and the boars of my rifles are cleaner than they have ever been. Don’t knock it until you try it. I’m glad I gave it a shot. :)
