Friends son Shot in throat with .22

Wow. Glad your friend's son is ok... that wasn't far at all from ruining his trachea.

He going to skip parties in favor of sitting at home and knitting from now on? :D

Yes, glad the boy is ok.

On the other end of the spectrum...I personally know a convict that robbed a dope house. Went back to the same house the very next week, knocked on the front door and when Mr Drug Dealer opened the door, he shot convict in the mouth with a 44mag. Although severely deformed with most of his lower jaw gone, he lived.

Guess that goes back to shot placement, eh.

Wow that's scary shot placement. All the medical people here will know what I'm talking about here. The trachea is on top of the esophagus, then on the side you have the external jugular vein, internal jugular vein, and carotid artery which run on either side of the trachea. So I'd say about a half an inch either direction and either he's breathing out of his neck or there's 1 or more blood vessels the size of your pinky finger are getting cut. Lucky kid. Time to look at a life change.

"He going to skip parties in favor of sitting at home and knitting from now on?"

Are you kidding? How else he's gonna have the babes wanting to mother him? :p

I have mixed feelings. He will either change the crowd that he hangs out with (doubtful) appreciate his family more (probably) or now think that he is invincible (who knows)

He is not a kid that causes trouble or seeks it out and just in the wrong place at the right time. But it will be interesting to see how he takes it in the long run. My guess is the girls will flock over him and who knows what choices he will make from then on.
Hopefully he will look at life a lot closer and use it as something to learn from and not seek out revenge instead.
